Another Holiday Ruined By Law School

Here we go again:

Thanksgiving

Christmas

New Years

& now Passover/Easter.

Thank you once again for ruining more weekends & holidays. In less than 6 months, I've had more anxiety and less patience than anything else through out my existence.

[moved] How'd Y'all Do?

So guys, what were your verdicts? I'm curious to hear the stories/vents... has anyone taken a step back, and has perhaps consider the GRE as an alternative? Or are you guys more motivated than ever to show the next test that you're going to destroy it? Regardless. I'd love to hear from anyone who is willing to express their experience from today!

There is a lot of good criticism of the personality test, but I still think it's interesting to discuss..esp. in ctxt of the LSAT. Wondering if certain personality types (like analysts) actually tend to do better on the LSAT. I found very limited data with a google search. Thought the forum could be a good place to talk about it, criticize the test, and perhaps get into a nature vs. nurture debate :)

I recommend everyone to take this exam! ISTJ!!!!:)

If I am not the only one who is an HUGE Entourage fan on 7Sage, I'd thought I would get our minds off the LSAT and ask if anyone cares

I'd say... try em both. It can't hurt. See what you tend to lean towards, and then choose what to submit. If you do both, you can always send both (good/great) scores to the admissions team. I recommend seeing how ya do on both, honestly.

Waiting Sucks & Does Anyone Else Miss Studying?

Is it just me or does anyone else miss their routine for studying for the lsat? Waiting for the actual exam day was (to me) way better, and at least kept me busy! My schedule for studying for this thing kept my mind off the approaching date, and it always felt like time flew by. But now, with this next damn part. Waiting to hear from these schools? Naw, my patience is pretty much eliminated. I can't lie, I really do miss being stressed and way too studious. Anyone else?? :(

Not anxious about Dec scores?

Probably, and most definitely may be just me on here, or in general who is not worried about this score. If anyone else is not as freaked out or anxious as I am, we're not alone? This LSAT for me was the 'testing of waters', studying with 7Sage for the past 6 months allowed for me to get the question stems, and the main "guts" of the LSAT. By this statement I mean that I took this test willingly knowing my score may come out as worst as possible, however I came out of the exam KNOWING the main criteria... what the LR questions were, how to approach them, how JY taught me to quickly determine what kind of stem they were using. Therefore, I successfully got my main worry/concern of whether or not I should really bother continuously study for the February LSAT or not. Due to my understanding the actual test itself, even after the PT's, nothing is close to the real thing, and sitting there in the room. 7Sage gave me the confidence to persist on for the next LSAT with more ease than ever imagined. Now I am going over each part of the test and units in the curriculum with a fine toothed comb, and will be even more relaxed and actually excited for my score to come in. As for the December 2017 test goes, I had about 7-10 minutes left each section, which is great because that's how I knew JY took these tests, circling the ones we are not completely sure on, realizing when spending too much time on a question means MOVE ON, and finally... being able to go over those questions for even more than just twice.

I was confident with the time, that was a big worry; checked off the box.

I was nervous about not answering each questions/stalling and in a time-sink; that too was checked off the box.

I was fine with knowing what the question stems were; BIGGEST check off the box.

Finally, I was okay with whatever score is coming my way that "my real" test was in February. That will be my time to freak.

I may be the only one to feel these things, and to understand how it may look on my apps but mostly, it is better to be realistic and know when it is indeed your time to thrive on this damn test.

Good luck to those from this (Dec) test, and for those with a little more of a ways to go...

A Different Route From Law School

It's been a long year of endless studying for the lsat for me, as for all of us here at 7Sage. I have taken the test an amount of times, that most of you would consider to be too many times. I'm not influenced by how many times people can or don't take the test, if anything in my [personal opinion]... It shows schools that you're persistent. However, like I said that's just me. Given today's economic shifts, employment of this generation, and academic trends; it's hard to ignore the signs that we often neglect to recognize.

If anyone else is into the whole socioeconomic trends, not by just a degree in B.S., but by simply observing the world's trends... then I'm sure you can see what I'm talking about. Recently Glassdoor released a list of the 50 most in demand jobs, based on a few different factors. All of those 50 were in these catagories: Analysists, Engineering, and Marketing. Upon reading about these occupations, I realized that all of them paid at least 75,000 as their average base. They range up past the 100k as well. What I found strange was the fact the businesses wanted people with skills/past experiences, or two years of internships. I have none of that. Not to mention, like many of us... math & science are totally not our areas of expertise. I haven't done math or science since high school, let alone major or work in the field with these two, very complex fields of occupation.

