Submit LSAT Addendum?

I'm debating whether to submit an LSAT addendum, particularly to my safety schools. I am taking the February LSAT, so should I just wait for that first?

For one of my safety schools, my LSAT is two points below the median, and 1 point above their 25th, but my GPA is at their 75th.

I am below the median in my target schools, so I was planning to submit an LSAT addendum for sure to those schools

I want to submit my apps for three of my safety schools already, but I am not sure how to go about writing an addendum if I am registered for the Feb LSAT?

What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you guys in advance!

In a huge downward slump..

Hey everyone, I hope everyone had an awesome day!

I'm currently in a huge slump.. So about a month or two ago, I finally broke a barrier and scored a 151 (157 BR), but then my last three PT's have been a 146, 139, and 143 (I'm still using the PT's in the 40's). It sucks because I know I'm capable of doing this despite my scores being below average, and because I BR in the +150's, but these last three have been a bummer.

I am a full-time elementary teacher, I've been studying since last summer, and I feel like i'm losing momentum and dragging this thing too long. I'm not in a rush to take in June unless I miraculously around my goal of 155+, so i'm currently eyeing September to apply and be enrolled Fall 18', but I would hate to push back yet another year.

Any suggestions or advice? Anything helps. Thanks in advance, I know I can always count on the 7Sage community.

Absolutely loving the free time, especially after working full-time. Reading, exercising, netflixing and of cours applications.

Life will be great until August 2019 lol...

Hey everyone!

After about 2 years studying inconsistently for the LSAT while working full-time for the past 4 years as a bilingual teacher, I ended with a lousy 148..

I was disappointed with my score because over the winter break, I was PT'ing at around 3-4 points higher since I had so much time. Then the break ended, and I was

I didn't apply to many schools considering my score and that I want to stay in Texas, so I only got accepted into South Texas College of Law, Oklahoma City University (10k scholly renewed each year), and St. Mary's College of Law in San Antonio.

I'm currently 27 (will turn 28 in July), and although I honestly think the best decision would be to retake the LSAT, I'm tempted by some of the programs/clinics and what I've heard overall about STCL from friends who have graduated from that school.

My short and long term goals are the following: short term: I'm interested in immigration/family law. long term: I've always dreamed and aspired to become a sports agent, so I'd be looking to some contract law, adr, stuff like that.

I'd love to hear everyone's honest and candid feedback. I'm tempted to start this Fall, but I have to think with my head and not my heart...

Hello again 7Sage fam,

I am very interested in immigration law/family law clinics, but not all schools I am interested in applying have these clinics. How important are clinics? Would it be better to attend a higher ranked school w/o these clinics of interest, or attend a lower ranked school with clinics where you can get valuable experience in?

I'm personally really drawn to these lower ranked schools because I think it would be awesome to get that experience, but I understand that other schools have ranking to their advantage.

It would be great to hear some perspective from some current or past students who have had experience with these clinics.

Thank you!

I'm very interested in sports law, and I keep telling myself I'm gonna be an agent! Idc if I sign a big time player or semi-pro player, once they sign pen to paper my dream has been accomplished! haha anyway I always see sports & entertainment law go hand in hand, however I don't think my numbers will get me into a good program. I'm from Texas, so i'll likely attend somewhere in Houston or Dallas, hotbeds for basketball and football.

Thanks for the insight though, and best of luck! I'll PM you soon!

Hey everyone,

Quick question... When we're in RC and LG and we encounter a question we need to skip, are we supposed to go back to it when we're done with all the questions on that specific game/passage, or do you skip that difficult question, and not look at it until you are done with all the passages, and then go back to reviewing it?

Hope this makes sense, any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Carlos - best of luck to you! Seems like you made some great improvement over time! I hope you get the score you want!! You can always extend your subscription if you want to try it again in Jan or March. Perhaps hire a tutor for those extra points? I'm at the point of just ditching this whole damn thing but for whatever reason I keep getting sucked in.

Thank you very much, @ ! I appreciate the support, but I think i'm done. I know if I was to study full-time I could definitely increase, but I think i've taken the test too many times and I also think i've been studying way too long for this, i'm done. I already gave away and recycled most of my materials lol.

