Busy Week Ahead!
With the coldest part of the year on the horizon and law school admissions officers wondering why they just can’t review applications from the comfort of their homes every day

we now reach the busiest wave season of the year.
Lawschooldata’s “Recent Decisions” page has a very helpful chart that illustrates what we’re likely going to see this week.
Per information self-reported from lawschooldata users last year, here is the general cadence of decisions issued throughout the 2024‒2025 admissions cycle:

The last week of January / first week of February really is the perfect storm for decisions:
- The national pool has established itself, so schools have a clear sense of appropriate targets for class size and medians.
- We’re far enough past the holidays so admissions committees have fully shaken off the post-vacation rust and are back up to speed.
- And we’re not too far away from March anymore … and March is when admitted student visit programs happen … but you can’t have admitted students visit if you don’t have “admitted students” nor if you haven’t given them enough time to make travel plans.
And as pre-tremors to the big week, this past week has seen a lot of action per the Recent Decisions page on lsd.law:

Up and down the rankings and from coast to coast, everyone is getting in on the action!
So while admissions officers continue to crank out the decisions

let’s check out the other headlines from around the world of law school admissions.
Current Volumes Summary
Well, it’s a good thing that admissions officers are issuing decisions because the onslaught of applications simply isn’t slowing down per our weekly check on LSAC’s Current Volume Summaries report:

Last week, we were +17.9% in applicants and +19.7% in applications. But next week’s check promises to be on the front edge of an interesting period. The results of the January LSAT come back on the 28th. Given the high number of January test takers combined with the reality that the January LSAT is the last big test of the admissions year, it’s possible that we’ll see a number of folks fire off last-minute applications in true “shoot your shot” mode.
May those shots be more akin to this

than this

National LSAT Numbers
And while the January score release is pending, this week’s check of LSAC’s LSAT Registrants and Test Taker Volumes report is really more about the February test:

Two weeks to go until the February LSAT, registration numbers declined by 3% in the past week. Even if registration numbers go down by 10% in each of the next two weeks (which would be totally normal!), that would leave us in the ballpark of 14,000 registrations. That would represent a 20‒25% increase over last year. Our team will keep tracking this closely!

National Recruitment Events
We have to appreciate this segment one more time before it goes into hibernation until Labor Day!
It will be a lively week for those living somewhere in the vicinity of the Flori-gi-bama region. If that term doesn’t catch on, maybe we can all agree on the Skynyrd Meridian.
