Editing by Award-Winning Writers

Our writing experts have graduated from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, published a cover story in the New York Times Magazine, won a Literature Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, and authored critically acclaimed novels. But we don’t impose our vision on your essays: we help your work become the best version of itself.

You truly brought out the best writer in me, and your guidance helped me get into a school that was a far-fetched dream. For that, I’m eternally grateful.

Your Voice. Our Expertise.

It’s all about authenticity. Admissions officers don’t want to see the perfectly polished prose of a professional writer. They want a sample of what makes you unique. How do we make your essay more you?

Guided Brainstorming

1 We’ll use a mix of prompts that we’ve developed over time and questions designed just for you to generate ideas. Afterward, we’ll help you identify the most promising topics.

Creative Collaboration

2 We’ll never tell you what to write or how to write it, but we’ll help you excavate vivid details and arrange them into a compelling arc.

Revision and Re-envisioning

3 All writing is rewriting. We’ll point out where your story sags and where it should zip. Then we’ll help you fix it.

Polishing and Proofreading

4 After your essay’s structure snaps into place, we’ll do a few rounds of close edits to make the important sentences sing. At the end, we’ll do a triple proofread: yours, ours, and a third party with whom we contract.

An Essay that Screams Your Name

5 Our goal is to leave you with an essay that’s both well-written and unimpeachably your own.

They Really Like Us 😊

Take a look at these students’ unsolicited responses to 7Sage editing:

I am officially committed to [a top school]! I could say this is a dream come true, but honestly I never even dreamed that I would be able to go here. You were such an enormous help in making that happen, and I can’t thank you enough.

I also wanted to thank you for making me a better writer. Going through the revision process with you offered me a more thorough look at producing great work than probably any other writing exercise I’ve ever done. You’re truly incredible at what you do!”

Courtney

I just want to say thank you again for everything. This process has gone better than I could have hoped for, and I am absolutely over the moon about attending [a top school]. Thank you so much for not only helping me with my apps but being a constant sounding board and source of good advice. I am so appreciative and happy to have worked with / gotten to know you.

Mark

This is excellent and far exceeds my expectations. Thank you for your patience and fidelity…Also, on a personal note, I have thoroughly enjoyed this process.

Bryan

I will be tapping you again for your services in the next year or two. I don’t think I can trust anyone else.

William

You helped me make the best application possible. Thank you.

George

Thank you for your editorial letters!!! They were eye-opening. Although I thought my essay was finished, I felt as though something was missing, and you pointed out exactly what it was.

Joshua

Thanks so much for your help. You are awesome. I am definitely going to endorse and recommend you to my friends.

Harry

I appreciate all the time and effort you’ve put into editing my essays. Not only have you made my overall application so much stronger, but I feel like I’ve learned a lot about writing by working with you. Thanks so much for everything.

M.S.

Note: some of this feedback was in response to our help on graduate essays, but it's all real.😃

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after I purchase?

We'll send you a welcome email asking you how you'd like to spend your time. When you reply, we'll match you with the consultant who can best meet your needs. This matching process is not on the clock. All of your consultant's work time, however, is on the clock, including the time he or she spends reading your initial email.

The way you use the rest of your time is up to you. You can set up calls with your consultant or request feedback via email. After each round of feedback or advice, your consultant will let you know how much time you have left.

In most cases, you'll spend your entire hour with the same consultant, even if you don't use the whole hour at once, but you can request to switch at any time.

If I use my time for editing, how much feedback will I get?

It typically takes us between forty-five minutes and an hour to provide thorough written feedback on a full draft of an essay. Shorter documents don't always take us less time, and longer documents don't always take more time: it also depends on the content. If we don't use all of the time you purchase, you'll get to use your leftover time for follow-up questions, advice, or more editing.

In some cases, we may decide that a conversation on the phone would be more productive than a long written critique. In other cases, we may send you a series of short feedback letters on progressive drafts instead of a single long feedback letter on one draft. Working by the hour lets us take a flexible approach.

No matter how we end up delivering our feedback, we guarantee that you'll get at least one big-picture critique, sentence-level polish, or substantial conversation about your essay, or else a series of helpful suggestions over the course of several emails or conversations, as long as your essay is 1,200 words or fewer.

If you send us something longer than 1,200 words, or if you ask us to look at more than one document, we can't guarantee that we'll be able to perform a full round of written feedback in an hour, although we'll try our best.

What's the difference between One Hour and Five Hours?

There is no difference between our five-hour and our one-hour service except that five hours just gives you more time (and five bonus proofreads instead of one).

How many hours should I buy?

You can always start with one and add more as you need them. Please note, though, that you'll only get five hours for the price of four if you purchase them as a bundle.

Do my hours expire?

Your hours are valid for a year after your last admissions purchase.

Is there a refund policy?

We have a qualified 14-day refund policy. If you change your mind, let us know within 14 days of payment to get a full refund less $250 per hour of our consultants' work time.