I wish you all the best, @. Thank you again for your advice and support!

Carlos, thank you for taking the time to share your journey with us.

I wish you the best of luck! And do update us on Dec. 8th!

Thank you again, J.Y! You truly are doing a great job with this page. In the 2 years i've been able to see a lot of the changes and innovations to the page, as well as seeing the community really grow.

You're an excellent teacher, and very passionate at what you do. I hope I can be just as passionate in my job as you are. Wishing you and the 7Sage community all the best!

With a week left in my subscription, I wanted to say thank you to this awesome and supportive community, as well as a huge thank you to JY for creating and continually innovating this 7Sage program.

I know my stats aren't amazing, but after 2 years studying on and off for this exam and working full-time, I was able to go from a 139 diagnostic,144, 147, 152 and hopefully 154+ (Nov) on the real LSAT's, so I'll take that dub.

7Sage definitely has my recommendation, and the people on here are amazing. For what it's worth, i'll finish this post by saying what i'd change if I can do it all over again.

Dedicate studying for this exam full-time for 5 months

Burnout is real, but I also felt great momentum was the biggest factor in my score increasing. I have been studying inconsistently, but the time I took a 4 month hiatus from Jan through April then began to study for the Sept 18 LSAT has so far been my highest score. Point is 2 years studying for this exam was too damn long.

Sit for the September LSAT

That was my highest score, and as a teacher who gets the summer off, I thought getting those two months completely off was a huge difference and its also pretty early in the cycle. I would think this is also the case for students. Sure, things start ramping up in August and September, but its not so bad, right? (syllabus stuff? lol)

NOT BECOME SO FREAKIN OBSESSED, WORRY ABOUT STUDYING ONLY!

The current market for attorneys, medians, obsessing about stats, on and on. Sure, its reality and it is important. I'm not denying that. But it won't matter until you get the sore you want, and you have to bump all that noise until you're done busting your ass for this test.

I wish all the best for everyone on here. Your hard work will pay off. Happy Thanksgiving!

Cheers,

Carlos

Like others have said, I thought this was a balanced LSAT, nothing too crazy. I did however think RC was tough. Seems like most people thought it was easy or hard, no in between.

I thought my first LR with the bonobo question wasn't so bad.

The three LG's except mining were not very bad. I think I got max -5 on LG, which is avg for me.

I had 2 other LR's and I thought those were pretty tough. Lets hope for the best!

Advice on using Religion/Atheism on P.S.?

Hello everyone,

Hope you guys are enjoying your weekend! I wanted to get your thoughts on using religion/atheism on my PS.

Basically, my PS's main theme is about me overcoming my fears and how they've influenced my character and confidence, which eventually enabled me to realize my purpose to become an attorney.

One of the things I wanted to briefly write about was how denouncing my faith publicly was a big step for me, since I was being true to myself and unafraid of what my family and friends thoughts were about this.

What have you guys heard, or what are your thoughts on writing about faith/religion on PS's? Thanks in advance!

I don’t know the exact numbers and I’m totally speculating and this is just from scrutinizing LSN so much, I think the “URM boost” gives you a 2-5 point LSAT boost. Your GPA is also below the median. You aren’t a shoe in with your current stats. I would retake just to get those 2 extra points. Definitely start working on your app now and submit it whenever it’s ready even if it’s before score release. You can just indicate you’re taking November 2018 and they will wait to review with an updated score.

That's whats holding me back, I'm not a definite shoe in, but the percentage is tempting me! Thank you very much for your feedback :)

A couple of different data points for you.

The LSAC GPA/LSAT search tool has an application with your stats at a 20-30% chance of admission

Spivey's class of 2021 data has Texas Tech's LSAT scores at 152/155/157 and a GPA median of 3.43.

2017 509 data shows LSAT scores at 154/155/156 and GPA median of 3.43

Personally (speaking as a non-URM), I would not feel comfortable submitting an application below median in both LSAT and GPA and below LSAT 25th% as well. I would wait to see how I performed in November.

Again, that's just me. Either way, good luck with the retake and with your applications, regardless of when you submit them!

Thank you, @ . I'm curious to know where you got those first numbers from? Like where did you get that 20-30 percentage from?

