LR issues during PTs

Hi everyone! I am one month from test day and I'm struggling with LR on PTs. I am solid on all of the theory and CC. Every time I do an untimed section I get almost everything right (-1 to -2). However, during my PTs, every time I hit an LR section I start to miss questions. I usually finish the section on time, but I am still seeing -6 to -7 wrong on each LR section. Does anyone have advice?? I've been studying for a very long time and have seen almost all LR questions.

Study Abroad Grades and GPA

Hey all! I'm thinking about my chances at a T20 and reflecting on my undergraduate transcript. I graduated cum laude with a 3.6 from a top tier liberal arts college. I graduated early and also studied abroad for a full year. My study abroad grades are not factored into my undergraduate GPA and LSAC also does not factor them in. If they had been factored in, I would have received a 3.8 GPA.

How are top law schools going to look at this? Are they really going to see me as a 3.6 or will they consider that full year of study abroad? My study abroad accounts for about 1/3 of my undergraduate coursework so I'm not sure how schools look at this. Is this something I should address in an addendum?

Re my LSAT score, I'm really more towards the low 25% for these schools, so I would be a splitter.

What helped me the most in getting more questions right on hard passages is focusing on the 1) low-resolution summaries 2) structure of the passage/relationships between paragraphs (thanks JY!)

Also, in my experience, putting more time into reading the passage up front as opposed to skimming the passage pays off in the end. The more time you spend up front on the passage, the quicker you will be able to answer the Qs!

Remember, when you are going through the answer choices do not spend time disconfirming each answer choice. Pick the AC or ACs (max 2) that you are seriously considering and confirm just those ones in the passage. Pick and move on!

Another one of my personal timing strategies (although I don't know if it will work for others) is to leave the comparison passage to do last. This is because if I am running out of time I can hope to get at least the questions right that only concern passage A.

I hope these tips help. They have helped me. Good luck!!

Pens or Pencils for Digital LSAT?

I know we can bring regular pencils to the exam (it's printed on the admission ticket) but can we also bring pens? Or is LSAC providing pens?

For the stylus/pen they are providing - is it a decent pen? As in, will we want to use it over the pencils so we don't have to go back and forth?

Also, just to confirm - we still can't bring mechanical pencils right??

This is super helpful! It's great to have this confirmation and guidance.

I definitely have found that some of the CC is ultra-familiar and it wouldn't be the best use of my time to go through all of it extensively. I also agree with taking a "diagnostic" PT (one of the few that I haven't seen) to get a better idea of what my score would look like. Also good to have confirmation that going through old PTs is still good practice.

Thank you so much for your help!

I just took India PT2 today thanks to friends on 7Sage who told me to use it as extra study material given that I ran out of traditional PTs! I agree with @. I probably got a few more questions right on this test than I normally would. Since I ran out of material to study with, this was a good option for me. However, I would suggest using other US LSAT material first!!

@ thanks for this great advice!

I'm actually doing my fourth take, too! I took a couple years off in between and I'm applying to law school this cycle. I'm retaking in a couple of weeks and going to take PTs in the 60s that I haven't seen in a while given your advice.

I also only saw PT81 on one of my actual test days so haven't seen it in like 2 years. Will take that one this week. Then, next week I'm going to crank out my last unseen PT - PT88 - in preparation for the actual exam on Nov 25.

I'm solid on LG, RC I always miss a few (but let's face it, RC has gotten harder and I'm willing to lose a few points there), so I really need to minimize my LR mistakes. I'm going to go back over all the LR questions I missed. I think that's a good strategy.

HUGE THANK YOU!!

@ agreed! Except Prep Test 1 on the India website seems SO awfully similar to the June 2007 sample PT... I am going to do India PTs 2 and 3!!

Retaking is definitely good, and I still miss some questions during retakes which means that I can still learn from them. Thanks everyone!

@ it's good to practice with questions you've seen to understand general patterns, but what I've found is that seeing the pattern in a new context always throws me off a smudge which is why I am constantly looking for new material. the new material simulates more what test day will look like and we should be striving to create those conditions as closely as possible! But I still think practicing with both types of material is good. Going over mistakes is key.

September retake - help with study schedule

Hi everyone! I need some advice on what my study should focus on before the September 2019 test. I’ve taken the LSAT twice before, with an 10 point increase on my last try - to a 164. My goal is anywhere between 167-170.

I have actually taken a long hiatus between my last test and now (it’s been 1.5 years). I didn’t think I would retake, but am applying to law school this year and want to aim for T14 so would like to increase my score (even just by a few points), if possible. [strong softs, strong undergrad]

I’ve taken EVERY prep test before PT 81 (albeit more than 1.5 years ago) and am worried that practicing with old PTs that I’ve taken won’t be good enough practice because I’ve seen all of the questions before. I’m leaving all of the new PTs that I haven’t taken yet for mid August - September.

I’m going through the core curriculum now and am halfway done. I need to do this to refresh my memory on strategy, etc. What are your guys’ suggestions in terms of a study schedule after I’m done with the CC? Does it make sense to continue practicing with old PTs? Do you think taking a PT that I’ve seen before is still a good indicator of score?

Also, should I be drilling sections AND doing the CC right now given that the test is only 2.5 months away? Or just finish the CC before moving onto PTs?

I really appreciate your help!

LSAT Retakers - No More Study Material

For all LSAT retakers - if you have seen all PTs at one point or another - what is the best material to study with? Is going back to the PTs you have seen still worthwhile? I figured that I should at least focus on the last 20 or so PTs.

Is there other good prep test material out there with PTs that are comparable to actual LSATs? I'm just trying to get as much practice as possible! I haven't seen PT88 - but leaving this for a couple weeks before my actual exam date. Thanks in advance!!

I think I am being too much of a perfectionist and trying to answer even the most difficult questions - as in I need pick and answer and move on, focus on the low-hanging fruit. It's my mindset that I need to change!

99thPercentileOrDieTryin -- which Translation drill are you talking about? Are you talking about the valid arguments??
