Haha I get it, well as long as there’s no numerical categorization then I’m not worried! I definitely feel it has contributed to who I am and am thankful for it. Thanks for your comment @

Race categorization question

Hi, I was just wondering, as I am of American Indian descent, but solely four generations ago... I don’t want them to think I’m faking or something and I don’t look of Native Indian descent, but can I still put it in my race category as well as white/European?

When are you not allowed to anymore?

Any tips on attitude questions in RC?

Hey guys, I noticed I often have trouble deciphering the tones of the author or different groups in the texts, and have no idea how to improve this. Is it just exposure? Does anyone have tips to improve this? My RC SUCKS sometimes and it’s very discouraging.

You can do this @! Is there a way to cut down on work? Before I also tried to study while working looong hours, but it’s much more difficult to be on your top if your mind is tired and used. Your mind is not inexhaustible at all. It can be overworked. Good sleep, less mind clutter (cutting out things that way on your mind at all), will make it much easier. Also, be thorough, don’t just half watch the videos or half take notes. You have to be 100% there when you study and be methodical and record your progress. Those are mistakes I made in the beginning.

Hi @ I always get drastically lower scores when I’m stressed or tired (like today... 156 when I usually score around 162- devastating still). You can do this. I used to get those scores and now I stepped back and eliminated all the crap out of my life that was taking out of my mind energy. I think that’s important. If you understand the concepts well then it’s mostly about the nerves and the confidence I think. Make sure you have a cut off time where you say “you’ve done enough hours” take a break and do something totally different for the rest of the day without thinking about it. Also make sure you’re getting like 8 hours of sleep, at least that’s important for me. Taking time in nature is also a mind saver.

Thanks @! By in the 160s, do you mean possibly above 164, or highest probably should be 164?

Choosing the right course

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to 7Sage, (a friend who went to T14 law school referred me) and I'm wondering which course is most worth it for me. I started studying for the LSAT last July, and took the December test even though I knew I wouldn't score high... regret. I had first paid for an expensive online course called Blueprint cause it looked light and doable... it was close to useless. Recently since January I got the powerscore books, just finished and have seen a lot of improvement (though my attitude has also changed about the whole test as well, which may have helped quite a bit). So, since I'm not a beginner, is the Starter course not worth it? I already have all of the preptests, I just want to perfect my skills and get more tips, cause I need to get high 160s or 170s. I usually score high 150s or low 160s on my PTs. Also, I saw the starter course has tests 35-44 but I already did 3 of them... so what do you guys think and did the extra stuff in the other courses give you the extra boost or was the core curriculum enough?

I'm supporting myself right now, and quite low on funds, but if I'm sure that it will do the trick I'm willing to invest...

Thanks so much @-- super sound advice, I will try to get in some 5 section tests anyway just for practice, but not stress too much about it.

You're right about the notating part, I think I'm the same way as you because last two RCs I did I tried that method of just writing a few words by each paragraph and not furiously trying to categorize and mark up accordingly, I did so much better. I feel like going through it faster keeps your short term memory fresher to go into the questions too.

As for LR I will definitely try that! Thanks a lot for the tips. By the way do you have any tips about coming back to questions? Do you manage to get back to them? for me I never seem to do much on them after even if I skip 5, maybe it stresses me out too much to stop and flip back through the pages when the timer is on.

For LG I need a lot of work too, since I usually miss at least half the last game. The fool proofing method just seems to take a lot of time that I'm not sure I have!

Also heard that you lose your progress if you don't practice test at least twice a week, would anyone have experience with that?

I want to focus on LG a lot without losing my progress in the other sections- esp LR

I'd like to know this too :)

Hi fellow 7sagers, I'm currently scoring low 160s and I really desperately want to get into the 170s, have been working at this for around 9 months, and I'm just worried I still won't be able to make it by June 23rd. (that's my date since I'm taking it in France) I usually don't finish the LGs on time but the ones I do -0 or max -2. LR I usually miss 3 with timing even though I get around -5 including the missed ones usually, and RC it depends, when I'm focused I almost finish and when it's difficult one is left and that really hits my score. I have all the PTs I just don't know what to do right now, maybe focusing on LGs would help the most? How do I improve my RC and LR timing?? My focus could be the main problem, it's so difficult to keep it consistently!