I also feel a bit uncomfortable applying already, but the 77% is really tempting me to apply, especially since there's always a chance my score will drop.

So you think I should take my chances and apply until after the November LSAT? Regardless, thank you very much for your advice!

Hi again everyone,

So according to the Law School Predictor tool on here, I have a 77% chance to one of my target schools, Texas Tech if I were to submit my app in October.

Stats: URM/GPA: 3.39/ LSAT: 144, 147, and recently 150 for the Sept. exam

I am also registered for the November exam, however I think realistically i'd only be able to raise my score another 2-3 points...shooting for 5 though :p

Should I just submit my application to this school already, or should I just take a gamble and wait/hope for a better score? I'm really concerned because my chances drop to 68% in December (when I assume scores come out and I'd submit my app) if I stay with the same score or possibly lower the score :o

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks a bunch!

FINALLY broke an LSAT barrier!

I know it may not be much, but I finally broke an LSAT barrier and scored in the 150's 150 and BR 157! Again, I know it's nothing amazing and very mediocre for many people, but considering all of my prior PT's had been 144 and below, I'm glad I finally got into the 150's haha.

I'm preparing for the June exam and kept telling myself I better break into the 150's soon if not my confidence and motivation was just gonna be horrible. Really motivated to study now and reach my goal of +160 by June. Thank you to all the awesome people here at 7Sage!

You're below their median LSAT and you're just above the median GPA. I don't know how much being a URM will help you at that school (my intuition is not much).

Not much info about the school on LSN and I doubt you'll find anyone on 7sage that is attending that school.

I thought being a URM gives you a decent boost at most schools, no? Why do you think it won't? Just curious. Thank you for your feedback though I really appreciate it!

Generally the higher the ranking of the school the bigger the boost for being a URM. And the lower the ranking of the school the less of a boost.

That's true, I forgot about this.. :o

This may or may not help, but IMHO, if you want to go, take your shot and apply. The thing about models you have to remember, they are accurate over large numbers of people. For example, given your noted percentage of 79%, the model would suggest that out of 100 people, 79 of them would be admitted. The issue for us is that as a sample size of 1, we don't know if we are one of the 79 admitted or one of the 21 not admitted. Bottom line, these models can predict for large groups of similarly matched applicants, not us as individuals. They cannot accurately assess how we as single data points will fare in the admissions process. (Yes, I have a masters in statistical analysis, I'm a closet geek.)

Bottom line: Regardless of what any predictor tells you, if you are interested in the school, submit an application. That will be the best way of showing you in real time if you can get in.

Good luck!

Thank you again, @ ! Thanks for the analytical feedback. If you were in my place applying to the same school looking at those chances of admission percentages, would you feel good with your chances?

Check out Law School Numbers to see similar applicants and what their softs were, etc. I think it sounds like a reach school but not a crazy reach.

Thank you. I saw some applicants with numbers similar to mine and there were several that were admitted and they were non-URM's.

Is it a reach though? I feel like its more of a target school, but I guess its a reach since I'm under the median. Man i'm nervous. Thank you again.

Hey everyone,

So I used the law school predictor tool using my stats as a URM: 3.39 and 152 LSAT and it says I have a 79% chance?

I don't mean to undermine the methods here, but it almost sounds too good to be true. Anybody have experience applying here or know anybody with similar stats as mine and how they may have fared?

If it helps to know I also have a Masters and have been a bilingual middle school teacher for 5 years.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you so much!

My stats:

144, 147, waiting on September results, I’m predicting anywhere between 149-151.

It sucks because going into the Sept exam i was averaging 153 and felt confident, but i ran out of time and didn’t bubble 3-4 questions in one section, and guessed on one whole game.

Would it look good to retake in November? Should I maybe cancel this September exam and retake November?

I’m leaning towards not canceling since I’m sure I did better that a 147.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Texas Tech or U of Denver($, 2.3 conditional)?

