Oops I did mine in 11 point font. Is it a big deal if I don't use 12? :( Haven't turned it in yet but it was so hard to cut down on.

Lol I based it all off of this link off Google http://blog.spiveyconsulting.com/application-instructions-top-50-law-schools-ps-length-and-optional-essay/

@ Thanks for the advice - just saw your post!!! Yeah I think I've been reading too many TLS posts where they break down the years it takes to pay off the loans and the bleak future of all your paychecks going over to mortgage/loans. I'm also working at a big law firm right now and personally would only be content working those long hours if my bank was loaded, not if it was all going to loans.

Difficult decisions!!!! I think I won't ED NU but will instead try to get in first and then worry about $$. Thanks everyone!!!

@ Divine

Yeah I'm definitely not doing academia so I'm not even considering HYS because of the loans, but good luck to you!!! It definitely makes a lot of sense for you though.

Would you say I'd have to be significantly above the 75th percentile LSAT/GPA to get good scholarships? Also I was looking into the grants for different schools and it seems that not many offer more than 10-20k per year, which is why I was concerned about other schools.

@ Yeah, I was calculating it and it'd actually still be around $100,000 in total that I'd have to take loans, which is still way better than $200-255k. On other forums, I read that once your in with ED, no school will really offer you much more money because they've already got you. You should definitely give it a shot even if your GPA is low - I'm pretty sure NU seems to weigh LSAT more?

@ thanks for your feedback!

I'm slightly above NU's 75th percentile LSAT and a little less than its 75th percentile GPA - so I'm not a candidate they'd necessarily be fighting to win. That's why I'm not confident I'd even get inED - just contemplating it.

For NYU in particular, I have an okay shot at getting in but I definitely do not think my numbers are high enough for a full tuition scholarship (I was looking into AnBryce but it's really competitive).

I guess my assumption is I'd have to be over the 75th percentile GPA & LSAT to score a scholarship as good as $150k, which is why I'm starting to lean towards these ED programs now. I'm not an URM since I'm Asian, and my financial situations are difficult - but a lot of people's are, so I can't rely on aid grants.

Like everyone else here I'm worried about the loans, and I was looking into the early decision full tuition programs, like the one at Northwestern University. Ideally, I wanted to attend school in NYC or Philly, but the chances of getting a really good scholarship are looking slimmer by the minute.

I actually don't know much about Northwestern (other than it's a great school and it's brutally cold in the winter), so I'd obviously look into it a lot more and try to visit the campus before making such an important decision. On the surface though, I was wondering if anyone had any insight on whether or not it's worth it, or whether it's better to see what kind of financial aid/scholarships I could receive.

Thanks!

PT 70, Section 2, Question 6

Hi,

On this question I narrowed it down to C and D. But even though I've read a couple explanations on it, I don't see why D is glaringly wrong. I feel like C isn't fair enough because it has words like "chance" and "try to identify" which means that either way, some people will probably be left out and it still won't be fair. But in D, if everyone gets denied the rebate, then no one gets it, which means no one has an unfair opportunity.

I just couldn't find a helpful explanation because everyone just rules D off as "obviously unfair," and I guess I'm feeling kind of blind right now!!!!

drilling?

Hi everyone,

So I've been studying for 3 months and not really seeing too many patterns in LR or even LG. I'm going to start the foolproof method for LG, but I needed help drilling for LR. I don't want to buy the cambridge packets because I've already spent too much money on prep...is there another, efficient way to drill LR question types?

Personal Statement edit

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone had a couple minutes to look over my personal statement. I've gotten a couple friends to look at it and I have changed it multiple times (drastically). I was just hoping to have someone with a fresh POV to check it out.

I'm willing to edit your personal statement in return! I was an English major in undergrad so I can guarantee great grammar skills. In terms of personal statement expertise though, I'm no expert but I can do my best to help you out.

Thank you so much!

Going back to this old thread - I also am strongly interested (not 100% sure yet) in health law and am just wondering more about the opportunities available at each school. I understand firms would still hire a Harvard over a Georgetown (with rankings in mind) though Georgetown ranks higher in health law, but would I be less prepared for a health law career if I went somewhere that's not ranked high in health law?

