Looking to locate a specific RC passage?

NVM I FOUND IT, for anyone looking for a difficult RC passage it was PT 67 S1 P2.

Hey guys! I'm looking to locate a specific RC passage and really don't have much to go on - guess I'm hoping someone else will be able to recognize it lol.

I believe it was in the 60s or 70s and it was written like a journal or about someones journal or something, I think it was about a Chinese author? Anyways that's very limited information, the reason I'm looking for this passage is because it was ABSTRACT AF. Like there was BARELY any structure and it was notorious for this.

If anyone recognizes the description and wants to share any passages that it might be, do comment down below!

I realize this isn't a lot to go on so thanks to anyone who comments!

Trouble linking prep plus?

I lost my credit card over the weekend and wasn't able to access problem sets so I attributed it to that. After receiving my new card and updating payment info on 7Sage I am still unable to access problem sets because 7Sage is saying my Prep Plus account is not linked, when I click 'link my account' it takes me to prep plus and says that it is linked?

I'd love to get back to studying haha, has anyone experienced this before?

Long story short I may need to consider the 5 attempts within 5 years limit and am writing up the appeal now.

The exam I am looking to appeal is a canceled score because I couldn't perform that day due to a medical episode, but it was too late to withdraw because the 24 hour period had passed.

Would love someone to give it a once over if they have time!

@ thanks! I tried skipping straight to 16-25 and I actually ended up doing worse lol. I wondered if it was because I was so focused on getting through them? Maybe I should give it another try though.

While keeping track of my errors in LR I notice I'm more prone to making errors in questions that I would typically get right (PSA, SA, PF, PR) when those questions are at the end of the section.

Notwithstanding the fact that being at the end of the section can sometimes indicate that a question type can be harder, I personally find my issue is that these Q types require a lot of mental power to keep tedious information organized, more than other Q types (maybe because they can sometimes be heavy on conditional logic, not really sure?)

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has tried hunting for specific question types and if they would recommend that strategy to me? I wonder if this would be beneficial to get the 'formulaic' questions (like the parallel reasoning/flaw) out of the way while my brain is in the mood to tackle them properly. I recently got a 3 star PSA question wrong and was kicking myself in BR, I can't figure out why I would have selected the AC that I selected and can only conclude it was because I was fatigued.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Looking for advice

Hey all! I'm just looking for a bit of advice for my situation.

I'm a Canadian applicant (Ontario) and my applications will be due November 1st, but I can take the LSAT up until January 2022.

I am going into my third cycle of applications, and while my situation is different this time around I can't help but feel like I shouldn't apply this year since I don't have the score I need on file - I'm registered for November's test.

Both previous cycles that I applied for were a rush for me, I hadn't even broken a 160 and that was the score I needed, I was clearly applying very prematurely lol. This time around - my latest PT was a 165 and I'm working with a tutor, so the way I've approached the exam is very different.

Anyways, I told myself that if I'm applying this year I need to reconnect with my professors by October 1st so that they have sufficient time to re-upload their LOR's but I am realizing and panicking now because that's next week lol.

I guess what I'm getting at is - I feel like I'm doing the same thing over again which has only ever resulted in failure. While my capabilities and score is much different this time around, I still have anxieties about applying without a score. When I'm weighing my options though, it doesn't seem worth it to take another entire year off when I am scoring above my goal?

Just looking for anyone else who may have helpful advice to offer!

High Scorer Tips for LG Thread!

Hi Sagers! I'm looking to nail LG for my exam in October. I'm at a point where I can usually score between -3 to -5 but want to get that down to -1/-2 consistently. I have been watching the demo's of 7Sagers perform on a game while JY critiques and noticed how clean their diagram is + how they thoughtfully approach each rule.

I feel I am getting a bit overconfident and sloppy with my setups and could learn from a higher scorer. I'd love to start a thread for tips from high scorers on strategies you implemented that changed LG for you. Could be as simple as writing neatly and clearly, or more complex. All tips welcomed!

On a side note - I am experiencing a superficial difficulty when seeing a 'new' logic game from a section I haven't taken before, it tends to freak me out... Any tips on how to get over this? Maybe I just need to practice more new games?

Is the difference between AC B / D that AC D is assuming the only way to have rodents make up most individual mammals is by there being one species of rodents with a large number of individual members? Rather than there being a few species' of rodents that make up that majority of members together?

I guess in the second world it could be true that a different mammal species outnumbers one of there rodent species, while the number of rodents in total still outnumber all the mammals?

