What are my chances? Feeling discouraged :/

Good afternoon (morning, night, whatever time of day is it for anyone reading this)

Been studying for the LSATs for quite some time now and I'm taking my first exam this Feb. My dream and target schools are UGA, Emory, GW, or UC Irvine. Long story short, I screwed up my grades during ugrad due to a family illness and having to work 40+ hours a week while supporting my family and my grades pretty much reflect that. First two(ish) years of ugrad I pretty much screwed up my gpa and finally got my cahoots together two or so years ago. My gpa did have an upward trend from that point on and I was able to raise my gpa almost an entire whole point.

With that being said, I realized I needed to make up for a below 25% gpa with a 75% lsat score. I started out with a 150~ range and I've been able to reach scores of 160-165 pretty consistently now. My goal is to get as close to a 170 as possible. I'm just a little discouraged still and I'm constantly looking at #'s and reports from schools figuring out if I even have a chance of attending the schools I dream of going to.

Never posted a discussion on here but just wanted some advice or tips from those of you who might have had the same scores and gpa as me and have been accepted. For reference, my ugrad gpa is a 2.86.

Thanks guys! :)

I had RC, LR, LR, break, & LG. (in that order)

RC - Indus Valley, Big Bang..and that's all I can remember.

LR - all the q's for these are jumbled but I had one section with Rhesus monkeys, one with building tunnels, and I believe another with the Amazon River. Not sure which one of these were my experimental

LG - mining (super difficult, pretty sure I aced all other games but ended up coming back to this one after skipping and guessing on 2~3 questions.

For Emory I think you'll have a decent chance with 165+, especially with a good GPA addendum. (I'm a *bit of a splitter and got a very generous scholarship from them with a 166)).

Aw that's awesome!! Congrats on your acceptance :)

Low GPA, ~okay~ LSAT.. what are my chances? :/

Hey guys! Hope you guys are having a great week :-) It's so awesome seeing all the admission posts and I've been on reddit/here now for about 2 hrs just reading through them all and feeling super motivated!

I have a pretty low UG GPA and I plan on writing an addendum for this (family illness/work). I recently took my first LSAT and scored a 159. My goal for the September exam is to hit a 165+ which I know I can do if I put in the time.

So question is- what are my chances at UGA/Emory/GA STATE? And I'm also interested in UC IRVINE/DAVIS as well. At times I feel pretty motivated and know I'll eventually end up at the school I'm meant to be at if I put in 110% effort. But then again... at times I feel super discouraged bc of my gpa.

One clarifying: Skipping Q's is okay. But when you circle in the booklet and move on, forget it and focus on the next question is what I mean. Go back when you have time, but dont let that question sit in your head when you have others to do.

I've been trying to think about this a lot but hearing from someone else helps a bunch in reassuring myself. I've been trying to practice how to be more present and realizing I've done all the studying and preparations for this exam as I could have done. My goal isn't a perfect score so after realizing that, I've been better at skipping q's I know I'll prob get wrong anyways and being able to get to all the easier q's I know I can answer right.

Thank you for your kinds words and I'll keep in mind your tips on tomorrow exam :)

I sat for PT 85, and I felt that the LR sections were more difficult than normal. I wouldn't sweat it too much, just make sure you understand the mistakes you made. Build up your confidence the next two days, and good luck on Saturday!

Thank you and appreciate it! Trying not to let this PT get to me since I've done plenty more and have been doing well.

Thank you so much! I will def try that out. I've gotten into the mindset of "if not this test I can still take Jan/March" so if I don't hit my goal score this Sat, that's what I'll be doing until my next exam. After a night of freaking out and collecting myself again I feel much more at ease again haha just going to take today to drill the questions I missed on PT 85 and understand my mistakes.

I've figured out that for me, jumping right into a pt makes me freak out a bit especially at 8:30am so reading some lsat material or going over a few questions in LR or LG helps my brain loosen up a little- this has helped me extremely when it comes to RC. For some reason I can't seem to concentrate as well when RC is the 1st section (may be bc deep down RC is the section that freaks me out the most) lol.

PT 85...oh no

So contrary to popular opinions regarding not taking full PTs right before the exam, I couldn't help myself bc I had bought PT 85 just a few days ago and wanted to take it before I sit for the exam (2nd take) on Saturday. I'm not sure if it was the nerves, the exam itself, or maybe even the fact that I may seem to getting burnt out but I ended up scoring 10 points lower than I usually do for pts (Usually hitting ~165). The 1st section (RC) was super difficult for me as well as the 2nd section (LR) and I ended up falling for many of the trap answers.

Feeling super discouraged and slightly freaking out about this exam and wanted to see if anyone had similar experiences with PT 85? I plan on just BR through this exam all of tomorrow and then taking Friday off before the exam to just watch netflix haha. Trying to tell myself that this Nov exam isn't the end all be all - there's still Jan or even March if need be.

Also, what games do you guys recommend to do right before the actual exam on Sat? One I can take with me to the testing location to do before the exam starts that will get my juices flowing.

How to improve on time constraints?

Taking my first (and most likely not final haha) lsat in Feb which is less than a month away now. I've been having some trouble trying to finish sections under the time constraint. Most of it is me usually having a brain fart while reading and having to re-read over and over again as well as not fully understanding RC passages and having to underline things which takes up so much time. With BR and spending as much time as I can on each section I've been able to get in the 160-165 range but with the timer on I leave about a whole section blank because I'm not able to finish.

The exam is so close and I'm getting super worried and anxious :( I've been trying to take as many timed practice tests as possible but I'm not sure at this point it will help much. Any advice or suggestions?

I totally understand where you're coming from. A few weeks ago I think I was in the same place and I would sleep around 4am and wake up between 11 and 12 feeling totally sluggish and I barely had motivation to study. Here's what helped tremendously:

-Force yourself to wake up around 7/8 am EVERY DAY. (this will naturally make you tired and fall asleep earlier and wake up earlier after a couple of days)

-WHILE DOING THIS, try to do something active like talking a walk or just going out and doing errands. Do something to get out of the house.

-Also, take a break from studying. Whether it's a few days or a week or two take some time to do stuff you enjoy. Hang out with friends, go shopping, stay in and watch movies, etc. Taking some time to recharge is crucial.

Hope this helps :)
