How much room is there in the test booklet? Does the test look just like the PTs? No scratch paper just seems like another way to make this exam more painful than it already is.

I am not applying to U of H right now. South Texas has Spring enrollment and that's what I'm working on now.
I've been working on it for months. It's already been edited. It's an "overcoming adversity statement" which I really did not want to do in the beginning but whatevs. Two people have shredded it due to wanting to skirt around a disability I have.... One of them has "edited" out most of the statements that state the disability... So it is no longer an over coming anything statement....I rescue odd critters who are sick and no one wants then get them healthy and give them a forever home.... I am super passionate about it and it is a big part of my "personality"..... Ideas? encouragement? screaming rants at me for letting anyone look at the paper after it had been professionally edited? Did I mention the application is due Oct 1st and I'm taking the LSAT on the 3rd.... BTW Only 1 of the two people is even slightly qualified to give any advice.
~Frustrated in Texas
Civil Rights/Constitutional law. I want to eradicate the racial disparities that pollute our criminal justice system. I plan on handling criminal defense of indigent clients for my heart, and wills and probate for my pocket book.
@ My school implemented a new system last year. It deals with a class that meets once a week (not graded and doesn't have any additional assignments) and it teaches us how to outline, when to study, how to study for essay vs. multiple choice exams and etc. If anyone knows, please share! This is the first I've heard of such a program. It feels like a free weekly tutoring session.
I know the schools I am applying to do not have a course like this, but I sure wish they did. Like you are finding out, law school is a whole new ball game when compared to undergrad work and learning...how... to study is so important! I have teenagers and I am pushing them all into a dual credit class that takes the place of our Psych 3000, which teaches you how you learn and how to study in the college setting. It's called something like Psych for Success and is required in your first semester at the Jr. colleges in my area. Don't be too irritated that you have to sit in study hall like a kid; get the most you can out of it. It can only help.
Congrats!!

Brrrrrr..... *waves* from SE Texas.
I use them and no melting yet. I've left my backpack in my car where, in the summer, the temp can get up to 150 or so pretty quickly. I'm guessing old or maybe exposed to moisture....
@ I took 4 days off last week, but I haven't been able to get back on the groove I was on before taking the break.
Change something.. maybe rearrange your desk... heck maybe move your desk... buy some marshmellowy cereal you loved as a kid and add eating a bowl to your things to do before you study. Your other groove led to burnout. Don't fret about what you cannot get back. Start a new groove. Best of Luck!!!! ;D
It is a sad state of affairs when it comes to Public Defenders... Harris County, the largest county in Texas by population (third most populated in the country), only has a fledgling Public Defenders office and Galveston County still has none....

