hi - i took mine in Dallas too for December & i think i only registered 2 weeks before the deadline and it was fine. i think you can just keep an eye on it too to see how you feel!! especially if you have flexibility for the testing center

Thoughts on Next Steps

Hi all -

Need to get some thoughts on whether I should apply this cycle. Scored a 162, although I was PTing higher. I had to rush the study to make it this cycle since I had extended my Fulbright year to finish up some research. I have a 3.82 GPA and would prefer schools in the T-14 although I know my score is low for that. I'm thinking I might still have a chance because of some of my softs & I am working a consulting firm at the moment.

Should I retake & sit out this cycle or at least try applying? Might just pick a select group of schools. Was even thinking going ED for UPenn.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

i was in a similar situation this year & i think it is sort of up to you in terms of where you really want to go and whether you think by attending these schools you'll be settling on your dream school.

if you study consistently you're likely to see gains and can sit out this cycle and then next year you can apply to these schools and some others so you'll never have to wonder what if!

BUT if you see yourself being happy at these schools & not wondering back if you should have tried again then go for it!

i think i was so quick to assume this was just a normal weakening question that i didn't read the question stem properly & quickly jumped to pick answer choice A...

a) the author has already said we are just talking about dry conditions - this is what i originally picked because i was looking at this as a weakening question whereas this was more about finding another explanation for the other's conclusion that could be added to the existing one

b) has nothing to do w/ hard vs. soft surfaces

c) gives another reason why being on a hard surface makes you go faster - is another explanation (doesn't have to contradict the existing one)

d) once again doesn't have anything to do w/ hard vs. soft surfaces

e) doesn't have to do with the speed of a runner...not relevant

i at first found this question confusing because all the terms were relative in the answer choices so i was finding myself getting lost in the words -

but looking back it might have made sense to sort of write a few words on what each answer choice really means & then think back to how it connects to the answer choice...

what we need to do here -

we need to find a statement that would weaken it by showing that the savings from switching over to oil wold be enough to make the money they already spent on switching to the natural gas equipment negligible

a) natural gas cost same & natural gas equipment cheaper --- strengthens the conclusion since people are less likely to switch back to oil with everything for natural gas being cheaper

b) oil isn't any cheaper & natural gas equipment more expensive - doesn't help weaken because no incentive for those people who already have the equipment to switch back to oil, the increase in the cost of the ng equipment doesn't impact them since they already have it & there would be no savings to recuperate the cost

c) natural gas equipment cheaper & oil costs to 1970s level - don't know anything about the oil equipment so miss that piece and the decrease in cost to the natural gas equipment doesn't impact those who already have it

*d) oil equipment is cheaper & price to use oil is less than price to use natural gas - this has both components, the equipment cost won't be much and then the person would save in monthly oil usage costs

what i think also really helps with this one is that you don't have to guess whether the decrease in oil costs makes it cheaper than natural gas or not (like in the other statements) because it explicitly says it