I have a similar question - I requested my transcript shortly before I graduated last year (& ended up taking the year off) so my LSAC report has all of my grades and the correct GPA, but it doesn't have my academic honors or say I graduated.

Do I have to request a new transcript?

Science Experiments in LR Questions

Powerscore claims that recently PTs have had a lot more science experiment questions in LR. I've obviously taken a bunch of science classes and know the basics, but I still think it's weird to see these scenarios in the LSAT world.

For example, on PT 71 Section 3 #4, E is the right answer because it shows that there is a control group, and every study should have a control group. Though I know this, I wouldn't think that really counts as strengthening.......but I guess it shows that the experiment is a good one.

Either way, whenever a science experiment shows up, should I be checking to see that all/most requirements of a good science experiment are mentioned? I don't know if my question makes sense haha but I'm trying to find a general approach for the future

kind of lost!!!

so basically I've been studying since May, but I made a mistake and was practicing with really old tests. So until last week, I was getting around 168-169 and a couple 170+ .....but then recently (right after the September 11 deadline to change test date) I tried the recent tests and my scores have dropped by a lot erratically. I know it's my fault - I was dumb and was practicing with ancient tests so I know what I did wrong there, but I wanted some advice on moving forward

I have to take the October test now but I'll cancel my score (which sucks), but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong??? I feel like I forgot everything I've learned, and I still haven't established "habits" on any of the sections. Every time I get good at a section type, I feel like I forgot everything in the other sections!!! I don't know how to explain this but I just feel stupid

How do you guys organize your weeks with PTing and reviewing content? I've been PTing and BRing 3 times a week, but I still haven't established habits that come naturally. Under the time pressure, I always forget to do VERY important things, like identify the conclusion or find the flaw before moving on to answer choices! Especially with the recent tests, I go back to being a beginner when timing myself

I'm not sure how to overcome this difference because I drink coffee and get the sleep, but I don't want to face this on test day. I mean, how long am I supposed to be awake before PTing?

I was expecting to be in the 165 plateau for a while but now it's been too long - I've been here since August! I know I must be doing something wrong. Recently I've been drilling LG and I BR my tests, but what's the most effective strategy to take in this last month and half I have left? Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone had helpful tips on attending info sessions/tours. I know it's not an interview but I read somewhere that some admissions teams briefly take note of your behavior sometimes.

Should we be dressing in business professional or business casual? Also, should I bring resumes to law school fairs just in case?

Identifying scope/relevance

This is kind of a dumb question and I feel like no one else has this problem, but I've realized I constantly make mistakes identifying the scope or relevance of an AC on logical reasoning (RC too). If I'm choosing between two answer choices, I'll choose the more tempting one and later realize it was out of scope, and the right AC was really subtle.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this/exercises I can try/lessons I should focus on? I think I read carefully but I really don't know how far away I can go from the scope of the stimulus

1.Your three-sentence biography.

I was born and raised here by immigrant parents and I have always had trouble balancing both cultures - though I love both cultures. Though my parents work 60-70 hour weeks, We've had some serious financial issues for about half of my life now and it has significantly influenced who I am today, introducing me to a difficult and independent lifestyle early.

2.Your biggest worry about your application.

I'm happy with my recent LSAT score but I bombed my previous take due to health reasons. I'll be submitting an addendum but I have to really shine in everything else to persuade them to overlook that disaster.

3.Two ideas for your personal statement.

A) Our financial issues introduced me to my interest in the law and the arts. Because of our financial issues and since my parents are immigrants, I started communicating with attorneys early on, since they wouldn't take my dad's broken English seriously. I explained a lot of legal terminology to my parents & helped them with lots of specific paperwork I don't want to talk about here. This sparked my interest in the law, leading me to take classes and intern at a pro bono place (where I could relate, because my parents couldn't afford attorneys to defend us). On the other hand, I also got a little depressed b/c of our financial problems and to cope, started turning to the arts - drawing, painting, etc. I now sell these drawings online and I'm mentally healthier again.

