You all are so positive!!!! I think I've been spending too much time on TLS and it's crushing my self-esteem.

Yale 250?

First of all, Yale is *completely* [completely] out of my reach but I have a nice cousin who wants me to try and is helping me pay the app fee...so here's to money going down the drain.

Would anyone be down to edit my Yale 250? I would love to edit yours in return. I know this won't affect my chances too much because my numbers are already borderline, but I still don't want to submit a bad essay.

Thanks!

Oops I did mine in 11 point font. Is it a big deal if I don't use 12? :( Haven't turned it in yet but it was so hard to cut down on.

Lol I based it all off of this link off Google http://blog.spiveyconsulting.com/application-instructions-top-50-law-schools-ps-length-and-optional-essay/

I know he's really good but I'm working on about 5 optional essays so that doesn't work with any of the admissions packages available. Thanks though.

Who are you guys getting to check out these essays? I'm on a budget and can't pay for someone to check all of these essays, but my college's pre-law center is practically useless and says everything is fine. I'm low key (high key) freaking out because I wanted to submit these this weekend.

I had a related question to this. I decided to postpone applying and am applying this cycle now, but my professor wants to update some info on my letter now. There's no way to resubmit the letter, so am I supposed to delete him as a recommender and request him again? Thanks!

Addendum

Can someone read my LSAT addendum? I'm going to keep it really brief but I just feel like my score differences are shocking enough to puzzle admissions.

Attending tours & info sessions

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone had helpful tips on attending info sessions/tours. I know it's not an interview but I read somewhere that some admissions teams briefly take note of your behavior sometimes.

Should we be dressing in business professional or business casual? Also, should I bring resumes to law school fairs just in case?

Thank you!!!!!

@connollykev567 Thanks for the advice - just saw your post!!! Yeah I think I've been reading too many TLS posts where they break down the years it takes to pay off the loans and the bleak future of all your paychecks going over to mortgage/loans. I'm also working at a big law firm right now and personally would only be content working those long hours if my bank was loaded, not if it was all going to loans.

Difficult decisions!!!! I think I won't ED NU but will instead try to get in first and then worry about $$. Thanks everyone!!!

Thank you for the info! That website is really helpful (and also slightly depressing)

@alejoroarios925 Divine

Yeah I'm definitely not doing academia so I'm not even considering HYS because of the loans, but good luck to you!!! It definitely makes a lot of sense for you though.

Would you say I'd have to be significantly above the 75th percentile LSAT/GPA to get good scholarships? Also I was looking into the grants for different schools and it seems that not many offer more than 10-20k per year, which is why I was concerned about other schools.

@mattdarephd78 Yeah, I was calculating it and it'd actually still be around $100,000 in total that I'd have to take loans, which is still way better than $200-255k. On other forums, I read that once your in with ED, no school will really offer you much more money because they've already got you. You should definitely give it a shot even if your GPA is low - I'm pretty sure NU seems to weigh LSAT more?

@connollykev567 thanks for your feedback!

I'm slightly above NU's 75th percentile LSAT and a little less than its 75th percentile GPA - so I'm not a candidate they'd necessarily be fighting to win. That's why I'm not confident I'd even get inED - just contemplating it.

For NYU in particular, I have an okay shot at getting in but I definitely do not think my numbers are high enough for a full tuition scholarship (I was looking into AnBryce but it's really competitive).

I guess my assumption is I'd have to be over the 75th percentile GPA & LSAT to score a scholarship as good as $150k, which is why I'm starting to lean towards these ED programs now. I'm not an URM since I'm Asian, and my financial situations are difficult - but a lot of people's are, so I can't rely on aid grants.

Like everyone else here I'm worried about the loans, and I was looking into the early decision full tuition programs, like the one at Northwestern University. Ideally, I wanted to attend school in NYC or Philly, but the chances of getting a really good scholarship are looking slimmer by the minute.

I actually don't know much about Northwestern (other than it's a great school and it's brutally cold in the winter), so I'd obviously look into it a lot more and try to visit the campus before making such an important decision. On the surface though, I was wondering if anyone had any insight on whether or not it's worth it, or whether it's better to see what kind of financial aid/scholarships I could receive.

