Hi 7Sagers. I'm taking my first attempt in February and I was curious how people handled different instances of things going wrong during the test: things like misreading or missing a rule during a logic game, not having enough time to get to all your LR questions, not understanding an RC passage well, etc?

I'm trying to make a plan for how I would handle things if they go wrong in order to decrease my anxiety so any help would be greatly appreciated!

My section got stopped twice and then my proctor made a mistake so I lost 4 minutes of the section. I am so angry.

You can just access the ProctorU website directly via a google search and make the account/schedule the test that way

Should I retake a 169?

I was PT-ing around a 171-172 but I scored a 169 on the June LSAT. I know crossing the 170 threshold makes a big difference but I'm torn. Please help..

LR Method of Reasoning Study Session

Anyone interested in doing a small group session to discuss the appropriate method of reasoning for certain LR questions? I know I have quite a few that I'm not confident about which one it is. Happy to use my examples as an "agenda" or have each person bring a few examples they'd like to work through.

5 months may seem like a long time to study (I thought I'd only need 6 months when I first started, but I'm still working on it 1.5 years later), but it really isn't.

My advice to you is to get a good tutor if you are able to. It's really helpful to diagnose where your weaknesses are, whether they're foundational or lack of good strategies.

Good luck and keep at it!

I completely understand family pressures but I doubt your mom understands the landscape and what your stats actually mean for you. If I were you, I would spend my energy crafting the best application you possibly can to supplement your incredible score, not on retaking the exam. I'm rooting for you and I know you'll prove your mom wrong very soon!

One very hard lesson I had to learn was it's not how much you study, it's how well you study. Unfortunately, that does require a combination of being 'ruthless' with yourself to an extent, and taking the time to figure out what review methods work for your learning style. The learning is all in the active review in my opinion, which can require a lot of tweaking/trial and error.

Rules of Thumb for LG

I was putting together a list of rules of thumb to remember when answering LG questions and I thought I'd share. I'd love to hear what others use! I typically try to remember the following:

  • take stock of what's left
  • run down the rules
  • scan the answer choices to see if any stand out
  • scan the answer choices for similar patterns

    A little encouragement

I've seen a few discouraged posts on the forum lately..I also had a giant pity party the last three days after taking an LR section and performing so much worse than I should have. I haven't wanted to touch LR since.. heck, I haven't even been interested in celebrating the holidays. Anyways, I was wallowing and wasting time on social media when I saw a post that helped get out of my funk. This isn't anything we haven't heard before but I thought it was well written so I hope it helps some of you as well:

You have given so much to this, and I just hope you know that even here, your work is not in vain. It might take a little longer to arrive where you want to be, but you are still free to take this day by day. Even when you are weary of waiting. Even when you are having to watch others reach the same exact heights you were reaching for, you are not a failure. You are not behind. You will still arrive where you need to be in time. Your story is just going to look a little different. But you will rise anyway. You will find a strength you did not know you had. You will find that even when things did not go according to plan, it did not hinder you from traveling the course. And no matter the additional time it took, it was not too late for you.

PS: if a weird sense of humor is more encouraging to some of you, google "Hope Is Not a Bird, Emily, It's a Sewer Rat". it'll give you a laugh

I just came across PT61 S2 Q18, the barn owls question, and I think it's a great example of practicing these steps to get to the right answer choice when you're not sure what's going on (first getting a good handle on the big picture of the argument and then zooming in on the relevant detail).

    Daily Planner

    Hi All!

I recently made myself a personalized weekly/daily planner to help with my study goals/habits. I'm the kind of person that loves to-do lists, tracking, and crossing things off so I find myself being more successful when using it. Happy to email anyone the template if it might be helpful (PM me your email). I typically just print out the pages at the beginning of every week.

    Questions Similar to PT92 (#23/25)?

    Hi everyone,

I just finished reviewing LR questions for PT92 and I had a really hard time with questions 23 and 25. After reviewing the video explanation, I realized they're phenomenal examples of focusing on the big picture of the stimulus, parsing it out from the details, and also focusing on the cookie-cutter flaws. Can anyone recommend questions that are similar to them that would be good to practice?

    Thank you!

    A Big Thank You

I haven't logged into 7Sage in a while because the application process got hectic but having received my first acceptance, I realized I owe a big thank you to 7Sage, my tutor, and the 7Sage Admissions Consulting team.

I started my LSAT journey feeling like I was doomed to fail (I'm pretty sure I took 35 mins to attempt my first Logic Game). I self-studied for a couple of months and was getting nowhere but when I started using 7Sage, things started to click. 7Sage was instrumental in getting me from 151 to low 160s and then I hit a big plateau. That's when I met @Mike_Ross who identified exactly why I was hitting a block and guided me through overcoming each specific challenge I had. By the end, he became part tutor, part psychologist, and part cheerleader. I don't think I would've gotten the score I did without him!

Then it was time to actually apply. As a first-gen student, I was scared of the process so I signed up for 7Sage consulting and had an amazing team to guide me through each step. Their professionalism and enthusiasm in my journey kept me sane and helped me present the best version of myself to schools.

