I was also quite confused at first, but here's my shot at an explanation:

D says, in essence: algae are the reasons that pipes would clog. This isn't supported by the stimulus, though. The stimulus tells us: 1) zebra muscles eat algae, 2) bags of zebra muscles can "significantly improve water quality, even removing some hazardous waste". They say that the algae is the hazardous waste the zebra muscles We are given no facts in the stimulus about how algae interact with the intake pipes, therefore AC D, which gives us more information about how algae can clog pipes if not filtered by zebra muscles, is new information and therefore can't be the answer in a MSS question. This is why D is unsupported by the stimulus and can't be the answer.

At this point, if you, like me, have ruled out ACs A,B, and C, pick E and move on. if you want confirmation, for why E is right:

E says, in essence: the hazardous waste will remain in the muscles AND therefore the muscles become hazardous waste themselves, OR the hazardous waste will be transformed by the muscles and they won't become hazardous waste themselves. This is supported by the stimulus because the stimulus states zebra muscles remove "some hazardous waste" and "have some redeeming qualities".

Remember, in a MSS question, the stimulus must contain facts that support any 1 AC. If the AC has new information (I mean genuinely new, not just a rephasing or repackaging of an idea already in the stimulus), that can't be the answer in a MSS.

Hope this helps!

@matthewcsorrels859 Thanks so much for this insight! I agree with your assessment and I am shooting for a 166 so you're definitely right - will try to keep my expectations realistic and aim to consistently get 166's before I start celebrating! The end is in sight but not there yet! Thanks so much for your response, definitely helped me :)

+5 on my August LSAT compared to my PTs?

I typically drill 35 min sections of the sections and have been doing so for late July and August before the August LSAT. I've only ever written 2 full lenght PTs the week of my LSAT. On my 2 PTs I scored a 157 and 158, but on my August LSAT got a 163. The LSAT I wrote on test day felt easier than my PTs, so should I see this a fluke? Does anyone else have any theories as to how this could have happened? Is this uncommon? Thanks