Hi all,

I applied to several other schools, but I narrowed it down to these 4 schools:

Texas Tech (no scholarship offer yet) *COA is about $26k/year

U of Denver (a little less than $$, 2.3 conditional)

SMU (WL)

A&M (WL)

I am a Texas native, but I would be ok with moving to Colorado or staying in Texas for law school and work. I would not want to be in Texas forever though, I'd love to experience and work at another state at some point. I feel like staying in Texas for law school would be the safer route since I am more familiar with the state and have family here. I'll also have close to $50k in savings before I begin.

One thing that puts me off about U of Denver compared to Tech is after calculating my debt from the accesslex website, I think i'd have around $50-70k more debt at Denver and the average salaries for first year grads from Tech and Denver are about the same, according to their stats. Thoughts between Denver vs Tech? Any help would be appreciated! :D

Debt is a very serious thing. Are you okay with that money hanging over your head for the next 30 years, accruing massive amounts of interest daily? Are you okay with the stress the debt will put on your family? If you answered yes, then I personally would go for DU. But I would do some soul searching first.

Yes, the debt definitely worries me and will possibly dissuade me from DU. I hope that as I gain experience and my pay goes up, I won't have to deal with debt for 30 years though lol...

Hey again everyone!

I want to start off by saying thank you in advance.. This community is awesome.

I've taken the LSAT 3 times: 144 (shouldn't have taken this one), 147, and just took this Sept exam.

My goal score is 153-155 and above, and in my last 5 PT's before September exam I was averaging 153.

My prediction for this exam is I probably scored a 150-151.. I screwed up in the actual LG section after misreading a rule (in the first game!!! ugh) and I ran out of time and forgot to bubble about 3-4 questions on the last section LR :(

All this said, I'm still confident I scored higher than my last exam of 147. Before this exam I would have honestly said f*** it and kept my score, but I feel like I've dominated LG so much more and I feel like i'm really close man.. Felt really in control this time. Also, they only take high scores, should I maybe call my target schools and ask how they feel about this?

If I keep this score and get below a 152, I feel like I may want to retake. Thoughts? I'd have 4 takes total on record.

I think you need to wait until all your offers are in before you jump to conclusions. But given the choice you presented here, I think I’d go with Denver. Usually I think following the money is the best choice, but Denver is a significantly higher ranked school with better employment prospects in an area you seem more excited about. On top of that, $90k for law school is still a pretty darn good price. I wasn’t totally sure by your post, but I think that cost you gave us is not considering your savings, right? So that factored in too, you could still come out of it with even less debt. I think that would set you up very well no matter what your post-school salary is.

Thank you for your input, @ . I do agree I need to wait, I just have a gut feeling it'll come down to these schools considering my chances are so low at UH and the others.

And yes you are correct, I wasn't including my savings. The $90k figure does worry me since I've been fortunate enough not to have student debt in the past, this will be new to me. I appreciate your honest feedback, Leah. Best of luck to you!

I wouldn't count Texas A&M out. If you're getting money from Denver, then you may be in line for some A&M money as well. I'm in Colorado and decided not to apply to Denver, because they have conditional scholarships requiring you to keep a 3.0 to keep your scholarship. If you lose it, the tuition rate is pretty pricey. A&M's threshold is just good academic standing, which puts you at about a 2.0 or 2.3, and their tuition is cheaper too. Also, Denver's 1L academic attrition rate was over three times that of A&M last year.

I wouldn't go to an unranked school personally, especially if you're not passionate about living in the area long-term.

Thank you for your advice. I am hopeful to be admitted to A&M, that'll definitely shake things up for me. I didn't think I was going to be admitted to Denver, so once I was accepted I was pretty stoked just to think about possibly living in Denver.

My scholarship stipulation was a 2.3, so I guess it's not so bad? The attrition rate is concerning though, wonder why that is? Thank you again!

So I finished my first rough draft, and one of the ways I introduced the theme of my essay is through a time I went through unemployment, and how that built character for me.

Character was the main theme of my essay, and I attempted to tie it in through my work as a bilingual teacher, personal experience with one of my students' families immigration attorney and how that changed my students' character similarly to how it changed my character through my experience with my family.

One of my friends however, suggested that me writing about unemployment as adversity was a bad idea.. What do you guys think? I obviously did not proudly write about my unemployment, and I was not laid off for a bad reason or anything like that, and my focus was not on being unemployed.

