Yes, I felt like the Dennis character was saying something like "women just stay home and cook," and the author was like "no no no, these women actually kick some serious ass." Then he uses madame whatever her name is to illustrate that point and bolster his conclusion.

Hey boss, they didn't explicitly say that the Mashpee had an oral deed. They had an oral tradition. I think the passage was driving at the idea that the Mashpee didn't have a deed at all. E is correct because if the property was purchased by non-residents, then they'd technically be new residents after purchasing the land from the town. This is what the Mashpee are protesting. New people coming in and buying land from the town that is technically theirs. They are just missing the legal formalities (the deed etc.) because they are unique to american democratic culture
