Calling out to all Dec. test takers!!

Everyone is nervous about this coming Saturday - right? It's not just me?

I have been studying for at least a year now, and am as prepared as I'll ever be. But I'm still a big pile of nerves going in. Not so much about the exam setting and real test conditions, but for what will actually be on the exam. J.Y. says to stay calm and not panic in the event of an unusual/surprise question, but even if one is to remain calm, you still need to be able to work your way through the question. I can stay calm. But I'm worried about getting "stumped."

Everyone writing the December exam, please share your feelings! I'm so up and down, emotionally, that I can't even sit still. And it's only Tuesday. SOS.

Help! Curriculum; time to completion?

Hi guys,

I am looking to get a few answers on how long it took everybody to complete the curriculum?

I am completing mine slower than expected, and would like to set some deadlines/goals in order to make sure I finish the entire curriculum in time to do enough PT's/BR's before the December LSAT. Any advice on how many hours I should be putting in a day (with a part-time job)? I seriously find it hard to tackle question explanation after question explanation (incl. my own BR and comments for why each answer is correct/incorrect) and the sections I have recently gone through are exactly this. Going through the q's in such detail only captures my attention for so long before calling it quits for the night. Any suggestions?

Thank you!!

Demorgan Law: Help

Just some Confusion on statement with both "and" and "or" in the stimulus. For example how would I draw a conditional statement with a stimulus like "If A or B than C and D" and ho would you negate this statement as well. may be a dumb question but having trouble drawing it out, especially while splitting the 'or" in the Sufficient and the "and" in the necessary

I'm in the exact same boat! Re-applying this year and would only be wanting to tweak my PS from last year. I love what I wrote and I think I will stick to that. Just adding on an LSAT re-write and some extra curriculars/volunteering.

Great find!

I definitely run into times on the LSAT where over-thinking is an issue.

It's usually when I run into an LR question with a seemingly over-complex stimulus. Naturally, I take a few extra seconds to make sure I understand it, before then going on to read through 4 completely ridiculous answer choices and 1 so OBVIOUSLY correct.

Overthinking is an LSAT writer's worst enemy.

A great big thank you :)

Hey guys,

Just wanted to give a big shout out to Alan for hosting our 7sage event last Thursday night in Toronto, Ontario. I know it's safe to say on behalf of everyone that attended that we all had a great time and appreciate your efforts to bring us all together to finally meet face to face.

To all that could not make it, there is still lots of time to exchange contact info and set up local group sessions :)

If those of you are not as email-savvy as myself, feel free to use this thread to get in contact with students in this area. You can also message me directly if interested in future studying.

Here are a couple of photos from the night (sorry to all who left before this)...

pics to come....

Where to find PT 79?

Hey there,

Anyone have any suggestions on where I can (quickly) purchase PT 79? I am hoping to have it in time to write before the December exam. I am already on the wait-list for Amazon where it is out of stock (Canada).

U.S. Amazon usually doesn't ship to where I am in Canada.

Thanks in advance!

Ontario Law Schools - LSAT Information

Hey guys,

To those who have been confused about the evaluation process around writing Dec (or previous LSAT) and potentially writing Feb (or future LSAT), I may have some answers for you.

Personally, I just wrote the December exam. But, I have indicated on OLSAS (Ontario Law School Application Service) that I will also be writing in Feb. I see it purely as another chance to improve my mark, whatever that may be, from the Dec. exam. If I am set on fall 2017 admissions, it won't hurt to try and get a higher mark, and let's face it, there is always room for a higher mark.

My dilemma was this: I would hate to be rejected on the basis of my Dec. score when I might be able to improve for Feb. I worried that schools may open my app prior to Feb, and base their decision solely on my Dec. score b/c my application would be considered complete. (Ottawa... you suck)

On the other hand, I would also hate to miss the opportunity to be accepted if my app is not evaluated until late Feb. That is, if the schools see that my application is "complete" but that I have indicated I will be writing in Feb, they may put my app on hold and therefore, not make any decision until early March.

WELL folks, if anyone was in this boat, which I know some of you were... I hope the following info on ONTARIO law schools helps. Here are the answers I obtained after calling the following schools:

1) Ottawa University - Application evaluated once opened. If there is a previous LSAT score on file, they will NOT consider future plans to re-write, even if indicated on OLSAS. (e.g. Feb. exam). ... BOO!

2) Western University - If you have a previous strong mark and they are happy with the rest of your app, they will not wait until Feb. Admission will be offered. If mark on file not strong, they will hold off and re-evaluate once Feb. mark comes in.

