Georgetown University (Undergrad Campus)

Proctors: Decent, actually kind of funny, very relaxed. Made a couple of jokes throughout that eased the tension a bit 9/10.

Facilities: Older building, temperature was perfect, probably right at 65 degrees 9/10

What kind of room: Class Room

How many in the room: About 40

Desks: TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!! Tiny desks, LG was a nightmare 0/10

Left-handed accommodation: A couple of spare desks

Noise levels: Great building for an older university 9/10

Parking: Free parking on Saturdays, ample room 9/10

Time elapsed from arrival to test: About 30 minutes

Irregularities or mishaps: Stupid obvious questions from other test takers

Other comments:

Would you take the test here again?

Absolutely not. Based solely on the size of the desk. I actually felt as if it was a terrible disadvantage and not only slowed me down on LG logistically but also added an extra stress that I needed to accommodate for. other than this, no other complaints.

@ This 100%. The more time you spend on this, the better you want to get. Started off w/ 133 hoping to hit mid-150's by October. Now it's August and I'm hoping for 165 in December. Sure can't wait till the 170+ itch hits mid-November.

My road to the perfect LG section

So I'll start by prefacing that I've really been drilling LG hardcore for only the past 3 weeks or so, so not exactly a great deal of time. I followed @Pacifico guide, here's the link for the curious http://classic.7sage.com/discussion/#/discussion/2737/logic-games-attack-strategy and I am definitely seeing an improvement. Granted, I'm going from possibly finishing a game and a half, to at least getting to the fourth, but I'm still having so much difficulty up front. I'm at PT 29 and hope to hit the 60's later this month. My biggest struggle right now is time (surprise). I almost always freeze for almost 8 minutes on any given game figuring out the board, trying to split the board, or figuring out whether the game is rule driven, before finally getting fed up and hitting the questions. Afterwards, I find myself hitting the questions and then by the second or third question the light bulb will turn on while I'm brute forcing my way through and I'll realize the stupid inference I missed and then I'll breeze through the rest. However, those initial wasted minutes are killing me and putting me into panic mode before I barely finish the first game. At this point, I've rarely needed to come back and check out JY's video because I'll realize the inference or issue mid game, but by the time I figure it out, the damage is essentially already done. I was really hoping that by the time I started getting into the post PT 36 games that I'd have a more solid foundation to comfortably move on to the more modern games and not waste any that I could use for full PT. I can't tell at this point if I'm actually improving significantly from when I started drilling LG through this process, or whether it's because I'm starting to hit the modern games. Anyone have any thoughts/advice?

Last Minute Score Drop (RC Issues)

So this is a slight spin off of a different post reading RC. On Sunday I had a huge score drop from my high of 162 back down to 150. My clean copy BR was 176.

The break down was -7/-8 on LR -15 on LG and -14 on RC. LG I completely understood the score drop, a couple of bi-conditionals I wasn't familiar with and caused me to freeze. I BR and I feel fairly confident that if I see these issues again I will know what to do.

However, this is actually reflective of an overall trend I am seeing here. I've seen my LR improve significantly and I am fairly consistent w/ -7/8 and this was certainly and LG outlier and I'm usually seeing -3 or so. But I have just not seen RC improve, and it's stayed roughly -10 since day one. My diagnostic had me at -8 which would have put me at pretty decent shape for test day in Dec.

So far it's been either accuracy or speed. If I go for accuracy, I'm down -13/14. If I'm going for speed I've seen -10. As the PT have progressed I feel like both have steadily gotten worse and I can't tell whether the sections are just actually more difficult or my strategy is getting more and more off-base. Any ideas how to shore this up in the next couple of weeks?

RC Strategy Skipping Passages

So I recently took RC 67 and I saw a relatively large drop in RC score. While I admit that I have paid less focus to RC and this was the first test I really implemented 7Sage/Trainer strategies in my approach, and this may have slowed me down, I also think this set was relatively more difficult. I found myself bogged down in the first few passages and didn't get to the fourth at all, something I haven't done since my diagnostic. Passage 3 was difficult for me and had only 5 questions while Passage 4 had 8 questions that would have been relatively easy points upon my BR.

So my question to you all is, have you found any benefit in skipping around passages and putting some early work into those with the most questions?

I absolutely lost it at " I am alive" the fact that I'm even understanding the humor to this makes me more and more confident.

Hi all, I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts regarding addendums for GPA's that may not necessarily be terrible. Before this last semester I had a 3.93 GPA. Unfortunately this last semester, between taking on an additional course and studying for the LSAT, it dropped to 3.79. I considered my GPA to be a fairly strong point considering I scored a 158 LSAT but now I feel like everything took a hit last semester alongside working full time as a paralegal. I'm wondering if it's worth my time to write an addendum to explain my drop in GPA due to studying for LSAT and work, I feel like since I'm applying part-time, a hectic schedule is what law schools will expect.

