Hi there! So reading slower will actually be to your advantage. For reference, I take about 4 minutes per passage. Since finding my method, I never run out of time.
At the end of reading each paragraph, I give a one sentence summary to myself of what it was about, what the purpose of the passage was (providing evidence, stating a claim, etc) and then lastly seeing if I notate any author tone. At the end of the passage, I go through in my head once more each paragraphs’ summaries (takes about 20 seconds). With this, I soar through the questions with confidence and rarely have to refer back to the passage, and if I do, it’s a very fast skim.
I also recommend researching different key words that relate to different tone options that typically come up on questions. This helped me tremendously with understanding how to properly infer the author’s tone and therefore understand overall passages better.
