I had a hard time understanding until I did this.

All cats (A) are mammals (B)

Tom is a mammal(B)

Therefore Tom is a cat (A) INVALID ARGUMENT

This is invalid because Tom could be a cat, or a dog, or a cow, or a sheep...etc
