It seems to me as if D is the correct answer, the key question is "what caused the dolphin to not run away after the shield was placed?" I would assume that the shield protected, and that without the shield, the electric field caused some sort of discomfort. The electric shield could have then blocked the field from causing this discomfort to the dolphin by protecting the area of the dolphin that was causing the discomfort when in contact with the electric field. Then I asked myself, "what did the shield protect?", the answer would be the organs in the dolphin’s snout, hence I could conclude that the electric field caused some discomfort in the dolphin's snout, leading to choice D. I see how answer choice B works, but it is not clear to me why D is wrong. D also seems more intuitive….
