BR Question

Hi folks,

I was wondering if one should expect to eventually be able to score 179-180 consistently in BR and if the fact that I'm not able to do so mean I still have theory to learn.

Digital LSAT and scratch paper

Hello folks,

Something’s been bothering me ever since I’ve heard about the digital LSAT and I just wanted you guys’ opinion on it.

I don’t have bad handwriting per se, but I do unconsciously take up a lot of space, which isn’t great for things like LG. As JY once said: Write small, write fast, write neat.

So my question for you guys is: is anyone actually excited to take the digital LSAT because of the scratch paper ?

I did some research on Canadian law schools but am not too sure about what is considered a splitter. As far as I can tell, most people admitted to Canadian law schools have at least a 3.0 cGPA and the rare exceptions have LSAT scores that are quite high. (~165+)

There are however a good portion of them that look at B2/B3/L2 so maybe for those schools you aren't really even a splitter. Also, some schools (like York for example on the top of my head) mention that they take a much more holistic view of applicants and I think those schools typically admit more people with a sub 3.0 GPA. For these more holistic schools, I've heard that tailoring your personal statement/CV to the things the school is known for could be helpful.

Hope this helps.

Scored 10 points below my average PT. Granted I knew I wasn't ready for July LSAT and took it mainly because of the ability to cancel, but wow. Just wow. I kept staring at my score like I was hallucinating. I cancelled it the second I saw it, didn't have to think much about it LOL. I'll have a good cry and then get back to studying...

Congrats to all that achieved the score you wanted!

Quote for any of you that are disappointed with your score: "If you want to increase your success rate, double your failure rate." -Thomas J. Watson

I would say something like keep your head up but I feel like its so generic it won't help the mood you're in. =/

Look at it this way, if you got a score closer to what you wanted but not quite there, you wouldn't be as motivated to reach your target score! Good luck on the next take!

Is the 200$ registration fee an issue? If not I would definitely keep the 166 and retake when you can.

Congrats! I scored well above my average on that same PT. I personally found the 50s much easier than the 70/80s but to hit 170 in just 3 months is awesome! You’re killing it!

That was my impression too. I did a lot worse on my first PT in the 70/80s than what I was averaging and still can't seem to do better than -3 in an LR section in the 70/80s whereas this one was a 170 because I got -1 in one of the LR.

I had a similar issue and I found that JY's new approach to the first question of each game really helped. If you don't know what I'm referring to, his approach is to eliminate an answer choice from the first question of each game every time you write down a rule. If by the time you wrote down all the rules you either have two possible answers or none, often times you misread something.

My first 170 on a PT!

Guys!! GUYS!!!

I know some of you are probably tired of seeing these posts, but I have no one around me that knows enough about the LSAT to appreciate this with me. After almost three months of studying and constantly feeling like I'll be forever stuck in the mid 160s, I actually feel like there's hope! I know I shouldn't put too much weight on one PT, but this is quite motivating. ^^

Thanks for the help thus far everyone!! Shoutout to Sami and Josh (Can't Get Right)! Even though I have only attended their sessions/worked with them a few times, their advices are very insightful.

Side note: Like many others I immediately started googling 'is PT53 easy?' to see if it was just an anomaly and haven't found much. Any thoughts?

July was my first, as well! I really should have practiced more with digital because I was shitting bricks before and during, haha. Reassuring to hear I wasn't alone.

@ - are you done or planning on retaking? I'm curious how to plan applications and make use of the next few months when everything feels so uncertain/dependent on my score.

I had enrolled for September and was planning on taking October too before I registered for July last minute when I heard it was a freebie. Definitely will take it one more time and possibly two.

I'm not sure where you live and if you're only applying to US schools, but I'm in Canada and am only applying to Canadian schools. Here most schools have a November 1st deadline and the last LSAT that counts is January. So in my case July and September are my only choices if I want to see my score before I apply. My plan will probably be to see how I do in September and apply to schools in that range/a little above. Then I'll take the October and possibly January LSAT to have a better chance for those reaches.

