I scatter the puzzle across the table, flipping each piece upside down until vibrant images fade to muted cardboard. My fingers trace jagged edges and unexpected curves, guided by touch and instinct alone. With each connection, a quiet contentment settles in—a reminder that clarity doesn’t always come from what’s visible. In difficult situations or while supporting others facing adversity, I’ve learned that growth lies in embracing uncertainty. Even in simple tasks, like detangling yarn for my local thrift shop, I find satisfaction in transforming tangled knots into something useful. Unraveling these challenges, I’ve learned to trust the process, even when outcomes remain unclear.

It’s this mindset that draws me to the Duke Law School. Durham's unique community blends intellectual rigor with a collaborative culture—a stimulating  environment for me to continue growing my passion for innovations within the healthcare and bio-pharmaceutical sectors. I’m driven to identify incisive new solutions from a legal lens; at Duke Law, I’m excited to engage with diverse perspectives on how to confront ambiguity, untangle complex regulations, and find clarity in ever-evolving fields. At the heart of my passion for Duke is its interdisciplinary nature: the perfect complement to my strong belief that the most impactful innovations come from unconventional combinations of existing fields—an approach that has guided my personal and professional journey so far.

Through my work in clinical settings, I’ve witnessed how technology has transformed patient quality of life, but I’ve also seen how well-meaning inventions lack the foresight required for sustainable implementation. I hope to guide the field by leveraging my grant-writing experience from Tuft’s Health-Tech towards Duke’s Start-Up Ventures Clinic, where I can mentor ambitious students in transforming their visions into reality. I’m also eager to participate in the Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition and serve as a member of the Trial Advocacy Society, as I hope to one day champion policies that improve public health outcomes in regulatory frameworks.

My enthusiasm for Duke expands beyond its myriad professional development opportunities. After a lifetime as a competitive rhythmic gymnast, I sought new artistic expressions during undergrad. There, I auditioned for Tuft’s Latin Dance Troupe, which introduced me to a vibrant community and fresh connections to dance and culture. I want to similarly immerse myself in Durhams's communities, sharing my love for dancing by joining Duke Sabrosura or traversing new paths via the RDC and Bull City Race Marathons or strolling through Duke Gardens. These experiences have revealed the value of surrounding myself with individuals who share a deep commitment to pushing their limits mentally, physically, and creatively. I believe a balanced life fosters deeper engagement in every aspect, leading to clearer thinking and greater resilience when tackling challenges. For me, moments of discomfort in dance or running connect directly with the law’s intellectual challenges—threading together stronger mindsets, more resonant attuned resources, and more connected communities. At Duke, I know this balance will sharpen my professional ambitions while I continue exploring new dimensions of myself—whether I’m pushing my limits in the classroom or cheering on the Devils at Wade Stadium.

As I consider where to continue weaving my path, Duke calls to me as the place where my academic curiosities, personal passions, and professional ambitions can intertwine purposefully. I thrive on learning from those around me and hope to engage in a balanced experience that nurtures every strand of my yarn-detangling, never-stop-learning approach to solving complex challenges. I know there’s nowhere I’d rather be than in the Duke Law’s dynamic community.

7Sage Admissions Committee feedback
This successful essay is about as strong as you can make a Why X without a personal connection or visit to the school. The material is from the school’s website, but there’s a lot of specificity and enthusiasm. Most importantly, we learn a lot about the applicant (don’t underestimate the importance of that Latin Dance angle — showing how you’d fit into a school’s social life is key)