@.hopkins not advised to get LOR's from anyone who does not know you well
Not advised doesn't mean can't be done and done well in a pinch. I see your point, though. ^.^ Lol. I got a stellar recommendation from a professor I constantly irritated, so don't listen to me ;)
I write everything in pencil, notes for school, messages to myself...everything...I use the
Black Ticonderogas. I tried around school supply season to go with cutesy decorated pencils and just hated everything about them... +1 for Black Ticonderogas.
@ I would love to take a week off, but I'm writing in Oct
All the more reason to get in a good break now. You need time to recover and refocus. Sleep for a day or three and get back at it. If you don't take care of your mental health you'll be a basket case for the exam in October. I'm testing in October as well and the pressure is overwhelming. We'll get through it!!!! Now get in some days of rest AND don't beat yourself up all day about what you "should" be doing. You need rest.
I'd ask the grad student but (if allowed) submit a third letter from a professor. It really is about quality.... but my worry would be that being a grad student yourself a letter from another grad student might just come across as a friend who wrote you a LoR.
Edit: Something else you can do is get your CV all nice and pretty and ask your friend to introduce you to his department head (or go to your own) and ask them for a LoR for law school.
Still recovering from my last burnout.... I know the moment my brain broke. It was in that on campus class I was (emphasis on was) taking when I heard the professor say "Don't read the reading comprehension passages." My brain *clicked*..There may have been a boy-yo-yoing sound and steam as well. I hated law school and the frackin LSAT. I had hypersomnia for 4 days (I was only awake about 4 hours a day) and I did not care about the test. Which turned out to be a good thing... I have found most of the time I'd take a day off so as not to burnout but I'd fret all day about how I should be studying not binge watching Sons of Anarchy (my new guilty pleasure :) ).... This last round of burnout my body forced me to take down time. I did not care about the mounds of LSAT prep and finishing my upcoming application. I feel better now...for the most part. I've scheduled a campus tour and class sit-in for this week so I can stay engaged yet still get away from this desk. Best of luck to you all. Burnout is real and can be VERY serious.
I was so happy to see this post. I have been prepping since May and often have REALLY bad days... On top of the Oct 3rd test I have an application due Oct. 1st.... I am stressed out and depressed and my husband says that others in my situation are feeling the same way. It is hard for me to come out of my own troubles and understand this entire process is time consuming, difficult and stressful for everyone to some degree. Even bigger than that: It is designed to be that way. I wish you the best and agree that ending the day positively is a great tip to getting through this.
*cheers*
Thank you so much. That is exactly what I was asking. My PS is super strong and says as much about my illness as I'd like to disclose.
Ok...I am talking to myself now but maybe someone will come along and help with my issue. Maybe, instead of a Disability Statement I can use my disability in a Diversity Statement....I do not show any outward signs of being disabled and have by far overcome the learning issues associated with my...diagnosis...Hmmmm *feverishly goes to web search*
I do not have any legal stuff to disclose in Character and Fitness... Not even a speeding ticket....I look at it now and I may need to go ahead and write the Disability Addenda since two required documents will lean heavily on my disability.....
No, I can't move from my area so I am limited to South Texas, U of H, and TSU. I had a drastic medical diagnosis and I left (without dropping) an entire semester like 10 years ago in community college. Actually, I think I was put on academic suspicion (I am waiting on a call back from them. It was so long ago) but appealed (with doctors transcripts) and won my appeal. I wrote my Personal Statement in the Overcoming Adversity genre and it refers to my diagnosis in part but I do not plan on including a separate disability statement as I do NOT want my disability considered in my application process. I am not seeking accommodations for the LSAT.
I have been placed on academic probation (which relates back to medical issues) and therefore I have to write a statement. My question is (or rather idea) is that this statement should describe any affected periods in my transcripts and does not have to be creative like the personal statement... Is this the correct way to approach this character and fitness addendum?
This is so old, but IMO it's one of top five web animations...ever.
Part of the RC curriculum is "don't read the stimulus." I know much of what we learn from LSAT Prep is a bit counterintuitive, but scanning and then searching out each answer is just....bad advice.
Last night I read something cute about LSAT prepers: "Studying for the LSAT becomes a weird hobby." So true....
Listening to the clueless professor was like nails on chalkboard for three hours.... He had to work the LG backwards and refused to let ANYONE talk/help due to "time constraints". I'm glad I got a huge discount because I graduated for a sister school.
The PS books are great for banging your head against when information....just....won't....stick....
I have always been one of those people who studies from as many sources as possible to get the best grasp of a topic.....Before joining here I had a small intro book and 2 Bibles w/workbooks. Then I joined here and have had much success. Here is what I did wrong:
I decided to take an in-person course taught at a local established University. It started Aug 24th and was twice a week. Manageable.? Right? Oh no, but wait....
1) The instructor has never taught an LSAT prep class, despite having his JD, Ph.D and being a philosophy professor. The curriculum was established so you'd think he'd catch up quickly....:? You'd be wrong...
2) With the class you get a book from the University Press.... A clueless instructor + a book that uses all different terminology = recipe for disaster.
3) Their method was SO ridiculously complicated.
Long story short: I quickly got confused. Confusion leads to depression. Depression leads to burnout....Which brings us to today.
I am not going back to that class and, after a few days break I have been happily studying on 7sage all day. :)
Love this course/community. Keep up the AWESOME work!!!!!!!
If you have the proctor on your phone, right under where you select 4 or 5 sections it will say "change voice".
Bruce's 5 minute warning makes me jump. :{
Cute ^.^

I am new to 7Sage and just this morning downloaded the proctor app to my phone. I was working through my first timed section with the batman voice. I was so focused that the five minute warning startled me. Yikes!! It didn't help that I was alone in a quiet room. Oh the joys of interactive study aids!
I feeling a bit beat down with prep today, and I wanted to tap into y'all's (I'm in Texas. That is a word.) brains. If you weren't a gluten for self sacrifice and never even heard of the LSAT what would you do? Or better yet, what if you studied so hard for the LSAT that your grey matter ozzed out of your ear holes....then what?
I am thinking synchronized swimming instructor....Or maybe a screenwriter for SyFy.
*raises hand* Testing in a month so....what else am I going to do.
Do you plan on getting a full scholarship with COL covered somewhere or working for Legal Aid etc. to get loan forgiveness after 10 years? Just curious about the economics of your plan; such things are possible but require strategy and sacrifice.
I am disabled, so lone forgiveness is highly likely. I do not plan on getting private loans for law school. My law school journey will be paid out of pocket (other than scholarships, of course). I plan on opening my own practice that does criminal defense, private investigation, and mediation (I am already a PI and a General Mediator). Galveston County does not even have a public defender office and I personally know someone who had a private attorney appointed in Harris county (they now have a fledgling PD office) and received NO representation because the private attorney asked for money the person did not have...It was disgusting.
I was kinda joking about the wills and probate, but honestly of all the attorneys I know, the best paid of them all does estate law. I am at a bit of advantage because I will be able to handle (with a staff of course) all of my own investigations as well as facilitate court ordered mediation session. I hope that answers your question:)
