I ruled out AC B because I thought it implied the whole phenomenon is due to experiencing trauma. I read it like "As a result of experiencing a traumatic event, producing more cortisol irt stress prevents someone from developing PTSD." ... I thought it was implying that the elevated cortisol levels work in response to stress to prevent the disorder from developing.