Character and Fitness/Personal Statement

Hi, is anyone willing to pass some judgment on my personal statement and a character and fitness addendum.

Pretty personal stuff and I'm willing to have it read by whatever judgmental eyes will read it.

Definitely will exchange statements if anyone else is comfortable. PM me if interested.

Weird/Misc Game drills

Hey guys, what's the consensus on drilling the weird games from the early 90's? I''m not finding that similar inferences come across these games and I don't know if doing one will help with another. However, I understand that these styles of games have been popping up again on modern LSAT's but unless I'm completely missing something here, I'm finding that a lot of intuitive inferences arise from the individual games, but don't parallel across the misc game range. I've been doing them for the sake of flexing some mental muscles here and there, but not necessarily drilling using the Fool Proof Method.

There are certainly differences that arise that's for sure but the fundamentals are the same. Differences mainly being the introduction to comparative readings in RC and substitution equivalency in LG, but mainly it's the same. To put things into perspective for you, I actually thought they were far easier, I was scoring low to mid 150's in the 40's and now 160's in the 60's.

Thanks for the advice, you're probably right, maybe practice some games at the very least but some rest would be great. BTW I think you @ and a couple others, @ and @ all gave me some advice a couple of months ago when I was scoring in low 140's and BR in mid 150's. Tonight's test came to a 163 and a BR at 173. Can't thank you guys enough, excited to see where I can get that to by FEB!

Time between BR and PT

So is order to avoid burnout and a brain drain, I'm curious to see what absorption time you guys give yourself after blind reviewing before starting a new pt session. Today for instance, I've BR and drilled all day since 9 AM, and I'm debating about a PT tonight at 9PM. I'm sure with less then 30 days left til DEC lot of cramming is being done around this time and subjectivity aside, some guidance from the vets would be much appreciated.

Official Dec. LSAT Discussion

Admin's note: Thread hijacking! I'm turning this thread into the Official Dec. LSAT Discussion. Here's some ground rules, taken from my usual sticky:

We know that everyone will be excited to discuss what was on the December '15 LSAT, but mentioning specifics about the test (e.g., "Question 4 was odd" or "I got B for question 6" or "the 3rd LG was sequencing") can get both us and you in a lot of trouble with LSAC.

Saying that the test was hard/easy without going into detail is okay, but anything more specific is not okay. LSAC monitors this forum.

One exception is you can say which section was the experimental. For example, the LG with "flowers" was experimental. That's okay.

TL;DR: PLEASE don't talk specifics about December's LSAT!

Have fun discussing!

So far we've found out:

Real RC - 27 Questions:

– Gender Studies/Women in Rome

– Black National Theater

– Corporate Crime/Punishment

– Lamarack Theory

Real LG - 23 Questions:

– Concerts

– Pottery

– Office

– Committees

Real LR - 25 & 26 Questions:

– Waste Management

– Dolphins/Elephants

– Amber

– Ships in the Ocean

– Lemurs

– Psychic Girl

– Honeybees

– Vaccine X

– Gold Mines

---------------------------------

@dj768083724's original post:

Going to go with LR with question about elephant seals and dolphins experimental.

(Read Dillon's post and think this should be ok to say, sorry in advance if it is not)

BR Timing

Hey guess, know BR timing is really a subjective thing here, I can reasonably spend 45 minutes on a question until I've really understood the question. Alternatively, I can figure out a question the second I finish rereading something that I missed the first leg around. So I'm curious, how long do you take on average to BR a PT?

User Avatar
dj768083724
Tuesday, Jan 05 2016

@ -7 RC which is actually better than I usually do, my average for the last 5 tests have been -10.8. LR was -9 and -6. My average has been -7.7 and LG was -8, my average is -7.2.

All things considered I actually did better than I usually do. I went in with the anticipation I only wanted to take it to have a score and see how I respond to "real" testing conditions. I expected to take February when I started the test but while I'm not satisfied with 158, I know it's decent enough to get me into most part-time programs in the Washington, DC area minus Georgetown.

To BR or not to BR

Happy Gray Day ladies and gentlemen. So I got 158, 3 points above my average. Solid 22 points above my diagnostic but 7 points below my goal.

I'll be debating retake right up until our deadline Friday but in the meantime I was still in the midst of PT and BR.

My question to the community is whether or not to start BR on 77 as I didn't bother looking at any of the answers and I want to eat Game 3 alive.

What are everyone's thoughts? I still have all of the 70 tests to take and I just don't know if it will be worth it quite yet.