Thanks!

Going back to this old thread - I also am strongly interested (not 100% sure yet) in health law and am just wondering more about the opportunities available at each school. I understand firms would still hire a Harvard over a Georgetown (with rankings in mind) though Georgetown ranks higher in health law, but would I be less prepared for a health law career if I went somewhere that's not ranked high in health law?

I have a similar question - I requested my transcript shortly before I graduated last year (& ended up taking the year off) so my LSAC report has all of my grades and the correct GPA, but it doesn't have my academic honors or say I graduated.

Do I have to request a new transcript?

As much as a I reaaaaally wish I could sign up for the 7sage Admissions course (I thought the David Busis webinar was very helpful), I don't know if I can because I dropped so much $$$$ on the LSAT already, and now I have to save for apps.

I've been trying to find a cheaper alternative online but don't have much luck. Does anyone know any websites that edit for an affordable price?

1.Your three-sentence biography.

I was born and raised here by immigrant parents and I have always had trouble balancing both cultures - though I love both cultures. Though my parents work 60-70 hour weeks, We've had some serious financial issues for about half of my life now and it has significantly influenced who I am today, introducing me to a difficult and independent lifestyle early.

2.Your biggest worry about your application.

I'm happy with my recent LSAT score but I bombed my previous take due to health reasons. I'll be submitting an addendum but I have to really shine in everything else to persuade them to overlook that disaster.

3.Two ideas for your personal statement.

A) Our financial issues introduced me to my interest in the law and the arts. Because of our financial issues and since my parents are immigrants, I started communicating with attorneys early on, since they wouldn't take my dad's broken English seriously. I explained a lot of legal terminology to my parents & helped them with lots of specific paperwork I don't want to talk about here. This sparked my interest in the law, leading me to take classes and intern at a pro bono place (where I could relate, because my parents couldn't afford attorneys to defend us). On the other hand, I also got a little depressed b/c of our financial problems and to cope, started turning to the arts - drawing, painting, etc. I now sell these drawings online and I'm mentally healthier again.

B) Not another idea, but I'm considering cutting the idea above in half. Both halves mean a lot to me though, so I didn't want to let the art part go because I thought it shows a side of me my resume doesn't.

4.Did you attend last time? Did I get to you?

Didn't attend last time but I'm happy I can this time! Thank you for this opportunity!

Choosing a topic for PS

I'm an old 7Sager who's (f i n a l l y) done with the LSAT but has returned for some much needed advice on personal statements! I've started writing four or five different statements, but I've hated all of them. I know I just missed an opportunity recently with the seminar thing, but does anyone have advice on narrowing down personal statement topics? As in, what to avoid? It's too early for me to spend money on an essay editing service, because I don't even like it myself!

I think it's hard to tell when you're nervous sometimes. For one of the sections my mind was literally numb - I was reading fine and my heart wasn't beating fast but my brain wasn't feeling very sharp. Hence, though I completed all the questions, I reverted to falling into traps as I would during my early stage of prep. I'm in the same situation as you (bombed my Dec test), but I've decided to rethink my mindset rather than study method. If you're PTing where you want, you may be studying right but something else is off. If you have to take Feb, figure out what went wrong (psychologically) as ^ said and you'll be fine

I feel the same way as you. I scored 12 points below my constant average, and ended up with a score only 4 points above my diagnostic. If I'd gotten my average I'd be in my top law school, but anxiety hit me like a bus. We just gotta wipe our tears and move forward knowing we are intellectually prepared but just have to get mentally/emotionally/psychologically prepared now!!! Everything happens for a reason, and maybe this take around we can all get awesome scholarships as well. I'd be down to BR with anyone with a positive thought process

Soooo I just bombed my dec test - haven't seen this score for like 7 months - and (after a couple hours of despair) was wondering if anyone has anymore input on test anxiety. I never had it before so it came as a huge surprise day of, and my mind just went numb and I wasn't thinking for most of it. I'm okay with where I was averaging, so I just want to get rid of the fear. Since I have a couple months till my last retake, what would you advise I add to my daily routine? I work out and eat decently - will cut out sugars though and try to start meditating