Hey all! I have a really close relationship with both my professors who wrote me absolutely GLOWING letters of rec. Unfortunately I am on my third cycle of applications, I will likely be reaching out to my professors in September to ask if they can resubmit, wondering if anyone else has had to do this and how you went about it? They are really supportive so I'm sure it won't be an issue but for some reason I can't shake that feeling of embarrassment & am not sure how to word the email.

Would appreciate any advice!

Took the Jan LSAT and was going -0 on games for the past 5 PTs!

Having major anxiety waiting for my score, and I figured helping someone else out could help me with my own practice incase my journey isn't over lol.

If interested, message with the following: your name, average on each section, and what time zone you're in! :)

Two star flaw help (lol) - PT 88.S4.Q10

I feel silly for getting this two star flaw question wrong in timed and in BR lol. I actually pre-phrased both answers which is why I found this one so difficult.

When I read the stimulus the first issue I noted was that we have no context about what the number of fatalities mean relative to how many people climbed the mountain/are on the roads every day. Maybe there were only 200 people who attempted to climb Mount Everest over a span of 80 years, given that it’s one of the most dangerous in the world, in that sense, nearly every person who tried to climb it died! This would make it seem pretty dangerous.

What drew me to AC E is that the argument does address a generalization flaw? It concludes that 'mountain climbing dangerous have been exaggerated' and appeals to evidence based on death tolls for one of the most dangerous mountains. How does AC E not address this issue?

After analyzing the Q this the only explanation I can come up with: even if we knew numbers about other mountain fatalities, we are still lacking the relevant context about what those numbers would mean in terms of how dangerous those mountains are. (ie: how many people climbed those mountains, was it enough to make the danger factor lower or higher).

Would appreciate if someone could let me know if these thoughts are correct! I'd love to not waste time on two star flaw questions lol. I guess I'm still left confused because, in some sense, wouldn't you need to know data on other mountains to come to such a general conclusion?

As I was ready to go into the AC's I couldn't help but notice the generalization from one of the most dangerous mountains to 'mountain climbing dangers have been over exaggerated'. Is this a generalization flaw?

That got me thinking... what are other mountain climbing fatalities like? Wouldn't we need to know the death toll on those in order to say anything about mountain climbing in general?

I'm coming to the conclusion that the reason mountains in general isn't relevant is because even if we knew those numbers I guess we are still lacking the context about what those mean relative to how dangerous a mountain is.

Would appreciate if someone could let me know if these thoughts are correct!

I think I thought AC A was suggesting that the athletic ability is a family life (environmental) factor, but we just don't have enough information to know that. It could be genetics!

It makes more sense that AC A would be referring to genetics anyways, because if the AC were referring to family as the environmental factor wouldn't it be weird that only some of the kids play and the others don't?

0

Could someone help me understand how AC E counters the city officials response?

On another note, I have a tendency to want to set off either the sufficient condition, or contrapose the necessary for 'if' statements in order to prove that they will work, but is that even required for a weaken question or is the 'if' possibility of an idea taking place enough to weaken an argument?

Thanks!

Thank you all for the kind comments! I took some time away from RC. When I did come back I made sure to start with a passage that I had done before, and that makes me feel empowered.

I felt like it was important to start things off on a good note in order to affirm my strengths. Back at it and ready to kill it in January! Always grateful for this supportive community. :)

Looking for an RC study buddy!

I'm looking to nail down my RC score, I just took a full timed section and went -8 on the whole thing. I don't feel it was my best performance (I was tired and my dog started barking midway through lol).

Anyways, I feel I could use some accountability here and am interested to see if there is anyone scoring within the same range (I feel like I usually score between -7 to -4) who would be interested in a weekly zoom session where we briefly discuss the passage and then go through BR together to pound out some reasoning and challenge each others POV's! Ideally I'm looking to form a group with no more than two others as I want to make the zoom calls pretty efficient. :)

I'm in Canada (EST) an I'd be hoping to meet one day a week in the morning/afternoon - just not evenings! I'll be taking the October exam and I'm currently working with RC in the 30s.

How to get out of your head?

I got in my head after taking PT 85 last week and have been regressing ever since... I had been scoring low to mid 160s and scored a 157 on that PT. Since then I have been making sloppy errors and am second guessing if I'm even reading things correctly.

The January LSAT is in one month and I can't afford to lose focus or confidence in my abilities! Does anyone have any advice for staying laser focused on your test-taking process even when you start to doubt yourself?

For the future - if any AC says 'rejects a few solely on the grounds'

it could only be the right AC if that is the only type of premise supporting the argument? Ie: if there is another premise it's wrong.

How to sleep the night before the LSAT?

