Argument: New light bulb will sell poorly.
(A) This supports the argument -- people will not like the way the new bulbs perform.
(B) This supports the argument -- people's strongest decision making criteria is price.
(C) This supports the argument -- new bulbs are less efficient than old bulbs.
(D) Unrelated, thus does not support the argument.
(E) This supports the argument -- there will soon be a new NEW bulb with the same perks at a cheaper price, thus undercutting the new bulb.
I initially selected E. Why I got it wrong: I read the response as "these new bulbs" being generally new technology to the market at large (like when we went from flip phones to smart phones). Re-reading, I see now that the subject of the analyst's prediction is one manufacturer's new bulb, so effectively a company's new product launch. This is indicated by the phrase "[d]espite the manufacturer's intense efforts." So what E is saying is that another company, a different company, is going to also release a new product which will undercut the initial manufacturer's sales.
Argument: Town discourages economic incentives.
Supporting Information: (1) Frequent emergency situations (2) They have a flat fee for a certain amount of water [amount of water not provided in paragraph]
(A) Not related -- argument is related to the laws themselves, not the method of enforcement
(B) and (E) Not related --- these responses both discuss that the town will not change the set water amount. This is a trick -- while it feels important that the town change their current laws, we have not yet established whether the current amount is appropriate or not.
(C) Strengthens -- This is the answer that establishes that the current water allocation is too high, and thus inappropriate.
(D) Not related -- we do not have enough information to say whether is it appropriate or not appropriate for what other town's levels are
What I selected: B. Why I got it wrong -- I instantly assumed that the level of water mentioned in the paragraph was inappropriate. Thus, my instinct was to take the next step of seeing whether the town was willing to make changes.
I'm about 25% through the course itself. Are you saying that you are already done with the course, and now are only doing PT's?
