Can someone please explain the stimulus here? I was lost reading this tbh.

How are we supposed to assume that the driver in answer choice (B) is overhearing only one part of the convo? I feel like the stimulus made it clear that you need to be overhearing only one side of the convo and B doesn't really present such a scenario.
