Here's how I think about it, I hope it helps.

Premise: North American Art History PhD institutions report less total applications than they did 4 years ago.

Conclusion: North American grad students are less interested in Art history than they were 4 years ago.

E: Non-North American applicant percentage has dropped.

I did some math to prove that does weaken the argument, despite the fact that this is probably not ideal for test day.

Let's do a hypothetical:

Four years ago there were...

75 North American Applicants (NAA)

25 Non-North American Applicants (/NAA) (25% of applicants)

The only way to decrease the proportion/percentage of /NAA (as far as I am concerned) is to decrease the absolute number of /NAA, or to increase the number of NAA, or even a combination of both.

Today, there are...

75 NAA

10 /NAA (11%)

As you can see, there is still a drop in the absolute/total number of applications as the premise said, but because the number of NAA stayed the same, can you really say NAA interest decreased? This decrease in percentage of /NAA accounts for the decrease in total applicants, weakening the argument.

Because we would want to decrease the total number of applications as cited in the premises, you can't just increase the NAA alone, you must also decrease the /NAA so that /NAA make up a smaller proportion and so that the total number of applications is less than 100.

So additionally, we may have, today...

80 NAA

10 /NAA (11%)

As you can see, there is a drop in the total applicants, and the /NAA percentage makes up less than it originally did 4 years ago. However, the NAA percentage increased and the absolute number of NAA even increased. Are we really going to argue that NAA interest then dropped? The decrease in the proportion of /NAA therefore contributed to the decrease in applications.

Admittedly, I did not do this under timed conditions. The way I thought about it was "B: does not weaken it at all, what does age have to do with this?" E stumped me, but I figured if the percentage of /NAA dropped, there was at least a chance that this could result in the drop of total applications. I think that chance is the reason I chose B, since losing some percentage in a total has a chance of decreasing the absolute total. In retrospect, my intuition was correct, because if /NAA applications decrease, then there has to be either a drop in /NAA or an increase in NAA and at the same time in /NAA, which is exactly what my hypothetical points to. NAA either did not decrease at all or it increased, which makes it hard to argue that interest has dropped.

I hope this helps.

Which Practice Tests to do?

I'm planning on taking the LSAT in October or November or even both, and I've done prep tests 1-6. I know the earlier prep tests aren't exactly representative of what the modern tests are like, so which ones should I do from now until then? Any feedback is appreciated :)