3) Osgoode Hall - Same as above. If you have a previous strong mark and they are happy with the rest of your app, they will not wait until Feb. Admission will be offered. If mark on file not strong, they will hold off and re-evaluate once Feb. mark comes in.

4) Queens - Left emails, voicemails. Away for holidays.

*Update* - "We will not decline applicants, based on LSAT, until after the February results. If a new score is posted that make you competitive, you will be considered then."

5) UofT - Left emails, voicemails. Away for holidays.

*Update* - Application put on HOLD if indicated on OLSAS that you are writing at a later date.

6) Windsor - Left email. --- *EDIT* @LSAT04164 has advised Windsor does not accept Feb scores. December last date accepted.

*Did not apply to Thunder Bay.

Forgot to include source - I called LSAC last week as I was also in the dark. I was surprised they mailed out the performance reports last month with no mention of the refund process.

I was told they mail the refund check after the official score has been released. Wasn't given a time frame, but score must come first to ensure no cancellation, and then the refund will be granted.

PT 80 explanations release date?

Hi all,

Sorry if this has already been asked and/or answered.

Any idea when the PT80 explanations will be coming out, particularly LR (not just games)? I am going over and BR'ing my December exam and I am extremely stuck on a couple of the questions.

I don't think this is a spoiler... but in my opinion, the LR sections seriously increased in difficulty from even just the early 70's. Instead of planting a couple insanely difficult q's spread out across the test or near the end, there were times when it was quite early in the test and there were 3 mind-boggling insane questions all back to back.

I'm writing in Feb. I know I'd benefit going into the next test knowing that I thoroughly reviewed the most recent PT and fully understood where I got tripped up.

Thanks in advance.

After posting, I was trying to strategize on my own and came up with a similar method.

Even if I read the first questions, say #1-3 slower than usual, I still would likely SAVE time in the long run than if I were to read at regular speed and have to re-read those same three questions anyway.

Thank you @ & @! Will definitely be trying this out

Calling out to my fellow Canadians :)

Hey guys!

I'm still a bit new to this website, so I apologize if there are other threads that are similar to this one. I'm looking to see if there are any students close to the Toronto area that are planning to write the December 2015 LSAT. Which law schools are you interested in applying to, and what mark are you hoping to achieve? I am not certain on where I would like to go just yet, and am instead focusing on obtaining a high score on the upcoming test.

Would love to chat with fellow students in the area. Always nice to talk to other students about their plans and/or experiences :)

How to absorb info on test day

Hey all,

Recently saw a post in the forum about how to make sure you absorb the information from each question. Although that was more along the lines of doing so while studying, I'm wondering what everyone uses as a technique to do so on test day?

December will be my third and final write. Now that I'm used to what to expect on test day, I'm well aware of the anxiety that it brings for me (and I would assume, many other people). This usually translates into having trouble fully absorbing info for the first few questions. Once I'm a few questions in, I'm usually ok.

I personally will be warming up before the real test to make sure my brain is warmed up. That seems to help.

Was wondering if anyone had any other helpful tips?

Thanks for sharing! :)

Just wrote 68 last week. I have also been focusing on foolproofing games, particularly in the last 3-4 weeks. LG still threw me off, and although I was able to finish the 1st and 2nd games in record time (10min), it took me the entire rest of the time to complete the 3rd and 4th. I have heavily reviewed each. I'm pretty sure the problem was that I had missed a key inference, as I was brute forcing my way through each question and it was simply taking way too long!

In conclusion - you're not alone. LG was tricky. But, I see it as a positive. That's two more trickier games that I will know inside and out going into December.

Good luck! :)

Reading Comp Frustration

Hi all,

I'm doing really well with LG/LR and am consistently improving in these areas.

RC, however, is a completely different story.

Quick background: I have been studying on and off since Dec. 2015, while working full-time & part-time simultaneously. Right now, I'm doing about 2 PT's and 2 BR's/week. I wrote Dec. 2016 and Feb 2017. I improved about 5 points on the latest write, putting me just barely at the average score for students (huge disappointment). Because it wasn't enough for admissions in Ontario, I am giving it another shot and writing in December again.

RC is still by far my weakest section. No matter what I do, I cannot seem to improve on timing. I find it so difficult to obtain enough info from the passages AND accurately answer all of the questions in under 7-9 min/passage. Along with the RC curriculum (which I plan to redo this week) I have turned to the Trainer. I consistently see the same advice: focus on the WHY, not the WHAT. Ok, easy, so I read and get a general idea of reasoning structure, relationships between paragraphs, fine. As soon as I do that, I run into EASILY 3-4 questions asking for specific meanings of words in sentences, or details from the passage. I have a general idea of where to find all of these details but I end up referring to the passage to re-read the necessary sentence anyway. Everything about RC is sucking up time for me. Long story short, I am finding RC impossible these days to the point that when I'm writing a test and I see RC, I immediately panic.

