From my understanding, C is wrong because it doesnt explain the situation. It tells you what a parasite does (latches onto the host and drains the host of vitality), but doesnt explain why a lack of parasite on stingrays shows that the environment isn’t doing well. It’s more of a fun fact than an explanation. Like why is lack of parasite = poor environment ?

I would’ve thought other way around as well. Understanding concepts is necessary to true mastery. You need to understand concepts to truly master something.
