Resubmitting Applications in same cycle

I may have gone the optimistic route of going through this application cycle and am not only looking for advice but have some questions

. I was one of the few (probably) that submitted applications early in hopes that it would be easier for when I focus on my LSAT. So as it may, I’ve done all my applications between September and October. I’m practically stuck with what I have already submitted and am only waiting for my LSAT. Now that I am sitting here, I wish I had waited and done some more research/review before I decided to submit my applications. I do not believe my writing documents are bad, I have quite the confidence in them, but now i’m wondering how much better they could of been if I had a professional look at all my documents together to see what I am missing, what I could strengthen or completely omit.

I know my only options are to just email them some updated documents and hope they like what I’ve given them.

But I’m curious, is it possible to withdraw applications and resubmit in the same cycle? I do not think that’s possible, and even if it is. Does it look bad if you redo your application? Do they notice that you submitted one back in september, withdrew and then resubmitted a new one??

All advice would be helpful and if it’s just simply a silly idea, don’t be afraid to let me know. Law school won’t go away, so i know if it doesn’t work out this cycle, I have next year

From my understanding if you have already been given accommodations previously (outside of LSAC) it’s very easy to get approval.

For the question of “will law schools know?” NO, it’s against HIPPA for one and two, they only see the scores, they do not see who had extra time and it is not weighted differently.

I had a pre law advisor express that concern a few months back thinking that those who have extra time will be weighted differently and seen differently. I had asked a law school if they can see who had testing accommodations and if the scores are different for those who have them. They responded with what I said above, “We can not tell who has accommodations or not in the lsat score and it is NOT graded differently”

For me it was pretty easy. I believe it will be better for you as you have years of documented proof of testing accomodations. I have never had accomodations done so I was a little nervous about it, but all I did was have my psychiatrist fill out the form and then I did the "personal" statement explaining it. So definitely just having your doctor confirm your diagnosis and what you need for accomodation is all that is necessary!

I believe you have until right after the score release to cancel and get a refund for the January test. I def recommend going ahead and signing up for it and either cancel before the refund date or go ahead and take it again, who knows maybe you’ll even do BETTER on it and that can look good on an application

@ I spent close to $2000 using a 7 sage tutor the tutor I had did nothing to help my score.

I would try using a private tutor. sometimes it’s better as they are focused on YOU and not a company’s picked curriculum!

That helped me a lot more than using a tutor from a company

I agree wth the above comment. The amount of time you spare for studying is really up to the individual. Some can study for over a year and only see +10 in improvment and some can study 3 months and score above 15+ points. Its really up to how much effort and discipline you can put yourself through and staying consistent. When I started studying back in July, my diagnostic was a 148 without any prior knowledge of the test. and after consistently studying and being disciplined, by september I was at 155. I definitely lost track and stopped working hard for a few weeks and declined a few points, but I easily got back into it and by my Nov test, I was scoring between 153-157 on PTs. I also could of broken 160s if I had a little bit more confidence in myself (that comes with more practice). That was without disciplined and rigorous studying because I got lazy and over it in October LOLLL. I basically went up 9 points within 4 months of on/off studying. So if you are able to be consistent and stay focused, it is definitely likely. My advice is to pay attention to your patterns and strategies, those can make or break how successful you are in specific section and do not get discouraged if you fluncuate, I had that happen when I restructured how I was doing RC. Once I started scoring better on RC, I started doing poorly on LR and had to switch up my studying. Unfortunately I did not have enough time to solidify that before my Nov Test. But ANYTHING is POSSIBLE with the healthy mindset and strength.

Well I took my test last friday. It was my first ever LSAT and now that I’ve rested and adjusted to life again. I’m glad I decided to use Nov as a trial run and now I feel more motivated for January.

I had LR - RC - LR - LG. I was happy to end with LG as it’s my strongest section, although it definitely threw me for a loop as it was more time consuming than I expected. In/Out Sequencing, two I struggled with in prepping but luckily I am good at guessing in those.

I am hoping my first LR was the guinea pig section as it was more difficult than I was expecting and kind of mentally exhausted me for my RC section and I ended up guessing for 2 passages because I ran out of time.

I believe the test was as difficult as it’s supposed to be and although I do not have confidence that I scored where I want, I am confident I did well enough in my current abilities!

Counting down to Nov 29th.

Anyone else have a hard time with the last LG game?