Economically, in the world we have noticed that education used to be the way out in order to achieve success later on in ones life. Now, education is the way in... to debt. I'm sure a lot of us can acknowledge how expensive a college education is, especially if we are not given the opportunity to have it readily available, financially. The United States largest debt, is now student debt. We have to work our whole lives to repay what we did in school to get us the jobs (most are not even satisfied with). We don't get to even think about retirement due to this overwhelming growth in loans. It's sad. These jobs listed above seem to want those whom have a good understanding of those fields, not a M.A. or J.D, etc. It makes sense if students decide to go into a high paying job after school, without having to be buried in debt. So, for many of us noticing that unless we truly want to be apart of the law, versus just going to Law school for a high paying/ powered job... the script is now flipped. Unfortunately. I know too many people who initially went to Law school for a better financially stable future, and are now disappointed that it didn't play out in the way they had thought it would.

Thus, I do think for many who either just love school or learning, or those who really know that law school is all they have ever wanted... stay with it!!

As for me, I intend on going to Law school. However, I was recently admitted to a Graduate program with a fully paid tuition. For me, thats two extra years of a dept free education. I'd be remiss if I didn't take it, for it is both economically sound & I believe will give me more time to build a strong resume, allowing me to go for my J.D with a master's degree behind me as well. Also, I hope to get the Teachers Assistanship as well, for it will show my abilities to teach, and have a solid foundation of interpersonal communication. I do know this will help for applications when it comes time for law school, seeing those things on my resume.

I will continue with 7sage, because they have been here for me since day one. I'll probably be on here for another two years, and many will find me annoying after awhile.

I just figure that with all the discussions of Law School Apps, I'd post this in case anyone is in a similar predicament/ freaking out about a future in continuing education.

Being realistic about the world has shown me that my plans for the new few years, is not as realistic for the rest of my life.

Why Cali?

Why do more people seem to want to attend school in California? Its literally like watching the East coast and West coast battle over more schools in the top rankings. I'm just curious if others are currently living in a warmer area, and are dying to get out? I live in South Florida, and can't imagine spending my Law school career in the same state. I may be missing a bigger picture such as costs, acceptance, scholarships, etc. I'm just wondering as to why so many of those, whom already reside in Cali want to stay?

Is it Over?

I'm pretty over this cycle, and I am a bit disappointed but also a bit relieved. For many, I am sure this cycle has been not as expected... and I am just one of those many. Frustrating, and extremely tedious it was to wait and still wait at the ending of April to hear, or to have a deposit deadline come moments after. However, I am a bit relieved that I am throwing in this towel, it seems to be more of a rag by this point & frankly I do not mind getting rid of it at all.

If you had a nice GRE score, lots of law schools are now accepting those in replace of the lsat. Which can easily be helpful for people like you and I, who have a Masters, now looking for law school in the future! Having a higher education before going for your J.D, will always look positive on your resume & transcripts. I recommend you look into if the places you want to apply to, and their accepting different entrance exams. What did you get your M.A in?

Try an empty classroom at FIU, chances are you'll be able to get an empty class during the Summer. If anyone asks just say you're a student, that's what I did. It's pretty dead on campuses during the break, and when you take the actual exam... it will be in that exact setting (most likely). I was suggest UM, but since they're a private campus, you know... :/

    My final results are:

    Acceptances:

    None

    Waitlist:

    UCLA

    U. Mich

    U. Penn

    Northwestern

    Notre Dame

    Duke

    UVA

    Rejections: (mostly expected here)

    Harvard

    Stanford

    Columbia

    U.Chicago

    USC

    Two still pending:

    Yale (rejection)

    Irvine

So what the heck am I suppose to do. I have to go this cycle, I really don't have an option. I need to push these waitlists until I can't any longer. I just don't know what the best strategy is.

Obviously I have schools I'd rather attend on the waitlist, but since I'm on the waitlist I don't get to choose. I have to beg them all and hope someone likes me enough right?

Sorry^ let me add this in quickly.

When I did visit Columbia, I went more than once. And it may be because I am part of the majority race at CLS, not sure... but the students engaged with me very well. There were a few individuals that had an upper hand in the admissions, and these students seemed to know what they look for in both (personality and mental capacities). A prime example of this was when they picked me out and pulled me to the side (again probably because of my race),

and asked me: "where else are you looking to apply to, have you made a decision?"

