Hello!

I am wondering if there are standard document titles that should be used when attaching files to applications.

For example, when attaching the PS to an application would something like "first initial last name document title" work? ex: (JSmith Personal Statement). Or, is the personal information not necessary, and the title of the document could just be "Personal Statement" (with the description being the same)?

Thanks!

@ Thank you! You wrote that it would seem odd if the GPA on the resume doesn't match the CAS report. My current GPA listed on my resume is my university's GPA calculation, which matches my transcript GPA but is .01 lower than my LSAC calculated Degree Summary GPA and .05 lower than my LSAC calculated Cumulative GPA. Would your recommendation be to leave GPA off of the resume then?

LSAC GPA

Multipart question here:

-Does anyone know if, when looking at the Academic Summary Report, LSAC relies on the Degree Summary GPA or the Cumulative GPA? (My cumulative GPA is .05 higher due to study abroad grades).

-My UGPA and LSAC GPA differ by .01 (LSAC GPA being lower). I think this is because of slight differences in how A-'s are weighted by LSAC and my undergraduate school (3.67 vs 3.7). Is this .01 going to make a difference?

-Am I correct in assuming that LSAC sees the actual transcript from the schools you have attended and not just the Academic Summary Report? In other words, will they see your UGPA? I am wondering if it will look strange to have one GPA on my résumé and another on the Academic Summary Report. [and more generally, I am curious as to whether they will see course titles]

Thanks!

Law School Decisions

Does anyone know if law schools ever do not get back to you with a decision at all, or if you will definitely hear back from each school with one decision or another? Thanks!

Professional and Academic Letters of Rec

Hello! I graduated from college in May of 2017 and will be applying to law school this coming fall.

Right now I have one academic and one professional recommendation secured. However, in reviewing the requirements for the schools I plan to apply to, I see some schools strongly prefer two academic references unless one has been out of school and working "for some time" or a "significant amount of time" or "several years". I don't find these requirements to be super clear, and am wondering if anyone has any insight as to when one academic and one professional letter is appropriate. What do schools typically consider as "some time"?

I am considering asking for a second academic letter but am not sure if that is necessary given that when I am applying I will have been in the workforce for 2.5 years.

Thanks!

.8 and .9 Margins

Hello!

For schools that do not specify that they would like 1.0 margins all around, and just specify a font size and page limit for the PS and résumé, are .8 or .9 margins generally ok?

Thanks!

LOCI

Hi all. I applied to a school during the first week of September and received a wait list notice today. I'm wondering if I should send a letter of continued interest ASAP, or wait until later on given it is so early in the cycle. Or, if I should do both, one now and another later on if I have not heard anything? Thanks!

Transcript Requirement Question

I have a question regarding transcripts that I am hoping to get some clarity on. I emailed LSAC about this but wanted to see if others have had a similar experience.

During one of my undergraduate semesters, I attended a study abroad program through the School for International Training (SIT). While I was abroad in South America for the semester, all components of the program were organized by SIT, a US based program with organized, semester long study abroad programs all over the world.

I received transfer credits for the 5 courses I took while studying abroad, and while the course titles and grades I received for the courses appear on my official undergraduate transcript (for the school from which I received my Bachelors degree), the grades were not included in my undergraduate GPA.

Does anyone know if it is necessary to request a formal transcript from SIT for this semester, or if the fact that these 5 courses do appear on my official undergraduate transcript would be sufficient?

Some of the information I read on the LSAC website led me to believe it was not necessary to ask SIT for a transcript, but I wanted to check as I did not read anything that described my exact study abroad situation. I also did not see a section for adding an institution such as SIT, as it does not seem to fall under any of the existing categories. I was also not entirely sure if you could request a transcript from an institution if the institution is not listed in CAS.

Thanks!

Resume Organization Question?

Quick resume question: I am 3 years out of college, so I currently have my Experience section listed first, but I also had multiple internships while I was in college. As a result, I was planning to organize my resume sections as follows : [Post-Graduate Experience, Education, Undergraduate Experience, Undergraduate Leadership and Activities, Awards, and Skills].

I am wondering what others think of this organization strategy, or if it would be better to condense my experience and undergraduate experience in to one section: [Experience, Education, Undergraduate Leadership and Activities, Awards, and Skills?]

The latter felt strange to me, to have all experience, including internships I held during college, listed prior to my education section (and as a result pushing my education section to the second page of my resume), but would love input.

Kira Interviews

For those who have done them, do you remember if you were able to do your unlimited practice interviews and come back to do the actual recorded interview later on (a few days later), or if you are only able to conduct the practice interviews immediately before you begin the actual interview?

Thanks!

@.steelman thank you!

I just spoke with my undergraduate institution who let me know that in addition to the noise complaint, the warning was also the result of another violation for possession/consumption of alcohol under 21, as there was alcoholpresent in the room where the noise complaint was called.

However, the school also told me that warnings are expunged from conduct records, and that as a result these violations do not appear on my record like I thought, and if asked the schoolwould indicate nothing exists on my conduct record as this incident has since been deleted.

Apart from schools that specifically ask for expunged warnings, is it best to err on the side of disclosure for incidents that do not exist on record too?

Character and Fitness Question

Hello!

During my freshman year I received a noise complaint. I was written up and received a formal warning that exists on my academic record.

Of course, for schools with C + F questions that specifically ask if you have received any warnings from a college, I plan to disclose this and submit an addendum. My plan was to just err on the side of disclosure and do the same for all schools, but I am wondering what others think.

A number of schools ask specifically "“Have you ever been subject to any disciplinary action" but do not mention warnings explicitly. Because this exists on my academic record, I was going to answer "yes" in these scenarios too, just to be safe, though I am not sure warnings are considered being subject to disciplinary action and if doing so would be unnecessary.

Would love to hear the thoughts of others.

Thanks!

Post-Waitlist LOR

Does anyone know how to go about sending a school an additional LOR after being wait listed, if the school only accepts 2 LOR's via LSAC and you sent two with your original application?

Thanks!

1 Page Résumé Requirements

Hi all,

While the majority of the schools I will be applying to this fall allow a résumé between 1-3 pages, or have no limit at all, there are a few which have a strict 1 page, 12 pt font requirement. Any tips or suggestions on how to pare down the finalized 2 page résumé I have in to a 1page one for those few schools? I would appreciate any input on what should be cut and what should be highlighted with such limited space.

Thanks!
