Hey! I'm sorry about the proctor interruptions, especially that they happened during the first section, which could really tip off the rhythm that you were trying to build and maintain for the rest of the test. I took the LSAT last October and filed a request to retest due to internet issues on the first go. From what I remembered the retest was not substantially different from the first one in terms of difficulty level, and it might have been slightly easier just because I was in a calmer mindset knowing that I have done the best I could to address the issues that happened the first time (found a different testing location that was quieter and had better wifi) and that this time could not be worse than that. I ended up getting a 170 from the retest that I knew I didn't get on the first go with all the issues that happened and my spiraling anxiety, so in my opinion the retest is really a blessing and opportunity for you to put aside all your fears and just give it your best shot. Good luck with the retake request and if you do end up retaking it for this month, I hope you'll do so well! (Also next time it might be helpful to let the proctor know politely before starting the exam that if they need to communicate with you, please pause the test first).
Personally I’d keep it just cuz 1 point is by no means a huge difference. If you cancel the score, you might risk having the admissions people wondering if you did a lot worse than a 170, which isn’t the case at all! Either way congrats that’s still an awesome score
Hi Nina! It's amazing that you've been putting consistent effort into studying for the LSAT, and I'm super confident that it's all going to pay off in the future (not just your score but also things like good study habits, resilience, etc.). It's understandable that you are feeling some burnout but can't really take a complete break either. Here're a couple things that helped me during my study time:
setting up a little reward system: I had a paper calendar and would put one sticker on the date of today whenever I have put into 1 hour of quality studying. If I get a certain amount of stickers for one week, I would reward myself by getting a boba or going to a movie or something. It also helps to just look at it and see how far I've come when I feel like I'm not making progress.
having a break day every week: if you can't take your mind off studying completely, just have a much lighter day, like studying for 1-2 hours. I know it sounds counterintuitive at first, but you can trust that even when you are not actively studying for the LSAT, your brain is working hard and processing information that it hasn't completely digested. So really, taking a break is going to help you more than you think!
do something that would take your mind off things when you're taking the break: when I felt burnt out less than a week before my LSAT, I went to an amusement park nearby and just spent the day riding roller coasters. It was so nice to not be thinking about the LSAT and feeling a sense of escape for the day, cuz when I returned to studying the day after, I feel a lot happier and more refreshed.
You got this!!
@.place Thank you so much for your input and kind words! I really appreciate it.
Hi! Thank you so much for doing this. I signed up for both the October and November LSAT a while ago and received a 170 on the October one, which I'm really grateful for and was better than most of my PT scores. I'm hoping to apply to some T14 schools including NYU and UPenn, but I'm a bit unsure if I would be able to score higher in the upcoming test due to fluctuating performances. Any suggestions on whether or not I should retake or what I may be able to focus on for the next ten days or so if I do retake would be super appreciated :)
@ You're super welcome and thanks! It takes a bit time to work in that mindset, but I know you can totally do this. You're already making an admirably courageous decision by requesting a retake and all the effort you've put into this are not going to waste. Best of luck with everything, I believe in you