I definitely did. LG is my strongest section and I felt stuck for a bit of it. I admit, in and out games are one that I struggled with so seeing that in the section caused me to slow down on time for sure

they always do the same months each year. it’s just after June, the test is going to change and after july it’s considered a new academic/testing year so those test dates won’t be uploaded until later!

Just got done with my exam. I would say it was relatively fair in terms of difficulty. I had two LR sections, one RC, one LG.

Do you know if we all get the same makeup of sections? LG has been the focus of my drilling up until the test (tonight at 9ET) so I think it might actually work out better for me if I had two of them as opposed to 2 LR/RC

I also had 2 LR, 1 RC and 1 LG. I wished it was 2 LG as it is my strongest section, but i agree w the first person. even tho it is my strongest section, it was pretty time consuming, i don’t think it was a level of difficulty more or less. so i bet you’ll do just fine

DFW Jan 2024 Study Group/Accountability

Hi!

So I had just finished my Nov test and luckily I am signed up for January, but I definitely felt that nasty feeling after finishing it. Now I’m super motivated to do way better for January! I’m looking for some buddies or accountability groups in DFW area (texas) who want to come together and help each other out for the next 2 months!!

let me know!!

Let me know if you get any advice about this!! I graduated last december with an overall 3.25 and did not even know I had 2 types of ADHD until just a month ago and so I am in the same boat as you!! it is quite frustrating to know this was something that was potentially holding me back from having an excelling GPA for the last 18 years lol. I will admit, I went back and redid my GPA addendas after I got diagnosed and added that to my already submitted applications but I have no idea if it will help or be useful. Since with these addendas they dont want to hear "excuses" rather "accountability".

First off, I agree with the above comment!! So I will go off of that with my own similar experience to help you know you arent alone and this is what I have decided after the suffering of feeling lost and hopeless the last two weeks.

I feel almost like we are the same person. I do not have a competitive GPA so I know my LSAT has to be good enough to at least average out my numbers on paper. I have been studying (not consistently unfortunately) for about 4 months now and have improved, but not drastically enough to be satisfied with what I potentially could earn to be a competitive applicant and with my "below average" (the quotes are important bc depending on the schools, the low GPA average is different ) GPA. I had already done my applications back when they opened in September because I did not want to worry about them while studying and could have my complete focus on my LSAT. I was really hoping my first test tomorrow (NOV 2023) would be good enough but it looks like ( from many sources and first hand experienced people) unless you are just a perfect test taker and can score above 165 in your first shot, anticipating another test for January is not a bad idea nor does it impact/hurt your chances in the application process. I had spoken to my pre-law advisor months ago and a few tutors in the last week and they all recommended the same thing: "to just take the Nov test to get a feel and see how you do ( and like the above person said, take it, rest/study while waiting for your results and if you are satisfied you are done, but if not continue to study and work your a** off for January) but work towards January" It gives you the safety and personally the most mentally assuring situation. Based on what I've heard and learned, having your apps done and just having the schools waiting for an LSAT is better than waiting for your lsat to apply ( to me because I know if worst case scenario I am unsatisfied with my Janaury score, Ill be cutting it close to the some deadlines and potentially risking being at the end of the app pool for some schools and the longer you wait, the less availability), bc the apps are already there. Most schools do not even start looking at applications and making decisions until dec/jan anyway (unless you are applying early action or early decision) so my advice:

Take that Nov LSAT, sign up for January just in case, you have until the Nov scores are released to sign up (cancel i believe with a refund. Im not too sure as I have a fee waiver). Then work on your applications maybe while you are waiting for that score release on the 29th. That way they are done and if you are happy with your score you are done with the application process, if your not, you have them done anyway and can solely focus on improving your lsat scores for the next 6 weeks. When you submit these apps and indicate you are taking a test in Nov and in January, they will wait for that January test to make a decision. (but if you decide the Nov was good enough, you can easily email the admissions teams and let them know you are no longer taking the January and want to have your application considered)

I hope my experience in these last few months helps you figure out what your next steps will be and good luck on this test! As everyone has been telling me (annoyingly so) "its not the only chance, most do not do their best the first time and you can always do it again. But also you never know what the admissions team is looking for, they look at the whole package, not just your numbers on a transcript or test. Just have confidence in your abilities and do your best."

