Jump in Score: Fluke or..?

Hi everyone! :)

I've been really wary about taking the June LSAT mostly because I started the Ultimate Course in January and although I feel better about attacking the questions, I haven't been able to score much higher than a 158 (after about 3 practice tests). However, I took PT38 last weekend and scored a 164 and 169 with BR. This is shocking because in the over 2 years that I've been semi-studying for the LSAT, I've never been able to break 160!

So naturally, I was excited but cautious (even Googled whether PT38 was easier than the rest lol!). Just last week, I had thought about pushing back the test to October but now I'm thinking maybe I can do June.

I guess what I'm wondering is this: Have any of you gone up so suddenly in scores? If so, were you able to maintain this score increase or was that kind of the maximum score you reached?

Thanks!

Hey @! If I were you, I would strongly consider waiting until the October test. I've taken the LSAT once before and decided not to sign up for the June LSAT because I knew I could do better in October after having had more time. Also, I was worried about the way that 3 different scores would look to the schools I plan on applying to.

Ultimately, it's up to you but if you're not willing to settle for "just a good enough" score and want to do the best you can, I'd push to October.

Whatever you choose, best of luck! :)

I'd have to agree with @.hopkins here. I started doing PT 75 this morning as a timed test, finished one section and found myself getting distracted and freaked out on RC about what I would get. Ended up stopping and will complete the rest of it either untimed or timed 2 sections. Just say no to PTs this week and beast PT 76 this Saturday!

Bumping to see if the recording will be up soon! Thanks!!

Hi everyone!

After fluctuations in PT scores (My most recent was a 158, BR 167 after a high of 166, BR 175-yikes!) I've pretty much decided that I will not be taking the June LSAT. With such a variance in my score range, it just doesn't seem stable enough. Plus, the closest testing center is all full anyway...

Anyway, I'm at the point where I'm wondering how to keep myself motivated and make sure my head is in the game. There is still plenty of time before the October LSAT but I'm not sure how to go about utilizing my time in the best way possible. I've started typing out my reasoning for eliminating LR answer choices but it seems to take forever and I'm not really sure that my reasoning is even correct (another question: how to best attack and eliminate wrong LR ACs?). I've gone through the fundamentals again and feel stronger with lawgic but lawgic isn't always the easiest way to approach an LR question.

I would like to have my apps in by Thanksgiving but that means working on personal statements while studying and working full-time. I'm just afraid I'm going to burn out! These past few weeks, I've been slacking on studying because I've resigned myself to not taking the June test and I'm worried that this will happen throughout the rest of the summer months as well. What are all of you October/December test-takers doing to stay motivated and how can I best utilize the remaining time to make sure that my score doesn't plummet down?

Thank you for your help :) I really feel comforted by the stories and questions I see in the 7Sage Discussion Forum!

Hey @ I'm in the same boat as you. However, I think based on your LG breakdown, you can definitely drill the LG bundle and use @'s attack strategy to get a few more points from the LG section.

My breakdown from this test was -11 and -9 in LR, respectively (I usually get -4 to -5) bc I wasn't prepared for the abundance of NA questions. -8 on RC bc I totally blew the last passage and -2 on LG. Ended up with a 158, when I was averaging a 161 for the past few months. @ and @ do you guys think it's possible to get back into the 160s in the next month even though my LG score is much better than the other sections?

I haven't heard bad things about USF but I loved my experience at SCU the first time I took the test. So convenient.

I'm not sure about logistics yet. Almost tempted to just stay in SF the night before since I work there. We'll see :/

@ hmm I wish I had looked into the other rooms during the break but I was so focused on beating the lines at the restroom lol. I'm not sure about the rooms being different. If it helps, when I took it, it was on the Lone Mountain campus. Might be worth checking it out before the test.

The Memory Method TOTALLY WORKS! I went from getting so many wrong at the beginning of the problem set to none wrong on the last passage. Thanks JY and 7Sage for opening my eyes to a better, more active method of reading! Might have to start doing this for everything I read now...

UGH I KNOW! I was so ready to sign up for Santa Clara since I took it there last time and it was fine.

I'm going to trek to USF. Such a hassle...Good luck!

That's awesome, congratulations! Just curious: How did you spend your week dedicating yourself to RC? I'm finding it difficult to improve on this section as well.

Hey there,

I'm in the Bay Area and man, am I bummed that SCU isn't a testing center anymore.

However, I just took the October test at USF and it wasn't so bad. They had about 10 of us in an small classroom and spaced us out well. We had one proctor and two assistants in the room and I felt like it was run fairly well. Hope that helps!

Halppp

Hi everyone!

I started 7Sage's Ultimate Course January 1st (I really took my New Year's resolution of actually studying to heart lol) and have worked my way through almost all of it. I skipped the logic game sections as I went through the course because I didn't have time to foolproof since I work full time. Now I'm going back and working through the games.

My problem is this: I began the course with the aim of taking the June 2015 test. However, I am now a few weeks behind in the curriculum and have yet to take a practice test (it's almost March--yikes!). I'm not willing to take this test until I am scoring where I want to be scoring on the PTs (mid-high 160s would be ideal) since I've already taken the test once. Would it make sense to just hold off until October? I work full-time but I'm almost at the point where I'm willing to take time off to study (ie find a new job/opportunity after finishing apps). At the same time, it'd be nice to get the June test done so that I can take all summer to work on rounding up letters of rec and working on essays.

What do you guys think? What has been your experience in finishing up the course and then taking practice tests-is there enough time to improve by the June test?

Thanks so much for your help! I really enjoy this community-oriented discussion page. It really makes you feel like we're all on the same boat, albeit going at different rates haha :)

Extra Practice on Top of Lessons?

Hi guys!

