I recently started reading Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right's Stealth Plan for America by Nancy MacLean. So far its a great read! Very interesting to get a different perspective on American culture and life from the mid-1900's and how that has manifested into modern culture and views

What type of law are you interested in practicing? Does either school have a better program for that type of law? I live in Rochester and personally prefer Albany as a city, not that Syracuse is bad I just enjoyed Albany more. I know a couple firms that are spread out between the 4 upstate cities which can make transferring easier. I don't think there is a huge difference between either school personally, but the largest impact will be what type of law you want to practice.

Small town to mid-sized city for me. I know being a Lawyer is going to require a large time commitment each week (not an easy 30-40hr week) so the last thing I want to do is spend more time in a car/train/bus getting home :)

Has nothing to do with the LSAT, but I just passed the Patent Bar Exam yesterday so I can work as a patent agent until I apply in fall of 2019 :) I figure I've earned a few days of vacation before I get back to LSAT prep!

After the first question that @ mentioned, it is a variety of factors of varying importance for everyone, which include: Cost of attendance, scholarship opportunities, Bar passage rates, employment rates (for JD required preferably), location, prestige, etc. They're many factors to consider but the first one is always: What do you want to do as a lawyer? Big Law? Small town Law? Public vs Private? Suny Buffalo might be fine for someone who wants to stay in Buffalo, but a good friend of mine went there and said even some of the top people in the class had a hard time finding a job after graduation.

Personally, my top choice is Duke. My fiance and I have always wanted to live in NC, they have an incredible program with high prestige, employment and opportunities, a great IP program, and it's right next to Research Triangle Park which is perfect for my STEM background. It was a no brainer to pick Duke as my top choice, and it was a combination of all of the above factors!

Whether or not you should disclose really depends on the wording of the C&F questions on whatever applications you decide to submit. If your Dean of Students has no record of the issue, I doubt there is a record of it anywhere else at the school.

I would lean towards non-disclosure given the circumstances. I would imagine most C&F questions will be phrased in a way that will not require you to disclose, anyhow.

That's a good point I've never looked at any C&F questions so I'll have to keep that in mind, thanks!

Definitely disclose if you think it may be an issue in the future, though. No reason to let something like this hang over your head.

My official counsel is 'caution.' :D

I don't think it will be, but better to be "cautious" lol

Just a note to say - I would still disclose it though. I mean, I had to disclose 15 year old speeding tickets lol. If somehow it came up in C&F for the bar and you hadn’t disclosed it here, that could be a problem. It’s not the crime, it’s the cover up, you know? Hahah. (Not that I think there’s a crime or a cover up involved here lol) Disclose everything!

Oh yes I'm disclosing it! lol The truth shall set you free, even more so when the truth is not known because there is no record haha But I definitely agree I'd rather disclose it and have an admission officer shrug it off after 10 seconds of reading then it to come back and haunt me years down the road.

As long as, you do not have listed on your criminal record. It is not issue. The law schools do care if you have something like a felony conviction or you were held jail for period of time and no charges were filed. There is a statue of limitation of 7 years. It makes unlikely that would be reported because it is past the statute of limitations.

I would certainly hope not...I feel like my alma mater would have kept a record of it if they bothered to report it to the police lol I still have no idea why they didn't keep it...

@ Thanks for the suggestion! Ironically I was racking my brain about it until this morning, but definitely now less stressful.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to get people's opinions on this. When I was at college I had a verbal disagreement with a public saftey officer that escalated to me writing a formal apology and doing some community service. Since I was the subject of a disciplinary hearing, I want to obviously disclose this information. I called my alma matter this morning and they have no record of anything, ever happening with me during my time there. I asked for a letter, signed by the Dean of Students, attesting to that fact for my records moving forward (which they are willing to provide), but how should I disclose this?

It was 8 years ago so my memory of it is far from perfect, so should I just say that I had a verbal disagreement with Public Saftey and state that my alma matter has no record of it, along with submitting the letter as evidence? I want to disclose it, but I also don't want to look stupid since I'm disclosing something that technically doesn't exist and no one has a clear record of. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, thanks!

I fool proofed them as I went through the CC, the ones that really gave me trouble or I could not 100% understand the first time I did it without watching the explanation video from JY. I don't think there is any reason to wait until after the CC!

@ I have an 09' macbook pro that does the same thing. I quit unnecessary apps but it still occasionally heats up and uses the fan when I'm watching 7sage videos. If you're using it with the stand with cooling fans I think you'll be fine, I've never had any issues

This reminds me of the book, Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, which is an incredible read if anyone has the time. It discusses how Bill gates acheived his success, how the Beatles actually became one of the best musical acts in history, how Joseph Flom developed Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom into the successful law firm that it is today, etc... It is pretty remarkable to read about how hard these individuals worked but also the opportunities that they were given and how they took them and rannnn with them more than anyone else did. The LSAT is just another opportunity!

Like @ said, I think it comes down to your diagnostic score and your goals. If you get a 155 on a true, timed diagnostic, then a 160-165 might be achievable within 3 months. I would agree with everyone else though that 3 months is not enough time in general. Steady prep for a longer time is always better than rushed prep!

Have you gone through the 19 common LSAT flaws? That list was really helpful in learning common flaw types and things to keep your eye out for. I used to create fake arguments using one of the flaws from the list, to practice formulating what a flaw like that would look like in an argument. Give it time and practice and you'll get them!

@ I print one copy, then slide them into document protectors when i do the game and use an ultra fine tip expo marker, works perfectly! Didnt mean to hijack the question, just offering my suggestion

I printed a single copy of each game, then whenever I want to do a game I slide the sheets into a clear document protector and use a fine tip expo marker from Target. When I'm done, erase and repeat. Works like a charm!