Title says it all lol. I sit tomorrow and had a nightmare about logic games last night, and the night before dreamt I ran out of time.

Ironically, logic games is my best section and I’m not nearly as nervous as I have been in past LSAT administrations, but could seriously do without these pesky nightmares on LSAT eve. 😇

Thank you for this! I took a PT last week and felt like I had not performed my best on a section, it turns out that I didn't perform my best on that section; but I was still able to achieve my goal score by making it up in the other two.

A reminder that each new section is a new opportunity to perform and try your very best, giving up in the middle of the exam because you feel like you may have performed poorly is how the LSAT writers win!

Good luck everyone!

Tips for flaw questions?

Hey all!

I've been working really hard on LR and am seeing a lot of improvement so far, however one area that I am still having a lot of difficulty with is in flaw questions...

I have been practicing with the two step test when I can't identify the flaw, but for whatever reason I find it very easy to gaslight my own reasoning with these wrong answer choices, than in comparison to other question types' wrong answer choices.

Any advice on being able to find the right answer even when you don't spot the flaw would be much appreciated!

Hi all!

Looking to hear some info from other Ontario applicants! I know the last LSAT accepted by most schools is in January, and there are seemingly different opinions on waiting until then based on a significant amount of offers going out in Nov/Dec.

I personally know 3 people who wrote in January (none of them had widely high LSAT scores either!), who were accepted for that coming September to one or multiple schools. It seems that the January administration is becoming more and more acceptable for applicants and so I am interested in hearing the perspectives of others as I contemplate moving my November exam to get that extra month or two of practice!

I find that I can overwhelm myself, when there is no reason to be overwhelmed, for questions dealing with a lot of different variables. They typically manifest in: studies consisting of numbers/percentages, rising/lowering of levels (usually these appear physiologically), etc.

For instance, I took PT 89 and completely overwhelmed myself on 89.S4.Q23 (strengthening question about turmeric). In BR I was kicking myself because, had I stayed calm, organized and kept track of all the variables...I could have gotten it right!

Do you have a different method of approach for stimuli where you feel there's 'a lot' going on?

#help Sorry if I made a dumb mistake (but who knows it may help someone else!) is the reason that AC A is correct because the 29% means: 29% of the total 38%?

ie: that would translate to a really small percentage of students in residence W taking night class, which means that we would have to make up for it by having more than 38% of students in residence P take night classes.

I delayed a cycle...two actually lol. It wasn't by choice but I wish it were, I think the universe really was looking out for me haha.

I tried to rush into the LSAT when I wasn't ready, it actually ended up doing more harm than I thought because I didn't get the score I wanted and it really crushed my confidence.

In hindsight I think it takes a lot of personal power to give yourself the time you need - but I think it will be a lot less stressful!

Approaching MSS/Inference questions in RC?

a majority of my RC wrong answers are coming from these questions, like upwards of 5 lol. I feel like the reason I'm crossing off AC's is because it's not 'clicking' for WHY it could be supported. Does anyone have any advice on being more lenient with the correct answer choices?

I'm having trouble finding the balance of where to be lenient and where to be strict. Would love to fine tune this a little more before next weeks exam. :)

PT91.S4.Q17

This is the only question in passage set that I can't seem to resolve on my own. I was caught between AC C and E, ended up picking E timed and C in BR.

C) I thought it seemed likely that Sibley would think a good goal is to simply the classification systems by reducing the total number, because in paragraph 3 he talks about how there are too many criteria's complicating the species classification.

ie: "We must limit the number of degrees we choose to 'recognize' by names"

E) This seemed likely to me because of the arguments going on in paragraph 3, it just didn't seem like an easy issue to resolve so it seemed likely that disagreements would continue; especially given the fact that the critics seemed more concerned with the interpretation of Sibley's data rather than the procedure of it. ie: if more techniques like Sibely's are refined, they would still take issue with the arbitrary interpretation.

I just couldn't find a reason to eliminate C and direct support for E!

@ hey I know this is late but maybe it could help someone else!

I was confused about 22 as well...here's my take!

The question is asking us to strengthen the claim that the increasing number of species would probably increase the number needing protection.

On first glance I'm sort of wondering, why would they need protection?

A) I picked this one initially but now that I am looking at it again I don't think it does anything. I don't think we've yet clarified that these species are endangered? Or that an increasing number of species would be? So why would a difficulty in enacting international agreements for protecting these types of species strengthen the authors claim.

B - C) I really had no idea what either of these did, they just seemed sort of random.

D) Alright so if advanced in techniques like DNA-DNA hybrid probably FAVOUR the efforts of splitters, perhaps we have more species? But does this mean they will need protection? Not really sure.