I started the Ultimate course about a few weeks ago and I work full-time. I've been getting up at around 5 AM to do the lessons until about 7:30 AM. I realized that when I try to study after work, it's much harder, especially when people are awake at home and I'm super tired from the commute and work.

My question is: Should I be working on something other than the lessons each day? I go through the lessons and do the practice sets (if applicable) but I'm not sure if I should be doing more. I took a TestMasters class a couple years ago that required 4-hr classes twice a week and hours and hours of homework on top of that. I'm not seeing anything like that with 7Sage and I just wanted to check in and make sure I'm not missing anything like important practice.

Even if there's no practice required, how do you all study while doing the lessons? Review notes or do problems all over again?

Thanks so much for your help!

Cambridge LSAT FYI

Hi Everyone!

Just a heads up. Got the below email from Cambridge LSAT regarding their LSAT content.

"You may have seen the announcement on our website, but just in case, please see the points below.

Our license to sell LSAT materials to the "general public" has been revoked, and as of August 15th, we will no longer be selling official PrepTest content in either digital form or paperback form. Should you have any questions about LSAC's digital content policy, please inquire with them directly.

We will continue to offer downloadable explanations for a broad range of PrepTests.

Our bookstore will remain open for purchase of mostly non-Cambridge paperbacks and Kindle eBooks.

We have a very limited number of the Ultimate LSAT Prep Package (paperback) bundle at a special discount. These won't last long!

Complete explanations for the Official LSAT PrepTest 75 (June 2015) are available for instant download.

It has been our pleasure providing high-quality downloadable materials over the past six years, and unfortunately, there wasn't a way to both satisfy LSAC's requirements and keep our downloads free from onerous restrictions. If you feel, like we do, that LSAC's digital policy is unnecessarily restrictive and harms students preparing for the test, please voice your disapproval. If enough students express discontent with the status quo, LSAC might reconsider its position.

Sincerely,

Cambridge LSAT"

TL;DR their license expires on August 15th so if you plan on using Cambridge for drilling and/or tests, plan to buy before then!

I'm interested in transactional/corporate law in the entertainment or sports sector. Those are just two of the areas I'm passionate about but I'm also very interested in IP as it relates to marketing and advertising. I know that getting into the entertainment/sports area is difficult as they're both very specific niches, though... That's why I'm worried that my options on where to go for law school are limited. Ack!

Hey AlexanderLO! I've heard good things about Nathan Fox's prep. A few of my friends took his class and they raved about their experience. I've also attended a presentation that he gave at my college on the LSAT and what his course will teach you. One thing of note: he's kind of a no BS kind of guy, he'll give it to you straight/tell it like it is (IMO, WAYYY more useful than prep test companies like Kaplan buttering you up when they're actually completely useless).

All in all, if you have the $ and the time, go for it. Otherwise, 7Sage Ultimate! Best purchase I've made for sure :)

I'm not sure I understand why answer choice C is compatible with the stimulus. Why is gamma interferon considered "the bad guy" when it is attacking something that is bad (the virus)?

Also, why would the presence of it be increased just before and during MS attacks? Is it because during the experiment, gamma interferon was introduced to MS patients and that's why the amounts of it increased?

Not sure if this makes sense, but would love some clarification. I had chosen A first but during BR, something about answer choice C had me all over the place...maybe it was the phrase "cerebrospinal fluid"...

@ WOW. I've never thought of that before! That's a great idea. I rarely change my answers on BR because I can see my reasoning in the answers I crossed out. I will definitely try this and then assess from there. Thanks for your help! :)

Is there enough time?

Hi All!

I've been PTing twice a week now and have been scoring anywhere from 161-166 with a high BR score of only 169. I used to be able to BR well into 175 earlier on in the PT process. I guess I'm just wondering whether there's enough time to push my score into the mid to high 160s by the October test?

I manage to get max 4 wrong in LG and I know that I can keep drilling those to get my accuracy up but what about for LR and RC? Do you recommend going through the 7Sage curriculum again? I have the Trainer and Manhattan LR, which have been somewhat useful but I fear that I'm not utilizing them to the fullest extent. I'm not willing to push to December unless it's really necessary as that would be my last time to take it but I want to break the mid-160s wall as well.

What do you think? Thanks for your help!

Freaking Out with Later PTs!

Hi All,

With the October test fast approaching, I've been doing the PTs in the late 60s (think 65-69). Before that I had done every test from 35-55. While these later PTs been in my normal range for the most part (low to mid 160s), the past couple have been awful (158/159-awful in the sense that my scores haven't been this low in a long time).

I've noticed that while I'm able to take my time and understand the questions in BR (last BR I got a 171), I feel rushed and find myself stumbling through the test under timed conditions. This hadn't been such a major problem in the past and I'm not sure what I can do to remain accurate while also maintaining a good pace. During the last PT I took, I actually got distracted during the end of the RC section and had to rush through the last passage :(

Do you think this is just that the PTs are harder or that I'm psyching myself out by thinking that this is what the October test will be like? Is it burnout? What can I do to make sure my score doesn't stay at this level?

Thanks for your help!

PTing When You Work Full Time

Hi All!

For those who work full-time and study before/after/during (lol) work, I'm curious: How many PTs do you take per week and how do you schedule them?

I've been studying since January, finished the course in about March but have only taken about 10 PTs. I'm only able to take 1/week (usually on a Saturday) because I find myself unable to concentrate after a long day at work. I once took a PT on a Friday after work and my goodness, it was AWFUL.

I'm taking the October test and would really like to manage my time for PTs in the best way possible. Any tips?

Thanks!

@ I started the Ultimate Course in January and finished in the beginning of March. Since then, I have been taking practice tests almost every weekend for the past month. But the last full length that I took prior to this past Saturday was two weeks ago.
