Hi Juan! My name is Marie. I’m about to start studying and I live/work in the Civic Center area as well! Are you still interested/searching for a study buddy!?

Thank you!

Since I’ll have less time at the beginning of the year, would you recommend I begin with the “starter” course, and upgrading when I have more time/capacity (around June)? Or should I just start with the highest package I can afford, regardless of how much time I can dedicate to studying now?

The Course Options and Time Commitment

Hi everyone!

I'm pretty much set on beginning my LSAT studying using 7sage - yay! I'm hoping to take the test in either September or November. However, work will be very busy for the next ~4 months, so I'll have less time to study during the first half of the year as compared to the second half of the year.

How much time should be dedicated to each course option? (Does it even make sense for me to ask this question? I don't know how the courses work.) I know they allow for a "personalized schedule," but I imagine that a general amount of time should be dedicated to studying with course per week/month.

Essentially, I'd like to figure out whether to save the 7Sage course for later this year when I'll have more capacity.

Thank you kindly!

Thank you so much for your thorough response, it really helps a lot! Did you find studying with both Powerscore and 7Sage to be complementary where the different approaches helped to solidify the information better? Once you got to 5 sections, did you throw in a writing sample as well, just to get used to having to churn it out at the end?

At this point, do you think it would be detrimental to still take in September considering where I am? I'm already registered and I want to stay positive so that I'm motivated to continue studying, but I need to be real with the fact that there's not a lot of time and it's unlikely I'll get to my target score by then.

Thanks again for your help! Happy Friday!

Hi!

Any chance you're in the West Coast/Bay Area - I ask because it sounds like we're in a very similar place with our progress/studying and think it might be great for us to stay in touch and share tips!

I've finished the CC and recently started PTing. My first two PT scores are just around where my diagnostic score came in, but my BR scores are pretty much at my target score. So I'm similarly trying to craft my plan for the next several weeks.

I'm also registered for the September test, but it's beginning to really dawn on me just how much prep and practice will be needed to raise my scores up to my goal.

Thanks for the thoughtful post that includes many of the questions swirling in my mind, and sorry to piggy back!

-Marie

Yes to everything said above!

I would also add being more mindful and careful about your phone.. If you're anything like me, I feel random urges to check it and social media for no good reason. It's so easy to lose track of how often we break our focus or interrupt what we're doing to check our phones. I believe that being better about resisting this particular focus-breaking habit will help!

Hi friends!

Trying to stay cheerful after my trainwreck of a practice test today. I’m wondering if any other folks saw a drop between their diagnostic test score abd their first practice test score (after completing the core curriculum).

What you're describing sounds pretty typical for a lot of people.

Until the strategies you've learned become more intuitive, which comes with time and drilling, trying to implement the strategies is another thing that you have to consciousely think about while you're writing your test, causing you to move at a slower pace or second guess yourself on questions that before you might have had a gut reaction that proved to be correct.

That being said, continue with the strategies. Having a solid attack plan for each question-type is one of the most effective ways to avoid confusing score fluctuations as you continue to improve. Especially since many of the trap answer that the test writers plant are based on what might intuitively seem write, but is clearly wrong when considered more analytically.

So, don't be discouraged! :)

Thank you!

My disappointing results from my first post-CC PT sent me into a very dark place last night, but this morning I'm feeling determined to keep on going. It was a good wake up call that this will take A LOT of very hard work...

Thank you for the tips and reassurance :)

Lower than My Diagnostic

Hi friends!

Trying to stay cheerful after my trainwreck of a practice test today. I’m wondering if any other folks saw a drop between their diagnostic test score abd their first practice test score (after completing the core curriculum).

I’m planning on taking the September test, but today’s results have me freaked out about whether I’ll be scoring where I want to be by test day.

I didn’t feel as alert/“on” during today’s test as I did for the diagnostic. I also think I was trying too hard to use things I learned from the CC that it slowed me down further. Timing was definitely a big issue as I didn’t finish any of the sections.

Words of wisdom/encouragement to help keep the hope alive will be greatly appreciated. :(

@ I totally hear you that a few more points can change my results, so I am leaning toward retaking and reapplying. I totally believe I still have more in me than how I've prepared for performed on the test.

@ Agreed. I currently don't have any money on the table, so there really is very little to lose and only more to gain from R&R.

@ Totally will "go ham" haha. I've learned my lesson. Also, I hear the LSAT flex doesn't count toward your take limit.

@ Thank you! Attending one of these schools would just make me so happy, so I do think I'll try one more time!

Hi all - thank you in advance if you chime in to help (and for bearing with my long post).

Admittedly, disappointed with how my cycle went - A: UC Hastings W: UC Davis, Emory, Notre Dame R: handful of schools ranked above Notre Dame. Also, no money from UC Hastings, even after appealing. I am riding out the waitlists, but not optimistic.

My application history: GPA 3.5x, LSAT high 15x. Over the span of a year, I took the LSAT 3 times - used 7sage to study! I feel I have a compelling personal statement, good work experience (will have worked 5 years in government doing policy and finance), and strong letters of recommendations. I do think I left points on the table for the LSAT - I was PTing low-mid 160s. I also failed to apply early, submitting some apps as late as February. So I would focus on improving these two areas if I reapply.

Goals: Ideally attend law school in CA, and work in CA. Interested in public/government law like US Attorney’s Office, but also interested in Big Law (transactional) as I can see that being a great field in Bay Area tech sector. UC Berkeley was/is the dream, but I visited UCLA and pictured myself happy there too.

Other considerations on my mind:

I know deep down that I want to be a lawyer, so I will go to law school.

It has already felt like such a long process, so I hate the idea of another year, but if it makes sense, I’m willing to do it. And Oct/Nov is not that far away now...

I do think my mindset will be different. I’ll push harder, and will have the lessons and experience from the first cycle, motivating me to do better.

Financially, my family cannot support my education. I have some savings, and another year of work will definitely help. I feel pretty confident about my job security for the next year.

UC Hastings is a solid regional school, but I still have reservations about paying sticker!

But what if next cycle does turn out to be even more competitive?

Still, with 1 A, no money, and better application execution and strategy, I can only do better right?! Thank you.

@ for the kind of practice that you list at the end of your post (time management strategies, improving return on potential, and closing gap b/w timed and BR scores) are there good posts/any other resources you'd recommend for this? (and apologies everyone, for going on a bit of a tangent)

@ I'm in the same boat (challenging life circumstances that made it very difficult to keep grades up during a semester or so) and now having to rely on a close-to-perfect LSAT score (also planning on taking the September test) - so I pray for things to go well for us both!!!

@ Hi there! You and I seem to be in similar situations! I'm sitting for the Sept 8 test, will try my best on it, but fairly certain I'll be sitting in November too. Your retake study plan is very close to what I came up with for myself too! Any chance you're in the Bay Area or interested in trying to be accountability buddies?!

Hi there! I took the September LSAT, and my account expires on 10/13 (the day before scores come out). I won't know for sure whether I'll need to extend until I see how I did. If I let my account expire, will all my data be lost if I decide to repurchase later?
