Advice: Variation in Scores

Hi everyone

I am trying to study for the upcoming August test and have been doing problem sets throughout the week. Last week I would complete a LR problem set and average 2-3 wrong out of 25-26 questions. This past week, it's dropped to 5-7 wrong seemingly out of nowhere. Habits and eating schedule have stayed the same, and I just took a practice test and got the most amount of questions wrong since 4-5 months ago. Upon review I understand my mistake and will answer the question right, but in the moment I don't know where that line of thinking goes. Feeling super defeated. Any advice?

I have the same issue - managed to up my score into the low 160s from high 150s but stuck there since. What would you say are your big weaknesses?

Definitely LR. I feel super confident at RC, but my RC score doesn't really reflect that. I will usually understand why I got a question wrong, but I don't know if that is translating to the other preptests :(

Yeah. I suggest looking at the R/LSAT forum. It is really insane there is a lot of people who saw significant score decreases. I was consistently scoring a 164-165 and got a 161. The last time I received a score like that I had a panic attack mid test and didn’t finish 2 sections. It looks like they are trying to compensate for score inflation and test takers are dealing with the consequences of it.

Breaking the Low 160's Plateau

I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to overcome the low 160's plateau. I have been consistently scoring 160-163 on my past tests. I am on a schedule of taking 2 preptests a week and have not been seeing improvement. I began focusing on taking problem sets on the specific areas of LR that I was having issues with (Flaw, Weakening) and though I do see myself getting less of those questions wrong, now I am getting an entirely new set of questions wrong (MCC, Strengthening)

Usually my LR and RC will average 4-6 wrong on each test and my LG is around 3-5. I purchased loophole and am in the process of going through it but I am feeling a bit hopeless as I am aiming to take the April test with a goal score of 167-169. I am thinking of completely stopping preptesting and focusing on my foundational skills, but I just don't know the best way to go about this.

I try to rephrase both the stimulus and the answer choices extremely low-resolution. I say to myself "Ok, the stimulus is saying X, the question is asking for Y" and I try and predict an answer choice without looking at the choices themselves. Even if the prediction is off it can serve as a good jumping point/template for the right answer choice. In the event I can't predict, and/or I am torn between 2 equally attractive choices, I paraphrase each answer into the most simplest form and compare them against my low-resolution stimulus summary and pick the one that fits the most into what the question is asking.

Another good strategy is to compare the two answer choices and understand what scope is each trying to approach and accomplish. Is one focusing on one part of the stimulus and the other is very big picture, etc? Comparing the approaches of both answers to one another can help decipher trap choices. Re-identifying the argument also helps, I find myself getting stuck between 2 choices when I didn't really understand what the argument was/what it was exactly saying.
