Cather influenced by Turgenev
Turgenev's style involved showing emotions through details about characters' behavior and appearance. Writers are like psychologists. But, don't include unnecessary detail.

The "thing not named" is the feeling created by the text by not specifically named. Cather and Turgenev focused on fusing the physical world and actions with emotional reality, on establishing a mood.

We have no reason to think Author A believes Cather embraced the conventions of the realistic novel. We don’t know from Passage A’s description of Cather’s work whether she used conventions of realistic novels. Passage A doesn’t discuss the narrative vs. novel distinction.

This is the best answer, since it’s the only answer focused on Cather’s style, which is what Passage A describes. We have some evidence from P2 of Passage A that Author A thinks Cather’s goal of representing the “thing not named” influenced her decision to focus on “selection and simplification.” This arguably contributes to her “bold, simple, and stylized” writing.