Also do you guys think doing 5 sections is really important to prepare for the final test or doing 4 sections is good enough and the extra adrenaline should make up for the 5th one...? I took the Dec test and didn't have too much trouble focusing, but was faaar from my goal score so I dunno.

Also anybody else taken it abroad? anything scary I should know about?

@ I kind of went into the test thinking yeah of course I can do this I'm just gonna study when I can for three months or something... then got smashed and disappointed so I really just took a step back, encouraged myself that it is much more difficult than I thought and all and just had to empty myself of a lot of worries and the way-too-many things I was trying to do at once (internship, part time job and studying :P), take more time in nature and for myself and focus the rest of my time on studying faithfully every day, starting in the morning and making it my priority. I give classes in the evenings to support myself.

American with international education

I'm an American citizen but also French and I've lived for 6 years in China- studied there a year and a half and got my bachelor's in France. Also was homeschooled...

So first, how do law schools view foreign educated people?

I got 164 LSAT on 3rd try but my foreign degree from France is supposedly only B level even though they are thought of as good scores in France, and my addendum will be that I actually didn't even speak French when I started the bachelors lol.

I got my transcripts evaluation back only a month ago and it says the studies I've done are not equal to an American bachelor's degree... does that mean I should throw all I've done out the window? Will no top law schools accept that?

Also how much will my international/weird background help me out? or not??

I just don't know where I should apply realistically. I've heard law schools don't really care about foreign GPAs because they don't need to report them.

Thanks a lot for the help >.((/p)

Is it just me or are RC passages waaayyy easier in the newer PTs than in the older ones... I’ve been exclusively doing old RC but for this PT I felt like for once they were speaking to me in my native language...

On question 1, the reason I eliminated B was because of "trends in modern art"... wheeeere did that come from... also it says "an" innovative style, where there were numerous ones... sigh... when it comes to weighing which answer choices are more wrong, I just never know which to choose.

Thanks a lot for your answer, so encouraging! This definitely gives me some ideas of what I can do. How did you drill RC when you did time?

Also, could you suggest any tutors to me? I’m looking for one at the moment. Feel free to private message.

RC improvement success stories?

Hey guys,

RC is a section I consistently have trouble with. A lot people say it’s the most difficult section to improve in although there is debate on that. I really need to see more progress myself and was thinking it would be AMAZING to hear from some of you ppl about an initial difficulty in this section followed by a very significant improvement and what made the difference. Also for the sake of others here with my same difficulty of course! Only a bit more than a week for me before the big test and it would be a dream come true to even have a mini breakthrough.

I just couldn't wrap around how you can only cover basic material, but in depth. Didn't get what that would look like- which is why I didn't see D. But still, it seems contradictory.

The conclusion is that this book has had MUCH influence on a GREAT number of readers. So we could weaken it by saying that it doesn't have much influence on the readers, OR that its actually not a great number of readers right?

If so then C would help, because it shows whether it was a great number of readers (maybe there are like 10 million) or not. Is it wrong only because the more pressing issue is if it was influential on anyone, and that's what the premises go on to prove? Or am I just wrong about the second issue?

@ said:

I feel like I understand. I talk out the stimulus and answer choices to myself and I feel okay

I think that's your problem here. You're not ready to go into the test if you're reviewing answers based on it feeling right and how it sounds to you. You should be able to write out a foolproof argument for why the right answer choice is right and why the wrong answer choices are wrong. I felt like this last year when I studied, like, I think about it, I read over it, I watch the videos. I get it, this makes sense, and I would move on. That thinking doesnt work for the lsat.

