Welcome to HLS :D! See you in September (end of August)!

Thank you all :D

@ Can I ask when you started hit 170?

Do you usually draw conditional logic for LR??

I think in I started hitting 170 in late July and I got 173ish in late August. However, in September I plateaued for quite a while until the real test. I guess I broke the plateau on the test day :D

@ how long did you prepare for LSAT? any tips on LG?

For 6 months in total. I started preparing LSAT in March while still working but later quit my job in June to study the LSAT.

For LG, I did the Cambridge bundle of LG and took JY's core curriculum and that's it...

Proctors:

They have 3 proctors and they are very quiet throughout the whole process. They are not super familiar with the rules but you can tell that they have past experience as proctors for LSAT and are very very nice people.

Facilities:

Bathroom is very close to the classroom and is large enough to accommodate the test takers.

What kind of room:

Normal size classroom with AC on (Taiwan is still hot in September).

How many in the room:

They scheduled it 8*7, but about 30-40% of people didn't show up. So about 30 people in the room.

Desks:

Classroom-size desk and chair.

Left-handed accommodation:

Not sure.

Noise levels:

Quiet. At 9:30AM there were some noise because another test administered by ETC is happening downstairs. Didn't bother me that much.

Parking:

I walked to the test center, but, well, it's Taiwan. Why would you want to drive to the test center in Taiwan?

Time elapsed from arrival to test:

The test takers were split into two classrooms so the waiting time is not very long. I think we started before 9.

Irregularities or mishaps:

Didn't notice.

Other comments:

I like this test center a lot. Taipei in general is a relaxing place and the locals are super nice. There are also a lot of good food in this area, so I enjoyed staying there.

The classroom located in the International building, which is on the right side when you enter the main gate. You have to go all the way down the hall to the elevators. The location of the classrooms for LSAT won't be posted until the morning of the test, so don't worry.

And an very important notice: don't mistake National Taiwan University of Science and Technology from National Taipei University of Science and Technology. They are two different schools and located in different part of the city.

Would you take the test here again?

Yes, definitely. I also recommended this test center to my friends.

@ Out of curiosity - What was/were your most visited core lesson(s)? Similarly, which ones did you find to be most helpful?

The section on "Intro to logic" is my most visited core lesson. If I couldn't go to sleep at time, I will try to connect all the lessons in my mind though haha :D it goes like "first we have MP questions because that's the basis for all LR questions. Then we learned MSS questions because it's basically MP questions with the conclusion in the answer choice. Next we studies logic and learned that assumptions are the weak link of an argument...etc etc..."

@ I was planning to do two a week. Why did you suggest not taking one per day?

I personally can only be focused and efficient for 4-5 hours a day. If I want to BR the PT on the same day, I will not be as focused. BR is the most important learning process and I don't want to do it half-hearted.

Well, don't do one PT per day, that's my advice.

JY is recommending reading the LR question stem first and figure out what question type it is before moving on the the stimulus, which I fully agree and find useful.

However, there are some question stems referring to a specific part of the stimulus and it probably won't make sense if you read it first. (here is an example where JY recommends returning to the questions stem later: https://classic.7sage.com/lsat_explanations/lsat-25-section-4-question-05).

So, my question is, what to do with an LR question stem that has a lot of contextual information? Do I just stop thinking about it if I found the question stem containing too many contextual information? Or do I try to figure out a bit what is going on, who the question stem is referring to, etc. and carry the question stem when reading the stimulus? For example, in the example above, should I just skim the question stem and return to it later after reading the stimulus, or should I try to figure out that I am going to support Zimbabwe's argument and then read the stimulus?

You need to be interviewed in order to get in. But it is not the case that whoever gets interviewed first gets admitted first. I was interviewed in early February last cycle but was only admitted at the end of March. But seems like you are in the first interview group! My friend was interviewed last year in the first group and was admitted before Christmas.

