I realized that the verb "emerged" was tripping me up on AC E, but then realized with the contrapositive logic, it filled in the logical gap I was experiencing when wondering how plant C could emerge through endosymbiosis. With the contrapositive present, it makes sense to me that plant C was formed through endosymbiosis because without it, plant C would not exist.