I understand that frustration. I had submitted my request back in early september and it took them until late october (after i had to spam call customer service multiple times to get an answer) and suddenly it was approved same day. i learned super early that if you want an answer don’t waste your time emailing, try to call during a time CS is not busy (aka mid afternoon at the end of the week) and they might be able to get you somewhere quickly.

I was annoyed w prometric though bc i found out YESTERDAY i could reschedule my test unless it was over the phone and accommodation department doesn’t work weekends so when i finally got on the phone w them today they said the timeframe was passed. If i had known accommodated test takers can only reschedule over the phone i wouldn’t have sent an email request a week ago and tried to do it myself. I hope you get in touch w them and see what the issue is. i was stressed while studying as well not knowing if i was going to have 35 or 53 minutes. it took them basically 6 weeks to approve my accommodations though

Nov LSAT w already submitted Apps

Hellooo,

I guess I wanted to send a discussion to see if this would be a good idea for not.

So background info, I have already completed all my applications back in September because I wanted to only focus on my LSAT and not worry about my applications. So all my schools are simply just waiting for my LSAT score to begin looking into my applications. I’m in a position where I’m only working on my mental psyche bc test anxiety is real for me. Based on all my Pts I’m scoring between 153-160 but I really want to score above 160 to be competitive applicant due to my non competitive GPA. I have confidence in all my other applicant materials but I know there’s importance to the numbers (GPA/LSAT). I decided to also sign up for the January LSAT for a backup if i’m not statified with the score I receive. But i’m debating on either just leaving whatever score on my Nov I get and see what schools decide i’m good enough even with my average scores or canceling it/ leaving it and then working on my January test and if schools decide to make a decision prior to my new test score or wait for it.

If i decide to want to wait for my January score, even though I’ve already done applications, how does that work? Will schools hold back and wait? or will they make a decision and then determine if waiting for a January score is worth it?

I’m sure reaching out to my schools i’ve applied to and seeing what’s the best way to move forward is a good option but I have a tendency to think ahead to prevent a mental break down on Nov 29th lol

Any advice helps!

Hi!

So I am somewhat in this situation. I started my lsat studying while i was in search for a job (i’m a post grad student and it’s been a struggle all year) and at that time i was a full time lsat student lol. i ended up getting a job that was high stress but had part time hours bc i knew i wanted to be able to take time to focus on the lsat and save my sanity. but i also know that’s not an option for a lot of people, especially professionals or older adults. But when i did start my new job i decided to take a couple weeks off to get adjusted to my work duties and schedule before i jumped into studying bc i knew i wouldn’t of been able to focus or retain any information. (this was good but also bad bc it was hard for me to get back into the grove of studying and in a pattern. and ended up having to work 2x as hard to get back at the scores i was getting before i started working) but once that was all settled, i created a routine that allows me 2-4 hours each night of studying and a practice test on the first day i have off so that i can see how im doing each week and adjust my studying time from that. It’s definitely a balance i believe negatively impacted me in the beginning but now im back in the groove and it works for me. That would be my advice, make sure your work schedule is balanced and structured and see what times you have outside of work where you think can be focused solely on studying and use those days to select how many hours you want to study each day !

I have never related more. I am taking my test on Friday and I’m in the boat w all the “average” scorers and it’s been intimidating and deteriorating to my mental health seeing most people that are “worried” or “complaining” while they are scoring high 160s or above. as someone who is flunctuating in the 150s it’s been so hard to stay motivated or in a good mindset and seeing barely any people who are in a score relatated situation asking for help or giving advice. you are not alone and all those giving advice in this discussion are so helpful. i definitely was in the depression stage for the last 2 weeks seeing myself not improve in a way i deem acceptable. but i had to learn to not put a significantly unattainable goal for myself in the last minute. im luckily at the point where i decided that although november is the test i want as a one and done. january is my backup. putting faith in my confidence and hoping that schools will look at my whole package, if not then i have next year or the next. i’m still fairly young being 10 months out of university. the lsat isn’t just a test it’s a whole thing for me, having to restructure my entire mental thinking and confidence was the biggest struggle. GOOD LUCK to everyone and those struggling w average scores.

you don’t need to write a whole addendum to indicate you are waiting for a future score. most applications allow you to say you are taking a future lsat. you can also simply email the admissions team to hold your application until you receive your January score.

From my understanding, there was a lsac internet issue during one of the nov test dates that impacted every test taker during the last section worldwide. maybe you can discuss options bc of this issue with lsac?

Confirm action

Are you sure?