So thank you! It takes a village and I am a perfect example of that.

you might want to consider delaying by a year to get your score up then. Duke is rather competitive so to get within their LSAT range, I think you'll need more time. Also, I would analyze how you study because 9 hours a day is a lot, you're going to burn out. It sounds cheesy but quality over quantity is crucial when studying.

it depends on what you mean by on and off studying, and how much of the foundation you already have under your belt. if you haven't done much drilling before, 2 months is probably not enough. it takes time to internalize the foundations and then get good enough to execute them consistently and under timed conditions. it also depends on how much of a score increase you're looking to achieve. if you started with a 155 for example and you're looking for a 170, September is not enough time, November is likely too soon as well. but it all depends on the individual and how fast they pick up the right strategies and concepts.

I would agree on not rushing it. I didn't take a diagnostic but I took a post-CC PT and got a 151. I've been studying for a year and a half and, while I've made a lot of improvement, I can't push past my current average because I honestly rushed my foundational phase (so now I'm having to go back and solidify it). Take the time you need to, even if it's longer than you were hoping for. A timeline isn't helpful if it's arbitrary and not serving your potential-versus-progress gap.

I started studying two years ago but naively thought it would take me 6 months max to get it done. Even though I'm 29 already, I actually like that my prior professional experience has nothing to do with the law.. it's made life, and I'd like to think, my own self, more interesting and multi-faceted.

    Regression in LG?

Hello everyone! I was curious if anyone has any thoughts/tips on what I'm experiencing: I did CC for LG using the fool proof method and got to where I was doing the games either on or under the recommended time. Hadn't touched LG the past 1-2 months to focus on RC (plus work got busy). I started doing the CC games again just to test myself (no time restrictions but still timing myself to get an idea of my comfort level) and it's taking almost double the amount of time for each game. Any tips/is this normal due to my hiatus in LG or should I spend more time fool proofing before starting to do PTs? Thank you!

Do you play around with each rule as you're reading? I find that if I don't stop after each one and 'think' about it, I'll be inundated with information and won't be able make the inferences I need quickly.

I agree with the others that LG is the one you should focus on. The most important thing is having a process/plan that you stick to, no matter what the specific game is. watch JY's videos as they're really helpful.

Review is certainly helpful (especially if you were torn on whether to split a game or let the questions guide you) but I find that I learn the most when I play around with each rule right after I read it. Good luck!

one important caveat: sometimes schools will specifically state on their website that they won't answer those types of inquiries. definitely take a look to see if your school is one of them

I think it's worth a shot, worse that can happen is you don't hear back or they say no. Try reaching out to them later when they're less busy. It helps if you have someone specific to email rather than a generic email address. I've reached out to people for advice that I never thought would give me the time of the day and they ended up being super helpful. You never know

I wrote the Friday the 29th date and had two RCs trying to determine which one was scored...Overall, I thought the RCs were easier than I had found the PT's but I could be totally off. Normally I have trouble getting through all 4 passages but on both sets I got through without too much difficulty, LR seemed pretty standard, games were on the more difficult side of PTs I'd found but again none that seemed impossible -- what did other ppl think?

I had two RC sections as well, one with the brainstorming comparative passage and one with the medical ethics comparative passage. I thought the brainstorming one was harder so I hope it's the unscored section

    Clarification for Flex sign-ups

Hi All! Apologies if this has been asked before, but can someone clarify how many dates we have as options for the LSAT Flex for each month? For August, I understand it starts the week of the 14th and you sign up when it opens a week and a half prior to that, but how many days do we have to choose from? Thank you!

Has anyone quit their job to study?

I'm considering quitting my job to focus solely on studying for the August exam and then start applying to new jobs right after. I'm studying 1.5 - 2 hours during the work day but I feel like I still have so much potential left and not much time (been studying since March 2020). The new project I've been assigned is mentally draining and I'm very lucky to have been able to save money over the past few years to be able to afford not working for a few months but I'm worried the stress might make it a counterproductive decision. Has anyone decided to temporarily quit and focus on the exam? If so, did you regret it or was it worth it?

If you've already tried exercise/meditation I would suggest talking to a therapist as well. A good therapist can help you identify the root cause of your anxiety attacks and give you tools to reframe your approach when they occur.

if we file the complaint and select the "cancel score to retake" option, but the dates they provide don't work for us, do we have the option to change our mind and keep the April 30th score? or will that test remain canceled? I want to file my complaint before the time runs out but I'm not sure that I can retake on the dates they have provided

I would wait and see your score before making a choice! I think the Score Preview only counts for first-time test takers (?)...So I would say do both. Wait and see your score. If its good keep it, if not use the score preview/remove it and retake. If you didn't like your score at all, I would maybe study longer (than May) in order to yield better results. The exams are pricey... I would make every one of them count !

thank you for the input! thankfully I had already signed up for June as a backup so I do have that option

Like a lot of people, I had multiple connection issues while testing yesterday. They all happened during the same RC section so I had to re-read each time and then I also lost 4 minutes because of my proctor's mistake. I had two RC sections in my exam so there's a 50% chance that the one I had issues on doesn't count. I feel good about the rest of it and now I don't know whether I should retake it in May or take the gamble and use my first-time preview score on yesterday's exam.

I would be really grateful for any thoughts/advice!

    Confirm action

    Are you sure?
