The passage argues that experimental fish are better than traditional fish at surviving.
D is an assumption that there is a necessary level of boldness for survival. It, however, doesn't address the possibility that both types of fish meet this bar of boldness, in which case D isn't required by the argument.
C, on the other hand, is an assumption that some traditional fish die from a lack of boldness. This assumption links the support (experimental fish are bolder) and the conclusion (experimental fish are better at surviving).
Most simply, B is not the correct answer because of its assumption that a spring thaw will always happen. Of course, this is a reasonable assumption. However, there is no comparable assumption in the stimulus. E also has the same flaw in its argument but without the added assumption. While this becomes a frustrating issue of splitting hairs, it perfectly exemplifies why "satisficing" can hurt you in the LSATs.
Gay men must not only be attractive to men, but they must have a nice personality, or else they will not find a long-term partner. Yet many gay comedians, who only focus on their personalities, are able to find long-term partners.
D) Some gay comedians are not prevented from being attractive to men
E) Becoming a comedian makes you attractive to men
