If you are having a hard time choosing between E and C like I did, here is my take apart from JY's explanation.

(E) re-uses the word 'rigorous' from the passage. For an Inference question, normally, the correct answer choice is a paraphrase of the actual word from the passage which contained "rigorous". LSAC question writers would not let us get away with the same word easily. Hence, I eliminated E based on the assumption that words in the original passage would not normally reappear in the exact same form in the answer choice.