B) Not another idea, but I'm considering cutting the idea above in half. Both halves mean a lot to me though, so I didn't want to let the art part go because I thought it shows a side of me my resume doesn't.

4.Did you attend last time? Did I get to you?

Didn't attend last time but I'm happy I can this time! Thank you for this opportunity!

So I cancelled my October score and I'm looking to kill it in December. That being said, I want my score to go up by at least 7 points in these two months and crack 170....

I know some people study 6 hours a day, and I was just wondering...what do you do for all that time? All I do right now is take a full practice test 3 times a week, and do a BR of the practice test the day after I take it. And I take one day off every week. Sometimes when I see I need help in an area, I review the lessons on it.

But I don't know what else I should be doing? I know I have to do much more Logic Games so I'll work on that, but I feel like I'm missing something important because I don't study 6 hours a day...!!!!

LOR & Waiting for December results

Hi,

So I'm waiting for my LSAT results like everyone else, and I'm wondering what to be doing about my apps in the meantime. Depending on my December score, I will either apply this cycle or wait this one out.

Is it okay if my professors submit their LORs this month, and I just apply with these same LORs next year? Or would I have to ask them again next year to submit another one if I don't apply this cycle?

I don't know if my question makes sense but basically I don't know how to respond to my Professors' questions because I don't know for sure what I'm doing yet.

I think it's hard to tell when you're nervous sometimes. For one of the sections my mind was literally numb - I was reading fine and my heart wasn't beating fast but my brain wasn't feeling very sharp. Hence, though I completed all the questions, I reverted to falling into traps as I would during my early stage of prep. I'm in the same situation as you (bombed my Dec test), but I've decided to rethink my mindset rather than study method. If you're PTing where you want, you may be studying right but something else is off. If you have to take Feb, figure out what went wrong (psychologically) as ^ said and you'll be fine

Newer reading comp

So I used to be averaging around -2 to -4 on the older RC passages but for some reason with most of the 50+ ones I've been taking, I always get around -7 to -9. I've been trying to change my method and lengthen the time I read the passage (used to do 2 minutes, trying for 3.5 now). Is it better for me to continue working on adapting to this new method, or stick to my old one? Or are the new ones just a little different and need some more time to adjust to?

Also, I didn't have much luck finding tips on comparative passages on the discussion board (probably didn't look far enough), so if anyone knows a link to suggestions on these that would help immensely!

Thank you!

I feel the same way as you. I scored 12 points below my constant average, and ended up with a score only 4 points above my diagnostic. If I'd gotten my average I'd be in my top law school, but anxiety hit me like a bus. We just gotta wipe our tears and move forward knowing we are intellectually prepared but just have to get mentally/emotionally/psychologically prepared now!!! Everything happens for a reason, and maybe this take around we can all get awesome scholarships as well. I'd be down to BR with anyone with a positive thought process

Vocabulary

Hi everyone,

I took a couple RC (and even LR) sections recently, and noticed that I made 70% of my mistakes because I did not fully understand the meaning, or alternate meanings, to key words in the passages or question stems. I'm an English major, so I thought I had a strong grasp of vocab but now I just feel kind of stupid. I've started noting down these words and will try to expand my vocabulary on the side, but I was wondering - have any of you encountered this problem? Are there any techniques you could suggest to overcome this?

Thank you so much for any advice!

PT 23 Section 3 Question 12

Sooooo inferences are usually much more clear and this one is giving me a lot of trouble. I gave B a considerable amount of thought, but I felt like it's a flaw because it goes from health food enthusiasts to saying in general, those who take XYZ will lower chances of heart disease. And I saw that the researchers corrected for differences in health habits, but I still felt like I'd be making some sort of assumption by picking B.

That being said, I didn't like D or E much either because I felt D is really broad. For E, this is the one I chose because although I thought it shouldn't be going from XYZ to general "large daily doses of vitamins," I thought it was the best option available

What am I missing here!