I thought adversity in these essays was entirely subjective, without the obvious exception of writing about something illegal, etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

LG Fool Proof Method (Quick question about time!)

Good morning everyone,

I hope everyone has a great day at work/studying! Quick question... In the fool proof method for logic games, are we supposed to be targeting to finish the game in the designated time for that game, or in the standard time to finish a logic game at 8:45?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello everyone,

February will be my third and final exam, and making the final push now. Was wondering what your study week looks like? Do you guys try to do a bit of LR, RC, LG in a day, or focus on one section per day?

I work full time, and usually study for an hour before work, and 2-3 hours afterwards.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.. best of luck to everyone!

Hi everyone,

I know it's still early in the cycle and I have some schools decision still pending, but I sorta have that gut feeling I will attend one of these schools that have already accepted me.

I am still waiting on Texas A&M, SMU, UH and OU and got waitlisted at Texas Tech, but the two choices I'm really debating right now is U of Denver with a decent scholarship that puts COA at a little over 30k/year and Oklahoma City Law, which I understand is unranked but has given me the best scholarship offer and will put COA at only $15k/year.

I am drawn to U of Denver's better ranking and am fascinated at the idea of moving and working in Colorado, but the debt scares me. Fortunately, I have never had student debt. I am not too excited about possibly attending OCU Law considering that it is not a great school anywhere outside Oklahoma or OKC, but financially I think that will be my best offer and I wouldn't mind working in OKC for a couple years. I wish I knew where I wanted to work after 3 years, so I guess i'm also drawn to Denver because of the relative flexibility and mobility of a Denver Law degree?

Everyone on here has been completely honest and supportive with me, so I have no issue being transparent about my financial situation in order to help me with a decision. After my last year of work this year, I will have close to $55k in savings which I plan to use for law school, but obviously try and keep as much as I can. My parents have said they will help me with some of my expenses, but I am not willing to ask for help with tuition money.

Between Denver Law and OCU Law, what do you guys think would be better given my situation? I have close to or less than a 50% chance at the other schools I mentioned, which is why I'm not too hopeful that I will be accepted at this point. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

Coffee or no coffee for September LSAT?!

So I hear that we need to stick to our routine for game day, yet I worry drinking an 8 oz cup of joe will make me a bit jumpy during the test? Thoughts anyone?

I think it sounds great man. Like others have said, just be sure to make it about you, perhaps if you have a different vision, or how you can make a different impact?

Either way, your PS seems sincere. Good luck!

Good morning everyone,

So I've been "studying" for a long time now, nearing 1.5 years. Pushed back for various reasons, but I'm really convinced that, although I'm sure I'll miss an inference, rule, strategy, whatever we learn from the curriculum, I'm very familiar with it. When I blind review, I know what I did wrong, and I obviously try not to make that mistake again.

My biggest issue I think is my anxiety when I do a PT or a timed section. Granted, I've only taken about 7 PT's, and my highest has been a 151 (BR 160), and I know a lot of people here will say "you need to go back to the curriculum" or "you need to drill more".

I agree that I may perhaps need to drill more, but don't you guys feel that the best way to overcome this issue is by doing more timed sections, drilling question types, PT'ing and then blind reviewing? I just feel that if timing and anxiety while testing is a big issue, I'd have to tackle that by doing timed sections, no? Any advice will help. I'm realistic with my goals, and will receive any constructive criticism well :D

Thanks everyone

I will be 29 when I start. Graduated a Master's program at 23, traveled, saved, taught reading & writing to wonderful elementary and middle school students for 5 years, but now I'm ready to pursue my passion.

I'm sincerely excited to just learn. I took my undergrad and grad school for granted. I was more concerned to just get a damn job and that's it. Can't wait to start in the Fall!

PT strategy for last weekend before LSAT?

Hey everyone,

I work full-time, so my plan was to take 2 PT’s this Sunday and Monday.

My question is would it be best to just take 1 PT on Monday or go back to back PT’s Sunday and Monday? I know it may be unwise to take another PT without completing BR, but the only reason id do this is because I wouldn’t have time to take another PT during the week since I work.

My goal is a 155 on game day .

Last 5 PT’s: 150, 151, 153, 156, 152
