@ thanks, definitely! I have some strong academic experience on the analytical/theoretical side of things, so I definitely want to stress all of that in my application. When you say people were curious about your theatre degree, do you mean during admissions interviews?

:) you’re welcome! Yeah, so in a couple interviews I was asked to talk about it and I explained how and why studying theatre is an intellectual interest of mine. It helped that I had a senior symposium performance (that tied in both of my majors) that I referenced. I imagine a thesis or capstone performance could serve the same purpose. It looks like you know why you studied what you did, so it sounds like you’ll be fine regarding your music major.

Penultimate PT before the June test. Come join us to review PT 79 and to determine what PT we do next week!

Test tip: don't forget to expect the unexpected.

  • Note: For the purposes of the call, we like to check our group blind review score together at the very end of the call :) So at least don't say ... "No guys, really, it's D, I checked it.” KEEP THE CORRECT ANSWER TO YOURSELF. Win the argument with your reasoning.

I'm a theatre major. I doubled with IR though so idk how much that throws things off, but I do list theatre first.

I've mostly received questions about theatre because fine art majors aren't as commonly law school applicants as humanities or social sciences majors. People have been curious. If you had an academic experience where you were challenged, grew intellectually, performed well in theory/classes requiring writing (not just performance), and you can demonstrate all that to adcoms you should be fine. I think you really have to know exactly how/why your major plays a role within your candidacy for law school, so you don't come across as a scattered and unfocused candidate. I say that because the next step for fine arts majors is typically not law school, so you have to be able to articulate how your major fits into your academic journey and why law school is the logical next step for you. (which I think any major should express in their application somehow)

If you do that^ and have strong numbers, I wouldn't worry too much about a fine arts major---it is memorable.

Lolllll GGU sends SO many emails

New September Study group! First up: PT 60

This group is for 12 people who are committed to studying and improving their test performance for the September 2017 LSAT. The schedule (which we'll go over on Saturday) is tentative and so you will have a say in the PT schedule and future meeting times. Our aim will be to take at least 10 prep tests from the 60s, 70s, and PT 81. I want the group to be able to tailor the study schedule to meet its specific needs. If you want a say about the date and time that we meet, you need to attend the meetings. Workshops and intensives to eliminate weaknesses will also be made available to the study group. We also have the option to build in a few breaks.

    Requirements:

  • For everyone: Must be finished with the core curriculum, have a solid understanding of question types, be able to identify the premises and conclusions, understand conditional logic, etc; Come to each PT review sessions with at least 2 priority questions to discuss (because it is highly unlikely we are scoring 180 under timed conditions)Must attend the first or second meetingMust not miss consecutive meetings. Things come up and so an absence is understandable, but if you routinely miss meetings consecutively, I'll offer your position to the next person who expressed interest.
  • Comment below if you would like me to tag you for our first meeting on July 1st at 5pm EST. We'll be taking care the schedule first, so even if you can't take PT 60 come get your name on the list and then you can head out.

@ I don't wanna state more than what's allowed, but my approach to understanding was considering what did the population start at to begin with???

Yeah for sure, I’m steering clear of q types and “I think the answer is” kind of statements. My approach was focused more on why did the population stay (meaning not go away or decrease) provided a condition that I thought they weren’t supposed to like is it present. Idk if that’s too specific but there’s no QT. If you could give any more clues within the rules I’d know.

was the one with a coal burning plant experimental? that whole section was weird for me. not sure why..

I had 3 LRs and yeah I’m like 89% sure (if this question is in the section I’m thinking it is in) that there were a couple question/stimuli that I’ve seen before—not necessarily same QT but at least 2 arguments seemed way too familiar and it was weird. Which makes me wonder (tangent 🚨) since LSAT is going digital and increasing the number of test released each year, and the often higher number of undisclosed winter test takers (compared to say June), are LSAC psychometricians using an experimental section (on this undisclosed test) to in part measure average response to to previously published arguments? I’m very certain I’ve seen a few repeated arguments in1 section before.

Yup I remember that question VERY well. It was about the notion of porpoise population decrease, and human activity/noise in a harbor or channel or something.

I did my interview last year. It was almost midnight in China and the internet connection wasn't great... so we actually turned off the video. So they are pretty accommodating and nice.

Raphael summarized the questions nicely. The questions they asked me were just normal. My advice would be to think about what you want to ask them. My interviewer just graduated from HLS not very long ago, so we talked a lot about her time at HLS, which was great.

Good luck and hope to see you on campus in August!

Yeah, I agree with this. Know what you want to ask about HLS. It’s also best to know your application really well. I had an HLS interview last week and it really was a fun conversation. I was asked about my work at specific places after undergrad and then my other community activities. I was asked how I got involved and the challenges associate with each. Besides knowing your application and what you would do if admitted, focus on trying to have a good conversation. They aren’t “standard interviews” with scripted questions. Know how different experiences you’ve had contribute to what you want to do and why. Practice articulating things like that if you haven’t before. From talking to different people who have interviewed there, it seems like their admissions team truly is trying to get a full sense of what kind of person and student you are and what you would bring to the next class. You got this!

    June Study Group PT 80

This week it's crucial for you to read this post and check the calendar and link to JY's review of PT 80.

Please do not burn PT 80 if you are not going to take the June test and if you have not been PTing at a level that you want to test at. We will be reviewing advanced material so you need to understand and have a good grasp on the fundamentals if you're going to be reviewing PT 80. Take the school at the top of your list and write a killer LOCI. If I get waitlisted everywhere, I’m going to send LOCIs to my top 3. Are there ways you could market yourself as a more attractive candidate without changing the theme of your application? Have you been promoted at work, have any new accomplishments, or started any new community service activities since you’ve applied? Check out the profiles of classes, visit, and reach out to people at your top law school—if you haven’t already. Try to specific areas of that school that you identify with. Include that stuff in your LOCI.

Hi! Just be sure to briefly make the link between his verbal harassment of you, the actions you took to resolve it, and what the school did as crystal clear as possible. Note where on your transcript the incident directly impacted your grades. Otherwise, yeah end on a positive note about your improved gpa and skills gained that will help you in law school.

*Because there are too many September study groups in GTM and I don't want to mix them up, this group will now be known as the That's So Ravenclaw SG. I know a lot of us are fans of the Harry Potter series. In our LSAT prep (and our career aspirations in general) it would help to aspire to obtain the qualities of this house, such as cultivating a lifelong love of learning.

Regarding the "That's so Raven" part. Generally, it could also help to take some risks (calculated risks haha) and be bold like:

Hmm I’m not sure “yet” functions much differently than “although” in this stimulus. The only crucial difference I see is that “yet” indicates a stipulation/concession of a continuous nature—meaning it’s connected to an idea that precedes it (example “but”). I think it could help to note that both of those sentences start off with a stipulation, but I don’t think we must dig in on those words much more than that to get to the MP. I hope that helps!

Yeah you have to force yourself to go through the process of why you are saying a certain answer is the right one. Also go about finding out exactly why the other ACs are wrong.

I agree, you should definitely take a PT to see where you are at. It would suck to find out you wasted time working on concepts you are pretty solid on and not addressing your biggest weaknesses. If you know for sure there are concepts or question types you are shaky on, it wouldn’t hurt to assess your approach to the stimulus and ACs and then drill a few questions. If there isn’t anything that stands out though or you aren’t sure if you have such issues then take an early PT. I hope your prep it goes well!
