I had the same problem. The critics did call them unprofessional, but meaning that they were being bad sports. The coach misinterpreted the word unprofessional to mean literally "not-professional" which then he refuted by claiming they act like actual professional players. So he didn't mishear them, he misinterpreted what the critics meant by the claim

I think the fact is that we do not know if it is in the little information though, therefore we can't apply the rules based on something we don't know. The principle states that we need to apply three different conditions to say that he committed fraud, and we can't do that if we do not know.