So I've had some time to digest everything everyone has said and I've come to the conclusion there is no way that I am going to let this exam kick my ass into next season without me putting up a fight in fall. So, I will take @ 's advice and hold off on PT for now. As much as I wanted to do 3 exams a week, it is realistically not feasible considering I'm not finishing one a week appropriately. At the very least I will hold off until the last week of August. In the meantime, I've looked over @ 's binder strategy and I've killed quite a few trees. I went with 6 games instead of four just to give myself some wiggle room for the harder games. I selected every other LG after PT 20 up until 39 (my last LG section). My LR is still pretty weak so I'll be re watching the fundamentals on each type. While I'm doing that, I've started getting into reading the Trainer at least an hour a night. After I finish each question type video on 7sage for the next few weeks, I've constructed a few of section type drills. 24-26 questions for each question type I am weakest, MSS/MBT, NA, SA, and Flaw from PT 15 -39. I have 3 drills each with just the question type to drill and BR during the week. Finally for the next couple of weekends, because as @.janson35 pointed out, endless drilling may produce false confidence. I've combined a different array of my LR weakness areas randomly into 4 full 26 question section sets to build stamina and identification techniques, while preparing me for sitting through full LSAT. I'm debating whether it may be beneficial to do the same for LG but I'll stick with LR for now. As far as RC is concerned, I think I'll hold off on drilling like @ suggested until I see where I start coming out of LR. Once I can comfortably hit an actual (not BR) accuracy that'll put me into the 165+ range, I can begin PT again, hopefully soon enough to get 20 QUALITY tests under my belt before October.

Wish me luck, everyone. I'll report back with results. Of course, if anyone sees any glaring defects here, please feel free to let me know!

@ Wow.

@ It feels good to keep taking PTs because there appears to be forward momentum but it's not a sound strategy in the long run.

You really hit the nail on the head there. I think that is honestly why I'm in my current situation. I rushed past drilling to get to tests, without having the basics down. I think @.hopkins document would be great to use for drilling.

So I guess my biggest question to you would be, at what point am I prepared to begin PT again. I mean, I already made the mistake of thinking I was prepared, which clearly I am not. How would you gauge that criteria?

@ Awesome! I'll be going part-time which I hear gives a bit more wiggle room for admission, but it can't be much, and it definitely isn't 147 range. I think you're probably right about December, but here's hoping for the next 60 days! See you there buddy!

@ I was thinking of using the analytics tool to examine where my weak areas were, complete the lesson again, and drill the packets. I figured this would be the most efficient use of my time, but I don't know if maybe starting from scratch may be necessary. 60 days until October seems a lot shorter than I thought it would be.

User Avatar

@ First step is admitting there's a problem right? I started creating my own drills using question types from older PT after finishing 7sage. Right now the analytics tool is really showing me flaw, NA, and SA questions are my weakest area. I've improved NA and flaw, but I can't for the life of me seem to bridge the gap with SA questions. I'm going to try to drill those more, any suggestions for a website or forum that may have outlined particular drills? I have all the tests so I don't know if getting the Cambridge packet adds much more other than having questions already sequenced for me. Thank you for your reply and I'll be sure to keep you in mind :)

@

@ Go get the Trainer and see how Mike Kim reads reasoning structure and drill Cambridge RC

After the third exam, I started working on the Trainer. As far as the drills are concerned, I actually have PT 7- 73 on PDF form. Should I try and copy and paste sections to drill, or are the Cambridge packets specifically tailored toward a certain group of questions that I should drill in a particular order with rhyme and reason? I'm definitely leaning toward dropping the PT and going straight into fundamentals and hardcore drilling the next couple of weeks, I'm just concerned that leaves zero time for October LSAT and guaranteeing that December is my only go to. I wanted to take advantage of rolling admissions with a decent LSAT score to get into Georgetown in Fall 2016.

Reevaluating Study Strategy and Goals

So just bombed my fourth PT and I think it's about time I reevaluate my timeline and goals in here. Mid 160's is my target but I can't seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel here. So far my PT have been embarrassing at best. My initial diagnostic was 146. I've taken PT 36 - 39. So far I've gotten 133 (Didn't even think that was possible), 141, 146, and 147. I started the course in April and finished a couple of weeks ago and just started PT. Thing is, my BR has been comparably much better, in fact, probably right where I'd like to end up at. I've BR at 150, 156, 168, and 162. On RC I'm averaging -11.5 on LR I'm -14 and LG I'm -17. On BR for RC I'm -5, on LR I'm -7, and LG -8. A lot of these are really brought down by my first test where I pretty much locked up like a deer in headlights. But still, I'm thinking tempted to start from scratch here. Thing is, when I come back for BR, even for the ones I get wrong on BR, I'm seeing very clearly where I was wrong and most of the time, the right answer is the one I struggled with debating for. It leads me to believe there is something that's sunk in. I just don't know if this means I should continue PT and BR to a greater extent to work on timing and understanding the stimulus quickly, or if I should come back to the fundamentals of the course again before taking any more exams. Even since my first PT I've noticed a difference, especially in LG where I am at least completing a couple of games, but I'm nowhere where I thought I would be with 60 days until October. At this point, I'm thinking I should push this out till December. I'm already working full time and I'll be starting school at the end of this month. If anyone could help me gauge the mess I've made here, it'd be much appreciated.
