@ , I'm going to be pursuing a combination of corporate, health and IP law :) Those are the areas of interest for me as a science and business major. The Law School I'll be attending has a patent clinic and health clinic, so I'll be sure to check them out!
Put down my deposit at UVA Law!
@. Don't give up! I just got in (first acceptance and my LSAT was 169) so go for it! I am an international student (Canadian) so don't know if it makes a difference. Also I have been creeping here for months but never posted. Wanted to thank you for all the encouraging posts, they made such a difference studying for my first LSAT this December. Wishing you all the very best with apps!
No idea, but I heard most prep courses are expensive and not particularly useful. I would personally recommend learning as much about 1L as possible (blogs, videos, speak with students), and reading hornbooks on 1L classes to prep if you were interested. This is my personal plan anyway!
I'm going to school in the US (Canadian Student), but wanted to know what kinds of law are common in Canada? I feel as though the Canadian market is much smaller most Canadian lawyers end up on Bay street. What kinds of law are practiced commonly other than corporate here?
Honestly, half the cycle is left up to fate and luck I swear. My original goal was a lower T10. I am way beyond all their stats got waitlisted. I was crushed as I worked so hard on the LSAT to get in there. But then I got a full ride at another T10... so who knows what goes on to be honest. It's not you, sometimes it's just luck, and you did you best and should be proud of your accomplishments!
I think it is self selection bias as well. You have kids all used to being top 10% going somewhere where they may not even be median. Lots of people are type A perfectionists or competitive in law school, hence why the high depression rates at Harvard. Personally, I am leaning towards UVA because the students and faculty are so supportive, because that matters to me.
What matters is changing your mindset. Go into law school and do your best, but be mentally prepared for the fact that you may work hard and not do as well as you would like, because everyone is smart and works hard. Make your mental health a priority and make genuine, supportive friends :)
Literally sit tight and don't lose hope! There are many people who are admitted to multiple schools, and will be withdrawing. I'll be withdrawing from 6 T14 Schools and 2 T20 schools along with 3 T14 waitlists in a few days! All with at least 75K in scholarships. More people make it off the waitlist than you might think. Best of luck! What is your top choice by the way @ ?
@ , thank you so much! You and others in this supportive community have made the long journey 100000x better :D
@ , it was due to a combination of fit, alignment with my career goals and financial reasons! To be honest, I only applied at first because of the fee waiver they gave :P I want to end up in Northern California, but I am SO glad I did apply as it all worked out! I absolutely loved talking to everyone at UVA Law, and it's a supportive community (like here at 7sage) which really matters to me as I perform best under a collaborative atmosphere. Additionally I believe that UVA really does look at an individual holistically rather than just at their stats. Best of luck with applications!