Hi Coco,

Thank you for keeping me grounded and giving a great response, I appreciate it. I understand that this is by no means a guarantee of admissions and I come very well fall into that 25% who are not admitted, however, it is good to know this information.

You are greatly appreciated.

Hahaha that's what I kept telling myself during all those unbearable waiting days... that I might well be the 25%. Well good luck to your cycle and probably see you next year at HLS

OMG Thank You 7Sage Community!

OMG I woke up this morning (living in Beijing) and found that an email from LSAC waiting for me... And I opened it... Bang! 177!

To be honest, I couldn't believe my eyes!

Thank you so much 7Sage. This is a huge increase from my 161 on September 2014 LSAT. The blind review method and the study group was sooooo helpful! This would not have been possible without JY and 7Sage community.

Ahhh I'm so happy right now <3

I did my interview last year. It was almost midnight in China and the internet connection wasn't great... so we actually turned off the video. So they are pretty accommodating and nice.

Raphael summarized the questions nicely. The questions they asked me were just normal. My advice would be to think about what you want to ask them. My interviewer just graduated from HLS not very long ago, so we talked a lot about her time at HLS, which was great.

Good luck and hope to see you on campus in August!

I was going through the core curriculum and encountered this weakening question: https://classic.7sage.com/lsat_explanations/lsat-27-section-4-question-18

I chose C, and the correct answer choice turned out to be B.

After going through the video, I understood that answer choice B is correct. But I still couldn't figure out why C is wrong. In the video, the explanation given is that "if they (book publisher) do make sizable money, they would continue doing it. The fact that they stop makes it even less reasonably that it is a money-grab... therefore C is incorrect".

But why? If C makes it less reasonable for book publisher to be money-grab, then it weakens the argument.

I wonder if anyone can help me on that...

You can just take it off if they question you. Some ID photos require you to take off your glasses anyways. Doesn't seem to be a problem to me when I took the test.

I applied last cycle. I waited until my September score released (so end of October) to start writing my PS (I was thinking about the subject all the time though). And I submitted my application right before thanksgiving.

Yeah, I mean I remember you killing the LSAT and still making time to write a killer PS. It really doesn't take that much time once you have an idea of what you want to write about. Editing is what took me the longest and making sure I had other experts I trust proofread and edit it.

Haha yeah, I worked with David to edit my PS. Since David always responded within a day or two, the total editing process only took about a month. I also had two other experts (read: friends) to proofread my PS. The time is more than enough if you can work efficiently. Also, I did not need to drastically change my PS subject or something.

I decided to take the LSAT in 2014, third year of college. I purchased some popular LSAT prep books and read them throughout my summer while doing physics research on campus. Did some PTs and took the September 2014 test. Knew I was not ready for it and scored 161. I sort of gave up the idea of going to law school after the defeat and went on to work after graduation. Half a year into my job, I decided to take the LSAT again. Again, I started with the popular books but I knew that they didn't work last time. So I did some research and found 7Sage. Abandoned everything else immediately and purchased ultimate+. Finished cc in 3 months and PTed for 2 and a half months. I took the September 2016 LSAT, got a 177 and went to HLS.

What do you think was the difference between the other LSAT prep books (Powerscore? LSAT trainer?) and 7sage? Anything concrete you felt were clear improvements?

I was good at LG, but JY improved my technique. For RC, JY has a clear way to train and improve. I found his video explanation on RC paragraphs (not questions) very helpful. By following his explanation, I was able to learn how to effectively read the articles. For LR, I found JY's lawgic easier to understand. JY was able to to simplify things better than other test prep books I read.

I consistently scored 170-175 (175+ after BR) until the last three PTs before the September test. I scored two 168 and an inflated 172 for the last three. I basically told myself that it's not representative of my entire PT process and just didn't let the lower scores influence me. I was also really wanted to do another PT few days before the test day just to prove myself. But I held back and followed my initial plan. Guess what, I achieved a 177.

Confirm action

Are you sure?