My shortcomings in RC have been mentally draining to the point that I have days where I wonder if law school is even for me. This kind of thought process is so far from my usual way of thinking that I am beyond frustrated with both myself and the exam. I do not give up. Anyone who knows me knows that I will make law school happen whether or not it's now or three years from now. I'm not changing my mind for anything or anyone. The LSAT, though, has made me come close.

It has a way of making you feel like such a failure, and I find myself putting in daily effort to change this mindset.

SOS people!!! Please helppp

Video Recordings?

Hey everyone,

Sorry if this has been posted previously but I wasn't able to find any threads relating to actual video recordings of people taking timed LSATs. I do know they exist, as I've seen people referring to those in the past on the 7sage discussion board. I'm at the point in my studying where it would be super beneficial to watch a top scorer go through the test and see their timing strategy.

Thanks in advance!

If it helps in any way, you aren't alone. I know there's many of us on here that have had similar experiences to yours. Personally, I have been at the studying for 1.5 years, while working 60 hour weeks + volunteering. I am just over the 1.5 year mark now, re-writing in December.

I wrote December 2016 and February 2017 and both were discouraging.

I had the exact same thing happen to me in February, where I was just completely unable to retain any information, even after reading the sentences over and over. All it took was one section of this to throw me off the rest. It cost me another year of law school admissions ($ spent on applications, LSAT prep, and most importantly, TIME). It has been an insanely discouraging process, and even to this day, I have days where I question whether or not it's worth it.

My advice to you is this:

First, remember that you're not alone - the support on here is incredible! It reminds me every single day that there are others going through the same struggle and that I need to keep at it.

Secondly, stay positive as much as possible and don't let the test bring down your level of determination. Success doesn't earn itself. It is earned through struggle, hardship, and eventually: accomplishment! We all can do this!

Analytics

Hey guys,

I'm new to the analytics on 7sage.

If I input one section and press "save & continue," wishing to input the other sections at a later stage, will this affect my overall analytics? For example, I just entered section 1 for PT 48. As I BR the next sections, I will go back in and enter the rest. However, my current score says 21.8% correct, and a score of 128 (if I remember correctly).

I am assuming this will change once more information has been entered and my real average will then be reflected, right? Just hoping this won't affect my scores once I have entered more PT's.

Is there a better way to do this?

I can relate @. I've been studying for 1.5 years, feel prepared and still have a hard time getting through the day without thinking about the pressure ahead. In my opinion, no amount of preparation will ever truly take that away. I've also written twice. Whether or not it's your first take, or your last, the nerves are real.

I'm pretty sure it was @ who suggested this book: "Performing Under Pressure - Hendrie Weisinger" -- https://www.amazon.com/Performing-Under-Pressure-Science-Matters/dp/B00SYZR4AW.

I ordered it on Amazon and it has been incredibly helpful so far

LG progress

Hey,

Just getting into LG curriculum and wondering if everyone else started off extremely slow too? I find that I'm spending way too much time on certain questions with the obvious intention of improving my speed as I go along.

Does everyone start off this way? It's kind of discouraging, but the bright side is that I AM understanding what I'm learning, and with the additional time, I seem to come up with the right answer about 90-95% of the time. By the way, not talking about a whole lot of time - just a couple extra minutes per game than what would be expected on test day.

Thanks for the advice!

Advantage for Sept. v. December LSAT?

Hi guys,

I'm sure this has already been discussed on 7sage.. however, I have been out of the 7sage loop for a couple of months and am not too sure where to find this, if that is the case.

I'm wondering.. are there any advantages (or disadvantages) for Sept. test-takers v. Dec. in regards to the admission process? I'm debating between the two for consideration to law school Sept. 2017. Obviously, Dec. would be favourable due to the additional study time, but if Sept. is advantageous for e.g. early admissions, more spots available etc., I would definitely consider this.

Any advice and/or information is welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Maxine

What will this pep rally consist of?? Motivational discussions?

Hey there,

Does anyone have any information regarding Canadian law schools and their tendency to consider the February LSAT?

I'm all of a sudden feeling super unprepared for December, and haven't been able to kick that feeling this past weekend. However, waiting until applying for the 2017 admissions cycle is not an option for me. I need to be certain that if I wait for Feb to write (knowing very well that I have a better chance of obtaining a higher score), that I have a chance of still getting in for 2016.

If you have any info and/or experience with this, it is very much appreciated! Thanks!
