Why is C wrong? Under time constraints, I did the "negate" trick and took it mean: "All social processes do not involve interaction that is neither rigid nor artificial."

"Sometimes, there is an assumption gap between what's said in the stimulus and the correct answer." What does this mean, again? Does anyone have a chart that helps differentiate how assumptions are to be used in MC, MSS, MBT, and PAI, in comparison with assumptions in RRE, W, S, E questions? Are certain patterns of assumptions in the right/wrong answer choices for the two groups of questions above? An organized list, or chart (explaining the different roles assumptions make for each question type) would be very helpful! #Help #Feedback

I'm getting confused as to what the curriculum says about MSS questions and assumptions. Are we allowed to pick answer choices that are assumptions, but not allowed to make our own assumptions? I think I'm currently picking answer choices that I think are assumptions made by the argument, but are really my own (or vice versa)? How would you differentiate an answer choice that could be true or could be false, with an answer choice that makes a reasonable assumption? Both seem tempting. #Help

PSA: This new curriculum ROCKS! After going through the whole old curriculum over a year ago and taking time off studying (didn't apply to any schools last cycle and haven't studied for over a year), this condensed version has really helped me get back on track. Through this version, I've been able to speed through content that I may (or may not) have forgotten. I also feel like the tips/tricks are easier to follow and understand. Thanks 7Sage team!

What to do?!

Just wondering what you guys do after you write your official LSAT? Do you continue to study while you wait for your score? Do you take a break? Does anyone feel a little empty inside after all the studying, anticipation, adrenaline, that went into just a 3-hour exam?

Flaw Questions

Hello!

I'm having some trouble with Flaw questions, and am wondering if anyone has any advice/resource recommendations?

I'm pretty well versed with the many different kinds of logical fallacies. However, I'm weary of how the test makers describe the flaw in the reasoning. E.g. If the author commits a "straw man," I'm unsure how LSAC words/describes that mischaracterization in an AC. Of course, I know our language is complex, and that there are hundreds of different ways to say the same thing (so, how something is worded in one AC, can be worded a different way in another question's AC and mean the same thing)! I see AC's that say "the author takes for granted," "the author fails to consider," etc. and am wondering if anyone knows how to decipher what these different AC's even mean. If the "author takes for granted _____," I'm assuming that LSAC means the flaw is in what the author/argument said/did. If, on the other hand, "the author fails to consider _____," I'm assuming the flaw is something the author/argument didn't say/do.

Has anyone compiled a document with LSAC's different answer choices that best describe different flaws in the reasoning? I've found that sometimes with the explanation videos to flaw questions, the wrong AC's and how LSAC writes them, aren't always described generally/examples of what the wrong AC means aren't always given (e.g. LSAC means by this wording that the argument did this _____, but the argument did this ____, so this AC is wrong). Maybe I've overlooked the curriculum for information on this? I often really overthink these questions, and what the AC is trying to say, and need some #Help!!

PTB.S2.G2 - A park at most five of seven kinds...

Hey!

Can someone please explain how to interpret rules 3 and 4 of this LG? (PT B, S2, G2)

3: "If y is not in, then either L or O, but not both are in"

How I interpreted this rule:

Not Y --> L or O

Contrapositive:

Not L and Not O --> Y

4: "If it's not the case that the park contains both L and O, then it contains F and S"

How I interpreted this rule:

Not L and Not O --> F and S

Contrapositive:

Not F or Not S --> L or O

In the explanation video, JY has a world where L, O and Y are all in, and I don't understand how we got there. I'm sure I'm missing some kind of bi-conditional lesson, or something. Did he just "negate" rule 3 by just the wording like: "if L and O are both in, Y is in," and that's how we got a possible world where L, O and Y are all in? Please help me lol

Admin Note: Edited title. Please use the format: "PT#.S#.Q# - brief description of question”

LR Inconsistency

Hey everyone,

I range from -12 to -3 on timed LR sections on my PTs. Does anyone have suggestions? I've gone through the Powerscore LR Bible, it didn't help me much. I blind review and can usually correct myself. I just can't manage to stay consistent with my LR scores :/

I truly think LSAC should just give us all 170s after this whole ordeal 😂

My exam never loaded and a proctor never came back (my exam was scheduled Friday morning at 8:30AM, and I waited until 2PM to try to start it). I typically struggle with LR. For those of you that were able to complete the test, how did you find LR?

Hey everyone,

I hope you’re all keeping safe and healthy!

I’m writing the January Flex and I’m wondering if there’s anything I need to download before my test (MacBook user)? Do I just sign onto my ProctorU before my test and it’ll load me to a screen? Please let me know about your experiences :)

I'm so sorry to those of you experiencing anxiety, frustration, and dismay with today's ordeal with Prometric. From 8AM my heart has been racing, along with all the tears lol. I wish LSAC had really tested and flushed out all the logistics with Prometric before switching from ProctorU. I’m very salty at the fact that the provider was changed during this August administration!! I feel like I was used like a Guinea pig.