Hi @ I was wondering if you think it’s super important to actually write it down. I started doing that before and ending up stopping because sometimes I would write down things guessing (since it’s BR) and sort of solidify wrong things after, or sometimes I just wasn’t sure no matter how long I stared at it if it was contingent on something I just plain didn’t know. Now I just write some notes if I feel I need it on my PT and sometimes write them in a notepad after. I just can’t bring myself to explain why each is wrong, I feel like it’s a waste of time since it’s usually quite clear why in my head anyway. How do you see it? How do you avoid this?

User Avatar

Totally right @, i did the same thing, and I couldn’t have said it better. In my case I was interning in China, part time teaching, taking other courses, and studying for the LSAT. When I came back I cut out all my worries and did some hard core self-comforting after my (failed) LSAT of last year December, and cutting out a ton of mental clutter was crucial for me to focus and keep going and not be discouraged. My motto after was “one thing at a time, well”. But this is because it’s already been a year of studying for me and I really wanted to hurry up to make it in time for this year. I’ve improved 8 points since March, and still could have a way to go, we’ll see how the June test goes.

Of course, if you can’t cut out, don’t be afraid that it takes more time, it’s not the end of the world, I dunno what your concerns are, but prolonging really isn’t usually a problem. Have patience.

Just remember to keep it up and when you don’t want to just tell yourself you’ll do “a little” studying (for ex 1 RC, or 2 games) and see how much you can muster after that. It’s usually enough to get me in the mood, and at worst, if you’re doing a little every day, you are actually progressing, no matter how slow.

I’d also suggest keeping the LSAT to the morning when your mind is in best shape. And self compassion, be nice to yourself when you are naughty (lol), but kick yourself in the ass to do more. Recognize when you start “frying” and take a step back, or realize that you’re slacking and give yourself a push, it’s a difficult balance.

Thanks for your advice and taking the time to reply @!

Yeah, I kind of knew I should probably be doing that with RC but since it was such a pain... lol I guess you also don't see the results of all of that as quickly as compared to LR where it seems more black and white.

Gonna see how things go with this!

Well kudos to you on your test score! I hope you can get into the 170s, and congrats on how far you've come- I hope to hit 170s in just a month and a half. seems a bit out of reach, but I guess one step at a time >.((/p)

Score conversion (France)

So, I went to French university, and they are score snobs, meaning 20 is the highest score but no one ever ever gets it. Best possible score I've ever seen is 18 but the best is usually 16 or worse if you're in an "elite school". So my average is really low compared to 99% of other American applicants and also not in the top for a normal student in France because I didn't speak the language when I started. I did the google conversion and it puts my scores as Bs or worst Cs.... I heard before that they won't put too much importance in it since it's a foreign GPA but I realize I might want to be a bit more worried about this... Does anyone have experience with foreign GPAs? I wanna get into T14... I could probably add into my statement that it was due to language difficulty, right? But I have no idea how much they will forgive me for that.

I also went to a university in China for a year and a half before french uni and do have mostly straight As from the conversion, but I don't know if that will actually help that much?

@ Yeah, for LR I usually do the same thing as you I think. I just have to pick up the speed, because recently (before it wasn't usually like that) always end up short on time.

And yes on LG I don't have enough time to finish the last half of the game usually, but the ones I do I get all right or maybe -1. I guess I could just need more practice?

You're right, full-timed PTing is exhausting... do you count the scores from your timed sections taken together for any given exam then?

One problem I have in BRing is knowing which questions to go back to in LR since I often don't have the time or mind to circle the ones I'm not sure about during the time. I don't want to waste time and it definitely takes a lot of patience to review more than ten. I usually just look over the 10 last problems, and circled one here and there. but I usually just write a couple notes next to the question in the test with a different color pen, not on a notepad or anything.

Also I have no idea how to BR RC, JY didn't seem to mention too many specifics about it either, so... I usually just look at which ones were wrong and look for it in the passage or something. My results are so random in RC... sometimes it's great and sometimes it's reeeeally bad.

Are you aiming for 170s? Did you have a major score difference in your regular testing and the actual exam you took?

Confirm action

Are you sure?
