#help #admin why can I not see the stimulus and questions in the explanation video?
The stimulus is saying: Conclusion= Beauty Is Objective . Why? Premise=When we compare beauty standards of past cultures to our own beauty standards, we see similarity. This is the author's reasoning for why beauty is Objective (fact, beauty is the same all around). The premise does not support the conclusion. Answer choice C says, well no actually, standard of beauty is Subjective! because we were "strongly influenced" by past cultures standards. Objectivity would require no influence or exposure to past cultures standard of beauty.
Had a hard time with this one even after watching the explanation. I had to look up the difference between subjective and objective. Subjective means to be influenced by personal feelings or opinions: not fact. Objective is the opposite, not influenced by personal feelings or opinions: is indeed a fact. The author here is saying that beauty standards are objective and that if we pull early works that were once considered beautiful in other cultures then we would find similar standards of beauty in our current time. Is this fact? Not even a strong premise. We need to weaken this by showing that the premise is actually subjective! Answer C has two key words "strongly influenced". Take a look at our definitions. Answer C has to be true! Through exposure of past beauty standards, we are strongly influenced in our current beliefs of what is beautiful!