I’m praying for those writing tomorrow!! I hope none of you experience any problems with your proctors, or launching the exam etc.

(I’ve submitted feedback, and still don’t have a resolution. Didn’t even get to start the test. It never loaded and a proctor never came back after the security/environment scan was approved).

Has anyone actually completed the full test today? If so, what were your thoughts? 😂 Trying to make light of the situation.

@ My exam was scheduled at 8:30AM. Didn't get a proctor until 9:20AM. Then, after completing the security check-in, I waited over 2 hours and no proctor ("Loading Docket" on LawHub screen, and no responses through Chat). I called LSAC and they told me to call Prometric to get a proctor. Finally got ahold of Prometric and they made me exit out of the exam. Prometric told me I have to contact LSAC to reschedule and that I cannot take the exam later on today (currently 1:50PM my time). Problem is, I'm traveling out of the country tomorrow. Did LSAC reschedule you, or Prometric? I feel like neither side is helping me right now.

Contrapositives of Conjunctions and Disjunctions

Hello!

I understand that when doing LG, to help chain up the rules, sometimes you need to contrapose conjunctions and disjunctions ("and" turns into "or," and "or" turns into "and"). However, I'm struggling to remember how the flipping and negating goes. Does anyone have any tips on this?

E.g.

Original: G and S --> /I

Contrapositive: I --> /G or /S

Am I doing this correctly?

OR is it:

/G or /S --> I

(Do we flip conjunctions/disjunctions when contraposing, or just negate?)

It goes back to the 3rd rule of the game: "If the student takes history in semester 2, she takes geology and literature in semester 1." So, if H is in semester 2, G has to be in semester 1. They can't both be in 2 together!

OMG!! Wowww… I mistakenly wrote down that rule as H2 —> L1 and completely missed the Geology part!! Ugh, the importance of reading carefully! Thank you for your help :)

Hello!

I'm wondering, for those of you who have taken the latest PrepTest released by LSAC, #94, how you went about answering Question 8? I don't understand how the student can't take Geology and History in Semester 2? I'm probably messing up my Conditional Translations, and DeMorgan's Law somehow... Can someone help?

If you negate "B" doesn't it ruin the argument (therefore, it's necessary)? If I say "it's not the case that the quality of a university education is dependent on the amount of tuition charged by the university," then wouldn't it mean that prospective students and their parents don't view that that's the case. So, for the University President to conclude that raising tuition and fees would lead to a larger application pool, is wrong, because it's not the case that the quality of education is dependent on the amount of tuition charged by the university? #Help

@ said:

I think you should accept the premises as true, as it will pay off 99% of the time. I've done probably 50+ PTs worth of LR questions, and I can only think of maybe two or three instances where I've heard JY and other commenters on explanation videos consider the possibility that the correct answer choice attacked a premise. Even in those cases, there was usually a way to interpret the correct AC in a way that it didn't attack the premise.

I don't think that accepting the premises as true prevents you from prephrasing, however. It's absolutely reasonable to say to yourself something along the lines of, "Okay, while the premises may be 100% true, they still lend very little support to the conclusion." Additionally, you can accept the premises as true and still question how "powerful" they are. For example, in a Must Be True question, the argument may say something like, "the apple the scientists grew is the largest in recorded history." Then, an incorrect answer choice may say "there has never been a larger apple than the one the scientists grew." It would be incorrect because the premise simply wouldn't be "powerful" enough to prove it. While the scientist's apple may very well be the largest in "recorded history," that doesn't mean it's the largest apple ever. Just the largest apple that we know about.

Sorry for the long-winded response but I hope this helps some!

Thank you, Matt, for your response! I've been beating myself up lately about my LR approach. I will be accepting the premises as true! I know it's been stressed (especially on LSAT Demon) to prephrase before you check the AC's (and to even NOT read the question stem beforehand). When I'm reading an argument in the stimulus, I do question the strength of the evidence (premises), but whenever I've prephased before checking the AC's, I'm usually way off. Maybe I'm just lazy/obsessed with the clock, but other than asking "but, why?" when identifying the premises/conclusion, I go straight to the ACs. Do you have any advice? Could this be why I'm missing -4/-6 in an LR section? After completing all those PT's worth of LR questions, what do you think works best?

RC Question Types

Hello!

I'm wondering if there are any lessons on these specific RC question types?

(1) Inference

(2) Inference -Author's Perspective

(3) Recognition -What's Stated

Can someone explain what these question types are asking us to do, and if you have any tips on how to identify the right AC? Has anyone recognized any wrong AC patterns when it comes to these question types?

Thanks so much!

LR Questions Approach/Strategy

Is it safe to say that on the LSAT we always have to accept the premises as true? When I do an LR section, I don't usually take the time to "attack" arguments and prephrase. I basically quickly glance at the question stem, read the argument (identifying the conclusion and evidence), and then, I go straight to the AC's. Maybe, I'm too obsessed with timing. Generally, I -6 on LR. Does anyone have any strategies, or suggestions?
