Timing Drills for RC

I'm consistently spending too much time reading the passages. I'm pretty confident when going through the questions and I answer them quickly, but my timing issues while reading/sketching the structural outline of the passage foreclose my opportunity to reach the fourth passage, which forces me to guess on all the questions on the final passage. I only refer back to the passage for questions referencing specific line numbers, and my structural outline is normally around 3-7 words per paragraph (sometimes a few more depending on subparagraph breaks).

What sort of drills can I do to cut down my reading time?

@alexiaantonellab26929 My center allowed water, but I left mine in my locker until the 10 minute break. Just remember that it has to be in a clear container without a label. Mine was just a plastic disposable bottle, which fit fine in the locker. I brought foam ear plugs (which were inspected), a banana (left it in my locker until the break), and a cardigan in case it was cold (didn’t even use it-left it in my locker). Finally, I brought pens (stored them in my locker), but they had me use pencils instead. The erasers were junk, but everything else was great. I’d definitely recommend my testing center.

@toddmhonas193 My computer at my Prometric center just had a Windows operating system, and my test screen was already on the LSAC login. All I had to do was type in my username and password. Hopefully that assuages some of your concerns!

I am currently registered for Friday, June 9. Does anyone know how I would change my administration to Saturday, June 10? After clicking on the LSAT Status tab in LSAC, it will not allow me to select June 2023 to change it from Friday to Saturday because I am already registered. It seems like I have to completely unregister for the June LSAT and then reregister. #help

Edit: Resolved! I thought I'd chosen June 9, but all registrations are just for June generally. The actual date and time email will come later in May.

Hi! I tried to register, but the webinar Zoom page says, “This webinar is for authorized registrants only. Please enter another email address.” I entered the same email I use for 7Sage. Could someone let me know what I’m missing? Thank you! #help

Edit: Resolved!

Hi, @maddy123. I chose A too, and I hope this helps you realize why E is correct.

In the stimulus, it reads, "... the press agent did not tell every reporter everything about the accident."

This means that the press agent could have told reporter A 20%, reporter B 40%, reporter C 5%, etc.

Moving to the answer choices, AC A simply restates what we already know from the stimulus in slightly different words. Here's a side-by-side comparison.

Stimulus: The press agent did not tell every reporter everything about the accident.

A) the press agent did not tell everything about the accident to any reporter.

From this, all we know is that the press agent could tell different reporters different amounts of information. By choosing AC A, we are still leaving the door open for reporters can scoop other reporters if they have more information than others.

I misread A, mistaking "everything" for "anything."

AC E reads, "No reporter knows any more about the accident than any other reporter."

This AC restates the stimulus. The stimulus says, "If no reporter knows any more about the accident than any other reporter, then no reporter can scoop all of the other reporters."

1) If no ones knows more than someone else, 2) no one scoops the others.

Here, 1) is the sufficient condition. E just repeats the sufficient condition to disprove the author's argument. If we know that no one knows more than someone else, we can conclude the necessary condition from the stimulus: no reporter can scoop the others.

Hope this helps!

In this instance, I think it would be helpful to think of what "nothing more than" means in plain language. We could probably agree that "nothing more than" is equivalent to saying "just." If we substitute "just" for "nothing more than," we get:

"... keeping an agreement is just an act of securing mutual benefit."

If we use "just" in this context, we mean it is what it is. So you could even read the sentence as:

"... keeping an agreement is an act of securing mutual benefit."

In other words, if you keep an agreement, you secure mutual benefit.

(logical indicator: if)

If we diagram this simplified sentence, we get

KA → SMB

Note: you can do this without doing all the conversions from "just" to "is"-- I just wrote out several ways in case one of them works best for you. Hope this helps!

I really like JY’s inserted variable scenario here with the number of eggs laid.

If box-laying ducks simply lay more eggs, then we can’t conclusively say that there’s a size differential between the natural nests and box nests. The size of the nests could be the exact same, but there could be some sort of psychological change that influences the duck’s laying patterns when laying them in a box versus a nest.

When I’m eliminating choices, I try to ask, “Do I really know that?” I try to test it quickly by introducing a “wild card” explanation or variable like “maybe x happened instead.” Of course, this doesn’t work in every scenario but it’s helped me more than it’s hurt me.

D also gets to the core of the issue: why nesting ducks invade other nests. They squat in these boxes because they’re so visible, something that happens only rarely in naturally occurring nests that are well hidden. Conclusion is basically this: if it’s visible, it’s up for the taking. You could rephrase it as, “Because these nests are so visible, wood ducks are enticed to lay their eggs in already occupied nesting boxes.” Alleviating this visibility problem could, based on the information presented, possibly reduce the frequency at which these nesting ducks commandeer the box ducks’ nesting grounds.

Please tag me if you notice an error in this explanation, especially if I’m making a huge leap. Hope this helps!

I’m currently watching this video after completing one of the Weakening Questions Practice Sets (8?). I think I’m noticing a pattern, but someone please correct me if I’m taking a wrong turn. It seems like the ACs with soft qualifiers (“some” birds) are seldom the correct AC for weakening/strengthening questions. Am I right to be wary of these?
