Hey y'all. Just to clarify as a biology major. It's not that bacteria ARE biomarkers or create them, it's that bacteria are LIVING ORGANISMS and biomarkers indicate the PRESENCE of a living organism as said in the passage. Hope this helps :)

Okay i thought D was incorrect because I thought it would be unreasonable to assume that everyone immediately got the new car features 10 years ago. Like in the real world, if a new car is released, you don't see everyone driving that new car, people hold onto their cars for a while. before they buy a new one. Did anyone else make the same mistake?

Okay so, resolve the discrepancy means that there are two phenomena that don't make sense in contrast to each other.

The question asks which one of the following DOES NOT resolve the discrepancy.

D does not resolve the discrepancy because a placebo on the 12 year study has NOTHING to do with the fact that in one study beta carotene intake promoted health and in the other it had no effect. Hence, it's the correct answer.

E on the other hand, does resolve the discrepancy BUT we have to make some assumptions. It doesn't give the best reasoning for us to be like "oh yeah that's why the studies findings dont align with each other" but it's good enough that we can make some assumptions and be like "oh yeah the smoking probably contributed to the findings of people's health"

I hope that helps!

P.S. I'm writing this comment before i watched the video so i'm sorry if i just restated what the video says lol

i think the premise is a just a statement which is intended to support the conclusion. premise supports conclusion.