E) Proponents of the phylogenetic species concept (aka the splitters) are less likely to contest an est. species classification (and what is the established species classification? Well according to P1 it's lumping), if none of the biological populations involved is endangered.

Alright so taking the contrapositive:

if splitters are more or equally likely to oppose lumping (the current practice), then SOME of the populations involved are endangered!

This is what made it click for me. I think the key issue is that we really didn't know if these species need protection...so if they increased, what would make it so that they do need protection? AC E tells us that at least some will be endangered.

Someone jump in if they think I've analyzed anything wrong!

What did you think of PT 91?

Just took PT 91, I scored around my average (164) but went -11 on RC, when I usually fall between -6 and -4.

I personally thought RC was more difficult, but that seems like an unfair judgment since it's BECAUSE I didn't do well on it lol.

Just thought I'd check with the community since there aren't a lot of stats about it! Trying not to let that RC score get me with my exam right around the corner.

I feel like when JY says that they aren't necessarily recurring it's because they aren't a cookie cutter game format, like grouping or sequencing, but IMO I think there are still valuable lessons to be learned from them, like: learning how to react when you see a game you don't understand, or utilizing some of the more novel games to practice understanding obscure rules and trying to see if you can figure out what exactly it means.

I have personally found a really helpful exercise to be practicing setting up the game board and representing rules correctly, even if I don't feel like attempting the whole game. :)

PT90 S4 Q11- How would you translate this?

I'm having trouble figuring out what AC B from PT90 S4 Q11 is saying. I watched JY's explanation so I now know what it means to say, but I'm not sure how I would have figured this out on my own? Usually punctuation marks would be on my side to help parse it out, but I find it peculiar that there weren't any because I really think this sentence could be read two ways?

The original AC says:

"Infants who consume cow’s milk that has not been boiled frequently contract potentially fatal gastrointestinal infections"

  • The way I read it was: Infants who [consume cow’s milk that has not been boiled frequently] contract potentially fatal gastrointestinal infections.
  • In this circumstance I'm reading the frequently as referring to the milk
  • OR

  • Infants who [consume cow's milk that has not been boiled] frequently contract potentially fatal gastrointestinal infections
  • In this one however, I'm reading the frequently as referentially phrasing the infants rather than the milk.
  • Let me know if that makes sense and what sort of queues I could look out for to read this sentence right! I just find it difficult because there is no punctuation swaying you either way?

    142 -> 161 😭

Dear LSAC thanks for letting me kick your ass this January!!! 161 and couldn't be prouder!!

A 161 may seem like a mediocre score to many, but my goal was always a 160; and I managed to surpass it on test day. This was my fifth attempt at the LSAT and it really became a psychological battle for me.

    My first score in 2019 was a 149; Jan 2020 cancelled; Feb 2020 151; Jan 2021 150.

To say that I was devastated in Jan 2021, when I scored a point lower than what I had scored a year prior, would be a hasty understatement. At that point I really did not believe I could do it. To have to get back on the horse, and start studying for something that felt hugely out of reach was really difficult. I didn't know what to tell my friends, family, and I felt like all my aspirations were about to go down the drain.

My only regret is not meeting my tutor @"Chris Nguyen" sooner. I wasn’t sold on spending money on private tutoring; but Chris knows how to identify the way his students learn best, and matches that in every session. Sounds cheesy - bur Chris truly taught me how to believe in myself again, he changed this whole exam for me and I genuinely looked forward to our sessions. I was so anxious through this whole process and booked extra sessions with Chris just so I could feel empowered and capable. He is more than a tutor, but a mentor, a coach, and a trusted friend. He could (quite literally) read my body language, and if he thought I was anxious or worried he would ask me what’s up and we'd chat about whatever was on my mind to try to get to the root of the issue. He is the hardest worker I've ever met and is always looking for ways to better himself for his students.

To anyone looking for tutoring - Chris is your guy! I would especially recommend him if you are a nervous test taker like myself.

I'm hopeful that this score will be able to get me into an Ontario law school - either way though, a huge accomplishment for me.

    D) The argument assumes that there was no third civilization responsible for creating the first tombs of the kind found in both the Oromo and Swahili cultures.

This is descriptively inaccurate because the argument addresses the possibility of a third culture creating the tombs by precluding it. It says that ‘the structures are unknown among any other people with who the Swahili’s had contact’, I think the only thing it is really assuming is that if it’s unknown it didn’t happen, or if they didn’t have contact they could influence.

Could someone let me know if this is correct?
