I would not give up one bit with a C average. I was once told by an admissions dean for medical school that she was looking for a circus performer. If someone applied to her school with that background and they were not an ax murderer, they were get…
Good thoughts on the diversity being other than racial/ethnicity. They want more people to apply, but does not mean they actually want the new applicant pools to actually matriculate. You know, all that yield protect, etc.
Doesn't Columbia have a rep for placing lots of people into Big Law? I personally would keep working on the LSAT, bank your 170 and look around. With that score, your GPA, and URM, you might just score one of the Top 3. Good Luck.
The issue with digital exams at commercial testing centers is the other testers in the room. I have taken a lot of professional exams that way and you could be sitting next to someone taking the insurance exam, who will be getting up for breaks, lea…
I think I would mention that someone in the family has a military commitment and that is a factor in list of schools you are applying to. I don't think true service to our country ever can hurt you. Being the spouse of a servicemember is very diffic…
Well, this is helpful because I have requested that my undergraduate college send my transcripts into LSAC twice and they have not listed as received. Where does on get the LSAC transcript form in electronic format? My college only accepts electroni…
I really can't shed much light on your specific admissions situation, but congratulations on your hardworrk and success. You will no doubt do very well in whatever you undertake career-wise.
I've got many moons on everybody in this thread, but I am happy to report that the Adcomm people that I have talked to said that if you have a compelling reason why you want to do it, then age is not really a problem. People have been pretty encoura…
No, not too old. I am a relatively older candidate and have talked to some admissions deans informally and nobody that I have talked to said it was not a problem. Don't see why that wouldn't apply to you also.
I think it is a way to juice their number of applicants and also tuition paying students. The law schools would not be pushing for this change if it was going to hurt them.
I think this really hurts low GPA students. If you could beat the odds and get a very hard to attain high LSAT you could really help yourself. I think there are going to be lots of high GRE scores around, so it is not going to be as valuable or as m…
Yes, I agree that it is a rankings thing. My contact said they felt it was going to be easier to get lots of high GRE scores because it is an easier test, so the chase for the high LSAT applicant will be continuing as that will still be an accepted …
I have an MD with a significant career as an academic surgeon. I am being told by people in the know that are in admissions at a law school that it will not really help me to outperform the numbers. A 177 on LSAT would be way better. She said softs…
It also looks like it gives schools the option to forgo any admissions testing.
But, I am wondering if that will come into play only for people who the schools want to recruit and don't want to insult - like say if you have a Nobel Prize in chemist…
Yeah, I agree with the above posters. Accepting the GRE will get Harvard more applicants, for sure. But, where is it written that they will accept even one of these GRE applicants? It could really just be a way to goose yield as HLS slipped a notch.
My guess is that the GRE applicants who were not thinking of law school will not be flooding the pool however. And the reason is the high cost of tuition.
As someone in this category, lots of people in their 40s and on have mortgages, kids to put t…
It is hard to see that if HLS, Columbia, Northwestern take GRE that the Penns, UVAs, NYUs will be able to resist. Perhaps YLS and Stanford will hold out, but I bet everyone from Columbia on down goes GRE.
I was looking at PatBar, which is about $600 but could not tell what their pass rate was. I am going to get it out of the way before I apply. I think it can be a tricky course so $2000 is not too much as it is an investment that would be worth it to…
I have not sat for the patent bar yet. Just getting going on it. Everything I am reading says to take a prep course and get a study buddy. I am a couple of years away from 1L so I thought I would get it out of the way now. What is your engineering d…
As a trauma surgeon and former Army physician (civilian) who has taken care of many service members with brain injury manifesting as PTSD/ADHD.... these are serious and debilitating injuries that can confer significant disability. Just because they …
