I'm taking it for the first time in September and I may do the December one. I'm going to do my best on my first go which is why I'm here. 7Sage really is great for preparing for this test!
The stimuli starts in a common way ( with another person's stance or point of view {judges}). The initial set up is the context because it refers to the judge's point of view and is not the argument. The argument begins at the end of the context which is signaled by the keyword but. Then we get to what the argument is really about and the thing that needs support throughout the remainder of the argument. That refers to the conclusion which states mandatory minimum sentences are necessary. Why??? The why is answered by the premises that follow. It all lends support to the conclusion. When looking at the answer choices you see that B may have the right subject yet the predicate refers to the judge's point of view and not the argument therefore E is the correct answer as it sufficiently expresses the main point.
The stimuli presents with a theory about what causes earthquakes (context). It then reaches a turning point {As plausible as this may sound} and goes into what will be supported (conclusion). It says at least one thing remains mysterious on this theory. What is that thing? Who knows but we do know there is more to be figured out which takes us to answer choice (B) stating that the current theory doesn't fully explain earthquake data therefore we have more to learn (the mystery).
When reading the stimulus we start by labeling. Once you get to the word {but} you can see that what came before that is context and what follows is the conclusion {this theory may be wrong). What theory are they referring to? The fact that Alzheimer is commonly contracted by older persons. So if that theory may be wrong what would be proposed as a correct theory follows the conclusion (premise). The answer choice (A) shows the comparison between the theory that may be wrong and the theory that is better suited.
I love the way he writes out the conditions in shorthand. It definitely helps when going through the answers and understanding what is being said. I got it wrong at first because I got a little tripped up but watching this clarifies a lot.
