Pre-Admission Summer Trial Program at GMU

George Mason offered me an invitation to participate in the Pre-Admission Summer Trial (PAST) program that selects 10-15 students to complete 2-week intensive program consisting of reviewing a casebook, writing assignments, and completing a final exam. GM is the only school I am applying, so I am definitely excited to be selected. However, only a small percentage of students completing the PAST Program get offered admission and the remaining students are put on the top of the wait list.

I will receive the course material a week before the program starts, but I want to maximize my time until then to prepare. Currently, I am reading "Getting to Maybe" which covers how to properly attack law school exams. Does anybody have any other suggestions on materials I can prep with? Thanks!

I was in the exact situation you are in. I graduated from college 5 years ago. During my senior year, I applied for an internship in D.C. at a law firm, which turned into a full-time job as a paralegal after graduation. I figured that getting some legal experience would be beneficial. After working a couple years at the firm, my mindset was to get into any law school. I did not perform well on the LSAT, and the only offers I had were T-3 schools. I put off law school for a couple years and transitioned into a new job at a trade organization.

I can't express enough how fortunate I am that I didn't rush going to school. I absolutely love my job, and they are paying for me to go to law school. Looking back, if had rushed this decision, I would have paid a ton of money to go to a school I wasn't excited about. If you would have told me back in my senior year that I would be pushing 30 when I go to school, I would have laughed and dismissed that thought. However, I have gained valued experience and matured from the time I graduated until now. I was able to save money for a down payment on a townhouse and also recently got engaged.

Everybody has different experiences, and perhaps luck played a part in landing my current job. But looking back five years ago, I remember I was dead set on going to law school and was upset that my life was not going according to plan. I am incredibly happy with my decision to attend law school now that I am truly ready.

Back to Basics Before PTing

I've read in various discussions about getting back to the basics, or mastering the fundamentals, before PTing. Can somebody please elaborate what this meant for them during this process? For instance, does this entail mastering all the drills and going -0 after BRing the practice sets? I took the LSAT this past February after completing the curriculum and did not perform well. I am planning on taking the test in October or December and want to make sure I am doing everything correctly this time around. I thoroughly went through the curriculum for 4 months, but only left myself 2 months for practice tests which felt rushed. Thanks for any advice!

I chose answer choice (A). I concluded that ferrous material causes an increase in the population of algae (diatoms). I assumed that if the diatom population remained unchanged, then that weakens effect that they did not increase. (C --> no E).

I understand why answer choice (D) is correct, but could somebody further explain why (A) is wrong? Thanks!

Reading Comp. Inferences

Has anybody picked up on trends for reading comprehension inferences for MSS questions? Ideally I want to make a chart that lists the "most common types of inferences" for RC, similar to the "most common types of flaws" for LR.

I took a full-length course with Powerscore last year. In all honestly, I wish I saved my money and started with 7sage. What I love the most about this course is that all the questions are explained online, and JY makes studying fun. If there is a particular question or area that you are struggling with, you can re-watch the videos own your own time until you grasp the logic. I also agree with everything @ said.

@ @ @ @ Thank you all for the responses! Very helpful! I watched the @ strengthen/weaken webinar over the weekend which was awesome. I reviewed the strengthening questions that JY answered using these recommendations, and the correct answers made a lot more sense. Thanks again guys!

Assumptions in Strengthening Questions

I am having some difficulty on strengthening questions that do not use causal reasoning. I am getting nearly all the weakening questions right because I am in the mindset of contradicting the assumptions made in the argument. However, for strengthening questions, should I look for an answer choice that strengthens the underlying assumption? Alternatively, will an answer choice that only states the assumption strengthen the argument?

Oh no. I didn't say that. Gold/Silver game, together with recording activities game was in section 5. While the the French/Russian was in section 3.

So it's sure in my case the Gold/Silver game was the real section?

Gold/Silver is definitely real. I only had 1 LG section and this game was on it.

Did anybody think the Hindu/Roman reading comp passage was overly difficult? I had one of WTF moments after reading about the Hindu stuff. I was hoping that was experimental. Sigh.

When you are reading, let main points lead the way, keep an eye out for perspectives, and read for macro understanding. If I get stuck on a difficult passage, I push through by keeping these points in mind and reading at the same speed as an easy passage.