Considering you're already PTing in the 170s I'm guessing you should be fine with the two months you have for September. I don't know how many times you've taken the LSAT so far and if the 5 times in 5 years thing would apply to you soon, but if it doesn't, you could do Sept - Oct - Nov/Jan and have the September and October scores pretty early to apply with. July was my first LSAT and I was freeaaaking out both before and during the test but knowning I had three more chances for this cycle definitely helped.

Guys!! Thank you for all the advice! I did a combination of them and even though I started having to go mid 2nd section and it was kind of bothering me during the 3rd one, I didn’t have to leave mid-test!

7Sage has a bunch of hour long videos on podcast apps like Himalaya. Some of those videos cover major points in the core curriculum. You could download those podcasts and listen on the plane.

I think the value of two months of work on your resume isn't worth the potential risk of them noticing that it was only two months and ask you/your employer about it.

Hello! I'm currently working part-time in Ottawa but go back to Montreal every two weeks to see my parents. I'm not really looking for a study group though as I feel like I work better one-on-one but would appreciate a study buddy if you're interested. Same goes for anyone else in Ottawa!

Surprise score jump in LR

Hey everyone,

I really need a sanity check because I feel like I'm getting in my own head. So I started studying about a month ago and was initially planning on taking the October LSAT because learning about the July Freebie. I started off with a 155 diagnostic with -8 and -11 on the two LR sections.

I then went through the LSAT Trainer (minus LG because 7sage's LG explanations felt more intuitive) and the CC and have recently started taking timed full PTs. Now this might be a very small sample, but in the 6 PTs after one month of studying I am getting an average of 164 with scores ranging from 162 to 168. (and BRs ranging from 171 to 174 if that matters) The score jump from my 155 diagnostic is due to a pretty big increase in LG as one might expect, but also because I got -6 to -3 in LR sections in all 6 PTs.

Now this is where I need a sanity check. When going through LR sections now, I don't feel like I'm doing things differently from when I took my diagnostic aside from maybe a better understanding of what the question stems are asking. Since doing well on the first PT after going through the CC, when doing LR sections in full PTs I just try to go as smoothly as I can while telling myself to trust my instincts and it seems like its working out. So my question is, did anyone else experience this random jump in LR after the LSAT Trainer/CC? Is it even possible that I was lucky 6 PTs in a row?....

I was in a similar situation a month ago when I started studying too. What helped me was actually engaging with the content rather than trying cold approaches like diagramming everything. Most of the time for those questions you'll feel a gap while you read and 1-2 answer choices will stand out as good fillers. If you can't decide between two potentially right answers then it might be good to diagram just to confirm, but I would suggest not doing it all the time because its pretty time consuming.

From what I saw on some forums, you have ok chances but not great. Most people accepted had 165+ LSATs but some had lower GPAs than you.

Don't think that's possible yet. You could just do unlimited time and have your time counting up rather than down.

Writing Sample

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if there's any issues if I'm taking the September LSAT but haven't done the writing sample for July?

I'd suggest you don't take the exam if you've done very little prep. If you've been planning to take the October LSAT, then you should just focus on that and try to kill the LSAT on your first shot. Also, in July there's a 50% chance you'd get a paper test, whereas you should be prepping for the digital test for October. No point in taking the exam if you aren't yet hitting your target score on PTs.

You're right that I am not hitting my target score (168-170) yet and that I've done very little prep since I only finished the CC and did 6 full PTs, but I really want to apply this Fall. 168-170 would likely get me the school I really want, but the 164~ my PTs are currently averaging at would get me into the other schools I would like to attend but aren't my first choice. Knowing I have a 160+ and can at least get into some schools I'm interested in would definitely be helpful as if I take the October test, I think I won't get my score until I get super close to the Nov 1st application deadline. (I'm in Canada and most Canadian schools' deadline is Nov 1st.)

That's the hard part with July.... We'll never know how LR was graded. Was there an experimental section, or were there just experimental questions? It was so mixed that no one could pin point what section was what. I voted for LR because of this. There were some really hard questions, and we'll never know which ones were counted and which weren't.

I think you can't see the score breakdown from July but it does show which section was experimental. Pretty sure it was confirmed on a couple places that one full LR section was experimental. I had LG-LR-LR-RC-LR and if I remember correctly it was my second LR.

Confirm action

Are you sure?
