I agree, I don't think it should be on the LSAT. We're supposed to be given all the information we need.

At this point I make most of my mistakes because of overthinking. I did not choose C because of the word "surrounding"

To me, because the author stated the pits themselves were subject to erosion, the surrounding soil was unrelated to the argument.

It is not allowed anymore from what I heard. It's because someone wanted to sit on the floor and had notes under the carpet. AI flagged him/her and was dismissed from the exam. Your best bet would be to check with LSAC either way.