At that time I had the inkling that they wanted to see where my standings were on accepting a law school offer, and more specifically if I was leaning towards Columbia.

Walking into the library countless times including during the Summer, without having to show a CLS ID... the security just let me in to all the buildings without asking, aka they assumed I already was a student there. Which is kind of cool but also kind of a hasty generalization.

So like I stressed before, CLS is in fact very Asian. And they noticed that in me, unfortunately with that stereotype instantly being attached to me. The treatment I got after countless visits may very well have been due to my ethnicity. Sad, but nevertheless why many may have different feedback about CLS.

I may be alone here, but after visiting Columbia I fell even deeper in love than I was prior to visiting. I knew I wanted to be in the City, and the only T14 around was Columbia and NYU. Columbia will be your dream. After visiting Columbia, I went to NYU and wanted to run away. I'd visit, its a very personal experience... try getting to know some of the current students opinions.

Really?? I’m more drawn to nyu than cls. What did you hate about nyu??

I went to cls first, I suppose falling in love is the reaction I had when visiting. I think for me CLS had a very 'scholarly vibe', in which I finally felt fit with my personality and accomplishments. Frankly, I'm a very competitive person & although most people who have visited Cls, complaining about how it seemed "harsh or cold", made me feel just the opposite. NYU, no one gave me the time of day. The law school was in the middle of the streets of Manhattan, which (I love but it was not my favorite for atmosphere)... However, take that with a grain of salt because I truly like how Columbia is still a neat and tight campus. There was, at least for me.. a sense of coziness?

It is super interesting to hear everyone else say the opposite of my opinions. I just didn't mesh well with nyu, I couldn't have wanted to leave any quicker than I did.

    My heart remains with CLS!

    Hey all,

As many of you know my application cycle did not go very smoothly. One of the biggest obstacles I faced during this process was the LSAC. My transcripts from about 10 years ago underwent a change after I spoke to the Dean of my old community college. She enrolled me in an academic renewal policy that removes all credit attempted and calculated for grades given at the college. I re-submitted my transcripts to the LSAC, because based on their posted policy at the time my GPA should have been significantly improved. (2.8 - 3.1)

I fought with them for months, filled out forms they had for me, updated schools of my situation, put my applications on hold, and ultimately I truly believe this is what landed me on all the wait-list as I still have not been able to send a final update to the schools as to what the outcome will be.

I fought very hard against the LSAC because I knew their policy was wrong. I filed a complaint with the BBB and during the correspondence there they continued to reviel that they did not understand their own policy. The contradicted themselves multiple times, and I even received an E-mail from the BBB agent that stated she saw their inconsistency and left the complain as "unresolved".

I brought all this to a lawyer, who believed I 100% had a case against them. Their policy was wrong, and they were holding it against me. It was up to them to change their policy, but they DID hold my applications back. He advised me not to litigate though because he thought they'd appeal me to hell. I'm still unsure if I will purse this.

Some good has come out of this however, the LSAC HAS UPDATED their entire transcript summerization policy due to my persistence. While the LSAC has ultimately crushed my dreams and hampered all my hard work, I have at least ensured that it wont happen to someone else.

(failing grades, and grades to be excluded are totally different now)

    https://www.lsac.org/aboutlsac/policies/transcript-summarization

Their new policy explicitly excludes me from having my grades changed now, and replaces ALL the wording I pointed to that showed them why it should be changed.

It's a hallow victory, I am sitting on a ton of waitlists now and I really do contribute it to this. Especially after e-mailing schools to put my applications on hold for almost a month.

Just know, you should NEVER back down. You should always fight for yourself. Always fight for what is right, even if it doesn't help you know it can help someone else later.

I plan on staying on 7Sage, especially if I don't get off a waitlist. I hope to help and get you to realize some of your dreams as well. Keep up the hard work 7Sagers.

I think myself & a few others will be here with you after this fall. I'll be here too, for a very long time. I'm working on my Masters and intend to then go to law school, so I'm not going anywhere either. You've been very motivating and we all admire it.

True, if anything they are probably much more adapted to the tricky logistics & the stuff (most of us) hate the MOST.... MATH! I love how law schools are finally realizing that other tests can tackle the LSAT in hopes to get into law. It's (personally) common sense, there are so many branches of study that most neglect to realize how beneficial it could be for future lawyers. Especially in the STEM fields, hell yeah the GMAT is sufficient to the LSAT! I am celebrating this
