Hey all! I am a bit confused about this question because I don't think that the answer choice is correct. I chose D because it was the one that made the most sense out of all the ACs, but it's not a fully correct answer choice in my opinion. Here's my thought process:

My translation of the stimulus:

In 1980, Country A's GDP was $5000 higher than that of the EEC. By 1990, the difference between the two had increased to 6000 (factoring in inflation). Since a rising GDP means a rising average standard of living, Country A's standard of living must have increased between 1980 and 1990.

Okay so first, this argument is assuming that the difference is not from the EEC's GDP Being higher than Country A (in other words the leading country did not flip). Second, Country A's GDP must actually have increased in order to reach the conclusion that their standard of living has risen; it cannot have stayed the same or decreased.

Let's use this scenario:

1980 GDP

Country A = 10,000

EEC = 5,000

Acceptable:

1990 GDP

Country A = 11,000

EEC = 5,000

Not Acceptable (stayed same):

1990 GDP

Country A = 10,000

EEC = 4,000

Not Acceptable (decreased):

1990 GDP

Country A = 9,000

EEC = 3,000

This means that the EEC's GDP cannot have decreased by 1000 or more.

However, the correct answer choice says "The per capita GDP of the EEC was NOT LOWER BY MORE THAN 1,000 in 1990 than it had been in 1980."

"Not lower by more than 1,000" includes 1,000, meaning it did not account for the scenario where Country A's GDP stayed the same.

The correct answer choice should have said "The per capita GDP of the European Economic Community was not lower by 1,000 or more in 1990 than it had been in 1980."

Am I correct in my understanding here? I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks!

Did anyone else read the question stem as all the answer choices below are assumed to have the city/government liable and that we have to choose the one where the government actually shouldn't be liable for injuries? I got so confused with this question lolll

HELP

Hello, can someone please explain the difference between answer choice D and answer choice E? I am failing to see how they are different no matter how many times I look over the wording. I probably missed something or diagrammed it incorrectly, so I would love for someone to double check my work. Thank you!

The stimulus lawgic I wrote is:

/D --> J

/J --> D

D --> Q

J --> Q

Q

The lawgic I diagrammed for (D) is as follows:

/L --> K

/K --> L

L --> M

K --> M

M

(E) Lawgic:

/D --> S

/S --> D

D --> C

S ---> C

C

Thanks!

This is just a hypothetical, but if answer choice D were changed to "The prices of the company's meals have increased over the past two years," would that be an MBT answer?

#help

The question specifically notes that they are focusing on the QUALITY of the car. I was going to pick answer C if I had treated it as a general weakening question, but then I thought about quality and answer choice E brought the quality into question. If a part in the car is already breaking down within the first year of buying it, even though it’s minor and would get free service to fix it, wouldn’t that bring the quality of the car to question?
